IF you are interested, I have 9 free shader presets for iRay skin (skin, not character presets) in the freebie section of the Daz forums. I'm not an expert but you can copy my settings and modify as your wish.
I don't have time to read through 43 pages to see if this has already been posted, so please be patient if you have already seen this.
I want to be able to READ the words in the user interface without pressing my nose up against the screen! ! ! ! They are so tiny that I'm throwing my neck out of whack as I lean forward to squint at them. I'm being very serious - I have a neck injury that causes me grief if I lean forward too long.
It's being worked on, according to the change log.
I still would like to be able to have the character drop to floor and actually have it happen not to float above the floor. Perhaps we can designate the floor surface?
Would like to disable daz connect and smart content.
Upgrade for 3delight surfaces and shaders.
Close the Smart Content pane and don't log in.
Hotkey click and drag to make instant copies of objects.
A display feature that temp turns all objects into simple boxes,
This will allow the artist to quickly manipulate various elements in the scene without

the artist to quickly see the effects of various light sources on the scene
as it shines on the boxes.
with one button, be able to unwrap the skin off an object as a flat map
and export it directly to the PS/paint program of your choice, then when done the
engine will return the now modified skin
that will do
Add another vote for Physics/Dynamics here....
Do you mean for an Iray or 3DL interactive preview? You could switch the viewport mode to solid bounding box, or in the Draw Settings pane change Manipulation Draw Style to solid bounding box if you want it to switch whenever you're moving things.
Ditto ditto. Iray is fine. 3Delight does toons, and I've gotten quite good at them. I use them for work. Iray not so much.
Not to lose the use of my "other merchant" files. I use old ones, a lot of old ones, like NearMe and AnimeDoll. I am still stuck on using Genesis 1. I use cr2's like nuts. I like being able to INSTALL things *myself*.
Better dynamic options. I don't use them a lot, but this is mostly because the options and ability are so limited I have little reason to bother.
No requirement of DAZ Connect. No. Really. This whole "it only needs to connect once" stuff is for the birds. I don't want my DAZ computer on the internet. Ever. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops like this to get content I purchase. I bought it. I shouldn't need permission to use it after I've been a good girl and shelled out money. With the addition of this DAZ Connect situation and the fact that some objects I have gotten require it, I'm getting very leery of buying from the DAZ store. I'm scowering the listings to make sure I can do manual install if I so desire or at least use the install manager if I really really have to. (Done by moving objects from one hard drive to another after install.) But this "you gotta log in the good ol' Adobe way" is a serious discouragement device. I don't liiiike it. I won't do it. This is my two cents on that matter after having given things an honest try. Telling me not to login is not a solution.
I see a lot of requests for better smart content. I'm sure they're there for the same reasons why we hatess it, Baggins. Hates it. I don't want to lose my ability to rename folders, drag and drop, and set up my content library my way. Trust me. How I think and how I set things up is nowhere near how "smart" content thinks it should be. I've only tried to use smart content 2 times. Couldn't find anything. Went back to my way. In fact, I literally need my way in order to function in DAZ or things will break for me and I shall be unhappy and hates it.
I also hates looking for a little object in a big scene. Is there a better way? Cries.
I adulted today. I did it and I hates it. I am now going to go do dishes, even though I hates it.
Okay, this is useful info. Does this work in 4.8 or is it new to 4.9?
You DO NOT have to log in to use DS 4.9, that is only necessary if you are installing content with Connect.
I would like a tag-based smart content system to make searching easier.
Just... click an item, add a tag, done.
I find the existing categorization and 'smart content' really obnoxious and fiddly.
Agreed. And the ability to create a custom tag, such as my own character name. Yeah, I know there's something like that now, but it's not easy.
Theer is the Tags page at the bottom of the Smart Content pane.
How do I search for all items that have a given tag?
I mean, I add 'Dynamic' as a tag to an outfit.
I then do a search for Dynamic in Smart Content. It doesn't show up.
I then do a search for Dynamic in Content Library. It doesn't show up.
That's... not helpful
Probably already said but I want my blue bars back that show me where my new content is when I install it. (yes, I know i can use Smart content but, I don't like it. And it just throws the whole lot up it doesn't separate them into tidy categories like scene files, prop, cameras, materials, Iray mats, 3delight mats. I have to sort through the jumpled up list to move things to my own categories) and when it does that especially materials, it doesn't say if they are iray or 3delight even when the item has both so I have no idea what's what.
I thought I read they are working on restoring that for a 4.9 patch. Maybe I'm not remembering that correctly.
One thing I would like, and haven't yet figured out how to replicate yet in Studio, are cameras that function as well as Poser's when parented to and pointed at something (like Poser's default face camera). I do create cameras in Studio and parent them and point them at what I want to stay in frame, but it just doesn't seem to work so well when I move the camera. The camera tends to move in unintuitive and inconvenient ways when I do this rather than staying focused on the center point of the parented/pointed at component.
Are you sure the tag is being added? I can search for, for example, Real World and get all the items tagged with that (or I can just click the tag to filter an existing list of files).
Yep. Just selected it again, and the tag is there.
Do a search, bupkis.
Maybe the item needs to be categorized or something?
I opened up the item with Content DB editor, the tag wasn't there. Added the tag. Applied, closed it. Nope, still doesn't work.
For reference, the item is Michael 4 Jogging pants Dynamic outfit from Optitex freebies. It's one of many items I'd love to be able to just search for, rather than having to remember where in the My Daz3D library it is and have to go hunting every time.
...+1 to spearcarrier's comment on Connect as I have my own custom setups and do go online to use the DIM and upload finished pics.
That would be awesome.
Personally, that is not the same.

+1
This made me smile; a nice amusing post, but managed to say what I have said frequently, and continue to feel.
This march I won't be buying as much as I would like.
DRM is why - I'm showing my opinion of it existing. I will buy the odd item, obviously they will not be connect only.
Why am I talking about DRM?
Well I hope it is gone by 5.0 or 4.10.
Tell my copy of DAZ that. For a while it was insisting I had to log in to restore some missing parameter. Also, the biggest point is I won't be installing anything with Connect.
Dittos, my precious. Hopefully the rumor of the fix with the next update is true.
Just thought of another wish, one I think would be useful for everyone. An autobalance tool like Poser has. I just recently went back to poser (it was on sale, ONE SALE TO RULE THEM ALL) for their fitting room and was reminded - oh yeah! Autobalance. I seem to think Daz used to have it? But I'm old and hates it and probably have a muddy memory. At any rate, mcasual has a script for the generation 3 models to find center of mass. I'm greedy and wants more. Gives me my precious.
Thank you everyone for the +1's. VIVA LA REVOLUTION!!!!!!!!!
...
DAZ is stupid fat hobbit.
I'd like to see additional options among the Create Primitives tabs. The ability to concave and convex a disc, or create a hemispherical object, so creating a dome is possible. The ability to have the Snap together and lock in place would be handy too. The ability to make them merge into a single, solid item to make adding a texture file easier would also be great. Which can then be sectioned off into grouped areas, i.e. sword blade, sword handle, sword runes etc.
Location Node - not sure if this one exists, but an orb or somethign that allows you to set it in place, and have the item you wish to place load in that spot, rather than in the centre of the screen. Is this already a thing I don't know about yet?
I'd like it if I set opacity to 0% or turn off visibility of a node that the geometry would no longer be uploaded to the video card for rendering. iRay still renders it until it realizes it's not really there. I'd like it to not affect the zoom to floor operation or any collision or smoothing operation. I'd like a "Save incremental" where it adds a number to the scene file. I'd like HD morphs for at least the next two subdivision levels. Models under 30K polygons is really low detail nowadays.
Multi-item collision and smoothing would be nice.
Ability to completely disable Connect.
Version control like 'git' would be nice where you can set up a project and you can publish a new version of your scene and/or restore a previous version. Also the ability to just load a previous version without affecting the project. Checking in a change should handle a comment (since git handles this). Ability to branch (or clone) a project but keep the same history. Ability to merge conflict-free changes from one branch to another. This allows multi-user updates to the same scene as long as they work on different parts. Basically, they can branch off the scene, work on it for a bit, then merge their changes back in. Ability to produce 'diff's that can be emailed or sent to other people. This functionality is already available in 'git'. Just need an easy way to save these files (actually, git can handle online push requests too). In fact, most of the functionality is available in 'git'. Having it in DAZ Studio would be awesome. This is basically a history and backup system that also supports multi-user editing.
Hmmm... this last one sounds like a cool add-on. If only I had time, I could probably build it myself.
You can Alt-drag anything from the content pane into the viewport, and it will be placed wherever you let go of the mouse button.
Note - While I'm on the subject, remember you can also drag material and shader presets onto objects.
It's probably saying your configuration has changed (the non-beta is fussy, the beta has an update that resolves that - or at least seems to). If you ignore it all it means if you can't use encrypted content, so if you are sticking with DIM it doesn't matter.
