I'm going to reread this thread for odd reasons:
need to refresh my memory after having been away for almost a year
find tips from 'who says Daz Studio can't do this? Here's how you do it' tips
I would like to re re iterate a way to find new content in the content pane (not smart content, I don't use it and probably never will, it never finds my new content anyway) and typing in the "new whatever" in the search bar only works about 25% of the time. The blue bars worked perfectly for me, something along those lines so I can actually find my new content would be fantastic. I literally spend an hour or two trying to find my new content when I buy more than one or two things at a time because I have so much stuff. And yes, I can go to products but it mashes all of it together and doesn't separate it into the categories the vendor has it in which makes some things impossible to categorize (the godgrays product for example -sub folder after sub folder - impossilbe to figure out what goes where via porducts)
Soft/Rigid body physics (still want)
Organic primitives / IsoSurfaces (still want)
Non-Linear morphing
Wait.....I'm already working on making plugins for all of these for DS......
Nevermind.
(Seriously, I'd rather DAZ put those in, but they're too busy trying to fix all the problems Connect caused.......)
My 4 items for my wish list on daz 5
1) A native dynamic cloth and hair systems thats is built in as part of daz (not as a plugin) that supports third party dynamic clothing items
2) fix or update the IK problems. & the SSS maps issues with AOA lights.
3)Update animation support. with a Floor pinning tool & Bullets, soft tissue, & Particle physics.
4) last thing. give us the ability to add movie or avi files as a back ground within daz studio.
As they say if your gunna wish, it cost nothing more to wish big :)
One feature Daz studio 5 Desparately needs is better scene managment tools
I know it is used for single figure portraits by many but honestly, as a user of Maxon Cinmea4D for my Daz content renders, I can not imagine how people navigate a scene with a couple of characters in a large stonemason set for example.
A) a user customizable heads up Display or "HUD"
this allows you to simply drag an item from the scene tab
onto to viewport giving you the ability select it by name in the viewport without returning to the scene tab repeatedly to make selections.( see attached pic)
B) A separate Layer manger with ability to assign scene item to color coded layers that can toggle on/off the item visibilty in the viewport and final render.
this is crucial for dense scenes where you want to render element in separate passe to comp them later in post
( see attached pic).
C) EXCLUSIVE/INCLUSIVE LIGHT RELATIONSHIPS
The abilty to resrict what scene item will receive light from any particular light while excluding all others
Great for subtle face fills on hooded figures for example.
What I want more than anything else is a reliable way to sort and categorise my content so that I know where it all is. There's a lot less point in the software having cutting edge features if you're limited to using the same group of assets with it most of the time because you can never find where everything else is.
A way to create a camera that is locked in the XYZ axis and rotations by default.
A way to make pose choices default to loading with the XYZ moves disabled and limits off.
A fix for the rotate XYZ settings so that when you rotate an object in one plane, the other two are still functional.
A way to rename characters in the Scene tab so that they are not Genesis (1), Genesis (2), etc.
If there are already ways to do these, I haven't found them. Which brings me to:
A manual that I can download and read. Tutorials and videos are nice, but to have all of the information in one place where I could find it in a Table of Contents without having to scan a video to find the 20-second part that I need or use that miserable forum search would be nicer. With the ability to print out relevant pages and tape them to my wall for easy reference.
I would pay for a comprehensive PDF manual. My opening bid is $49.95.
At the risk of repeating myself (and since the subject has come to life again):
1. A Blender Bridge,
2. Mutliple collision selection, i.e. being able to say that a skirt will collide with hips and legs and also underwear.
I'll add this:
A way to "change parent" for more than one item at a time. Sometimes I want multiple items to move together, and parenting them individually to one main item can be pretty tedious. For example, if I want all of my characters to load in a certain place, I have to parent everything in the scene to the ground and then move the ground so that the place that I want to load them is at the center, which can take a lot of time.
Probably already mentioned, but i think ability to send characters/objects to zbrush in HD via GoZ and sculpt in HD and bring them back in HD is needed. Or failing that, the ability to do it via the morph loader. For me, this is the only thing that Poser has over DS
Right click on the name in the Scene tab, select Rename from the dropdown menu.
Alternatively, click twice to directly select the name for changing. Note, not a fast double-click, that's "open to see sub-parts" — click, pause a second, then click again. Exactly the same way as you'd do it in a Windows Explorer window.
Note that the object name in the Parameter tab doesn't immediately show a name change, you must select something else, then re-select your renamed object to see the change.
Oh Daz can put these in of course! But why have only one fluid sim when we can have 37 !??
Some things = the more the merrier! DS scripts especially!
One script for big oceanic tsuami water, another for small wine glass water water!
And stop the tease with the isosurface already I want to play with water!
Daz3D has no idea how sexy the Genesis 1/2/3 SSS skin will look in the shower or freshly emerged from the swimming pools!
Or how cool the kickass Genesis males will look breaking through physics brick walls like Dare Devils!
Aaaarrrgghhh we need to have dynamics!
Do I sound excited or what?!!!!!!
I'd like:
1) A controls propertie and icon to visually hide morphs changes without the need use of reset o Ctrl+z option. like eye icon in Photoshop layers.
2) When you've selected multiples nodes: the option of "hide selected" without the need to hide one by one each node. (note: Parameters>Display>Visible only works with the first node selected).
My main annoyance in DS right now is that selecting any object DESELECTS its selected surfaces. I know this is more like a bug report, but I'l throw it in anyway. You never know. Someone at DAZ may actually see it.
As for features, why can't we have a Drag Select, alla Photoshop/3d Max? Very useful for selecting awkwardly placed objects, or multiple objects.
Drag-and-drop in the Scene pane works, I'm not sure why the command in the Edit menu doesn't but would think it was a bug.
The Parameters pane button will work - it sounds as if you have the wrong options set in the parameters pane option menu. For multi-node editing you need Consolidate Properties checked and Dsplay Separate Items unchecked.
The only thing I would like to see in any new version - preferably before Studio 5 - is for DAZ to stop adding new features until ALL the bugs have been fixed. I reported one over a year ago, and it still hasn't been fixed. I even suggested a way to solve the problem which would improve the user interface. In addition there is now a new bug - the default colours in the parameter settings are black, so even if you don't change anything and 'Accept' the colours in the slider box change. I am referring to the Render Settings Tab, although, this is also a problem elsewhere.
Get the movie settings working properly - there are times when it is impossible to edit the start and end frames for the render - the only way to change them is to use the up/down arrows. It takes some time to click from 950 to 0!
Once all the bugs have been fixed then proceed to add new features.
It might be nice to be able to select multiple objects in the scene tab and move/scale/rotate them all at once. But I suppose that's too much to ask.
It works if you group them.
See the second half of my post just above yours for a reason mutli-selection might not be working. You might also want to look at the new Secondary Nodes option in DS which, when turned on via Tool Settings, causes all selected nodes to respond to the changes made via the widger to the primary selection (the one with the widget on its origin).
Bigger icons and text so people with vision problems can see what they are doing.
Partially covered in 4.9.2. (Work in progress.)
The latest builds of DS at least respond to the Windows DPI settings, work is already being done to provide a more comprehensive solution to the sizing issue.
Duplicate the Geometric Edges Comic Book Preview that is in Poser 11. I would REALLY like this feature.
And the ability to increase the font size in the app -- it looks tiny on my large monitors.
Like PW Toon?
A feature that I would like is when you are in the UV Viewer to have the option to export that UV as an image in what ever resoloution of choice
A non-spherical D-Former with the ability to change the strength of the effect as a function of the D-Former radius aside from the default :(
It already exists. Change it to weight mapping.
Odd one, but I would like bigger pull handles when moving objects. When I'm trying to work fast I end up clicking on the "background" of the scene, thus deslecting everything. The option for bigger pull handles would be nice and improve efficiency.
* Someone also mentioned multiple collision selection. +1 to that.
* Marque selection like in Photoshop. Sometimes I just want to left click, drag and select objects in my scene. It just makes sense for workflow.
* A list of shaders that are being used in your scene.

Again, a comprehensive detailed manual with all the bells and whistles with screenshots. Even things like how to create your own slider for a character, or how to save characters for redistribution. Also Mac user instructions included. I've tried to watch the video tutorials but I like to watch on my iPad and the font size on the menus is too small to see in the videos and everyone has a different UI set up so I have no idea what is actually being clicked and I'd like something I can refer back to easily rather than remembering where in the video tutorial it was. Also hand and face cameras as part of the UI. A way to have parameter limits off by default instead of having to uncheck them individually each time. (Which may already be possible but without a manual I have no idea if it is.) Roll over pop ups wth everything in the menus explaining what it does in layman terms briefly with a link explaining more about it. I'd add more but I'm still learning the program and don't even know what I don't know yet to change because half of the usability of the program seems to be a well hidden secret and you have to dig deep to find out what everything actually does and you don't find out till later that some products you paid quite a bit for, you could have done yourself in minutes if you knew the program was capable of doing that i.e.: saving autofit clones... So, yeah, mostly a complete user friendly users manual with step by step screenshots and a lot of visual references when dealing with shaders, Iray and lighting, showing visually the differences each setting makes. Detailed instructions for the advanced capabilities, sub-d, geographs, shader baking, and so many things I haven't even found yet but I see mentioned in the forums by advanced users. I don't even understand what half the things are that people are requesting here, but I'd like to know what they are, what they do and how to use them. I feel like DS is part of a secret elite club and you have to go on a scavenger hunt to figure out how to get in... I suggested before in another thread, maybe making a manual available on Amazon if Daz wants to make money on it and is afraid of piracy of a PDF. I have spent a lot of money on products, I would certainly pay for a manual on how to actually use them to their full capacity, I'd even buy a hard copy if that was available... If the program is expanding and adding more bells and whistles, great! But please have a way new users can actually learn the program. Thanks.
