Try placeing a spotlight, not a distant light, above the leaves angled down at the elks. It tends to bring a shadow right where you want it. The distant light covers too big an area. You can narrow the beam on a spotlight down to a specific area. This might help.

    :-)

I will try that! I'm always worried that I'll wind up with unreal-looking "light from nowhere," but I should be able to to angle it close enough to the sun's direction to keep it believable. Thank you!

sorry to not be around lately, glad Zamuel wanted to judge. I can't believe page 17 already and it's not even the 15th yet. WOW mmalbert, those are some great renders you have been posting, and music.... LOVE the skulls in the graveyard.. You don't enter very often, but this one is off the charts cool in my opinion. And all the other renders are so cool too. Great theme Dolly,

I haven't been posting alot lately cuz I have had some health issues (other than the trying to slice my finger off thing) that have taken over my life right now. NOT cancer or anything bad like that. Not sick either. DAMN I hate being a female sometimes. I have to go in for surgery the middle of next month so I will not be in the forum for a few days. It has sort of taken over my life right now and has taken me 5 months just to get in to see a specialist (I hate not having health insurance). But at least I qualify for a couple of free programs so that this won't have any out of pocket expense for me.
I'm still lurking when I can so you better behave now, and no more fudging on the rules everyone, make sure you read them carefully and understand them before you start your render, and YES ask lots of questions if you don't understand the rules, but don't try to change them, we get very angry when you try to change them....... LOL
*lays out several pies in the thread for anyone that needs them to keep people in line or just to have fun, it's your choice* then tosses several in the air to get the next person that comes in and runs off laughing........

    ... NOTICE ...

Well half this month is gone already and we still do not have a host for next month. SO, I will volunteer to host it.

BWSman was suppost to host it, he claimed it, but he will not be able to do that. So, since it was to be HIS month, I would like to do a BWSman tribute theme. As most of you now know, B lost both his legs within a few years, BUT he was NOT handicapped. He refused to let it get him down and carried on with his life as normal. His strength and courage was an inspiration for us all. His respect for life and his help he offered those in need pushed his ability to be a humaniterian off the charts. He will always be a hero in my book.

In his honor, The theme will be "Handicapped, but NOT!" and you must show folks with handicaps helping, playing, having fun, and just enjoying life as they know it. There are lots of freebies for this out there.

I am sure B would have liked the idea, because THAT was the kinda guy he was.

In one contest month a few years ago, B won a prize from me I had made. He expressed how much he loved this prize and he used it in many renders. In his honor, I would like to donate a copy of this prize to all who enter with respect to B. It is a guitar I modeled where I took the two most famous brands of guitars, Gibson (Les Paul) and Fender (Stratocaster), and made one guitar out of them. I call it a "Gibder StratOPaul" and B just loved it. So all who enter the challenge will get a copy. I hope you will all join in and enter something for B. I will NOT bend any rules though because THAT was B's "bur under his saddle" as he put it, so be sure to obide by them.

I think it will be a lot of fun and good memories to share, so please come one, come all next month.

BWSman's very last post in this challenge, two days before his passing:

thanks my friend, you are a true friend, even though we have never met person to person, I consider you one of my good friends. Too bad we live on the opposite sides of the country, you and your wife and me and my hubby could go have fun and would probably be close friends. I appreciate your prayers and know that it will help.

what a great idea music. I love the theme and know B would be honored and proud. to read his last post makes me cry and very sad, but it also makes me remember what a great person he was and an inspiration to all who knew him. If I can muster up a render before I go into surgery I am going to try.

Music, a fast question.. does it has to be handicapepd people, or could it also be animals? Better to ask before I start to think and look if I am able to try it out.

I do love the theme, and I am grumbling loudly that I am not able to model stuff myself, or I would have had a great idea *smiles*

I have a feeling this one might be a problem because its theme involves some miniature stuff and may be too small, even if the full-sized image is 1300 x 1600. If so, that's fine -- I'll change it to a NAE. I had fun putting it together no matter what.

    ...

    The Fairy Garden

    Technical

It took a while to check the links - I hadn't been to FaerieWylde in over a week (so I was distracted by the new posts), then I saw BedTee has an A3 pose (so I had to make a note to add it to the A3 freebies list), and I had a bit of trouble seeing where you'd used the TransPonds Rock Pack (I guess I was distracted by the "bikini"-clad girl sitting on them).

All the links check out, and I can see everything without resorting to my reading glasses.

(adds the RanQuist site to my list of bookmarks)

    Composition and Artistic

Excellent use of space, following the Rule of Thirds (the image can be divided into thirds - in this case, vertically - and there's something of interest in both of the outer thirds).

Only one thing breaks the verisimillitude, and I had to look closely to see what was gnawing at me: the shadows are pointing toward what looks to be the sun in the sky. But you could say the apparent sun is a combined refraction/reflection effect on the snowglobe's glass, so don't re-render on my account.

    And it's cute!

Aw, man - that was him accepting my June entry...

I don't normally do this two months in a row, and if somebody else steps up to the plate, I'll yield the spot, but... it's for BWSman. I'll judge next month as well if you need me.

Thanks for the comments on the fairy garden pix.

I really enjoyed pulling it all together. It was five separate scenes -- the fairy garden set up, then the larger garden, then the kid character, then the fishing Kelm, and finally the partying Kali/Kelm -- merged into one for rendering. I always find it a lot easier to build these bigger scenes piecemeal.

The bushes on the bigger garden scene disappeared when I brought in the Snow Globe scene -- still all "?!?!" about that -- but I found them again.

I probably should've done all the Kali/Kelm figures as separate scenes. It would've made it easier to pose those tiny wings. o.O

Wish I could find the link to the log house. I'm pretty sure I didn't download it all that long ago. I also forgot one link, a pose from a set I used on the kid: Lost Things K4 Poses - http://www.ShareCG.com/v/54851/view/11/Poser/Little-Lost-Things-poses-for-K4\Kids4

I was careful not to have a sun show up in the sky dome; that's a cloud looking like a sun because of the reflection on the glass. But I admit I suck at making my own outdoor lighting, even after all this time.

The glass initially had refraction, but it distorted the view of several freebies and so I got rid of it. I know realism is important to some folks, but it isn't really my thing.

I love that Bed Tree prop; so glad I could finally use it for something.

jeeperz, good luck with the surgery and may you have a quick and easy recovery. (I'm needle-phobic and have an irrational fear of doctors and dentists, so I would not be dealing with such things as calmly as you are.)
