Meh, turns out Mr. Brilliant ALSO changed ow errors work and are reported, and now the tester has to implement part of the complex communications protocol the device uses! Easily another days worth of Perl work, and my Perl is really poor. :blank:

At least I don't have to come in on the weekend.. happy happy joy joy.. and the manufacturing floor is shut down tomorrow so I wont be dodging running machinery. :blank:

Well.. this job keeps me in beer and fried chicken.. I should just shut up.

They kicked m off the floor so they can make a production run, so at least I get an hour and a half to eat lunch (finally) and try to re-learn Perl.

Perl's reasonably sane (There's More Than One Way To Do It...)... give me a holler if you get stuck (^_^)n.

The big issue is that it's Perl code written by someone who could barely program. He used the same routine names in over a dozen files, so grepping to find what's being called returns a page of hits. :blank: It's all brute force, and tons of hardcoded values that should have never been hardcoded - making it very fragile - and it's near impossible to maintain. :ahhh:

Oh, and almost comment-free, and undocumented 100%. :ahhh:

The perpetrator left exactly one month before the code started falling apart. He's in Dallas somewhere, I should hunt him down just so I can slap his face and call him an incompetent bozo! :vampire:

    It's a living. *shrug emote*

...at the very least make him buy you dinner in the fanciest joint in the Big D.

totally weary today. pushing around routers and gnarly boxes, just looking at em makes me itch.

no side trips on the way home, weary weary. my buppy is having canned for dinner. he'll sulk for a while. may have spoiled him a wee bit cooking his dindins.

Today is a day for being dead tired exhausted, for sure.

    Real Complaint from me:
Didja ever feel like you might be cursed?
You may recall a few weeks ago I had trouble getting my lawnmower going (or you may not...the choice is yours); I had to have a repairman to fix it twice. Finally it worked perfectly and I got the lawn mowed a couple of times (yay), then the monsoon season began.
So last week my dog died, I fell on my butt and hurt my back, hobbled around for the rest of the week.
This week, my back is better, we have had some dry cool days, and today seemed like the perfect day to mow the lawn (insert sense of foreboding here). The mower cranked right up, and I finished mowing around the outer edge, immediately bumped the height lever against the mailbox, sending the height bar to the lowest height, and as the blades struck the ground, the drive belt for the blades slipped off the pulley.
So now the mower is sitting on the porch, waiting for the repairman to return tomorrow. And no, I can't fix it myself, as I am mechanically declined. :blank:
As Popeye used to say, " I yam disgustipated." :blank:

Geez, I'm very sorry! I hope things turn around for you soonest.

    Dana

    ...yep, that's exactly what happened

Was replying to your post with the link to the "Photoshop Disasters" when that site timeout which randomly occurs sent me to the login page after I clicked "Submit Post". Was able to recover the text of my reply with an FF plugin, but by the time I signed back in and resubmitted, a couple new comments had been added in between breaking the continuity.

Fixed the post to preserve continuity.

Whew, made it home before the drizzle set in :)

The bus was late so I took the time to shop - got a six of Stella Artois, egg beaters, pecanwood smoked sausage and mesquite smoked sausage! :cheese: Don't have to worry about food for a llloonnggg timr.. tortillas too so I can make chorizo breakfast tacos this weekend! :cheese:

Now backing up content.. I'll install it this weekend when I feel more like doing something meaningful and not like goofing off. :P

...Egg Beaters are what allow me to use eggs again as they had an all egg white version. It's the yolks that are a no no for me. I can now enjoy omelets and egg batter toast again. Now you got me hungry for my special Wisconsin brekkie skillet sizzle which uses kilebasa, southern style hash potatoes, green pepper, onion, egg whites and cheese.

Geeze... 69 pages in 10 days so that's 6.9 pages average a day. Which for me takes 6.9 minutes to read, post much folks?

Well, lets talk more on jobs, 32 total years in the work force. Twenty five to six of that in Retail top management. The last ten to eleven for one Company, we shall call it Slave-A-Lot. This was my thing, Hey you've done such a wonderful job in store number 1 we want you to take over store number 2. It's 30mins father to drive, and we can't get you a raise, yet, but we really need you to fix this store. In my, lets call it 10 years with them, I ran three different stores and of those three different stores I ran 2 of them twice each. So it was go to store, spend two years, fix all the issues and get profit back into the high green area, followed with hey go do that again over here. After my last ship off to another store, which happened to be back to the first one again, I had had enough store hopping, 3 different locations and 5 fully different crews in that time. They did treat me well, the money did get good, for this part of the world any way, but salary and on call 24/7/365, including vacation time, became a bit much. By this time I was also showing the early signs of Arthur and kidney problems, which I chalked up to labor for twenty some odd years and ignored, to stop the store swapping merry-go-round I stepped down from Manager to Co-Manager. I was 30 mins from home, I took a bit of a salary hit, not much, and was no longer asked to swap stores. I kept that position, called Stock Manager until the Arthur got so bad I opted for early retirement, stock managers do lots of labor in Slave-A-lot's. One week to the day I had left the company my kidney's failed fully, the lower back pains were not from the work after all. And Here I am today. 100% disabled, the kidney thing caused a septic infection that nearly ended me, and kicked the Arthur into full gear, I just recovered enough kid function to get off Dialysis, for now, but Arthur kicked my butt big time. One Cane to walk and many other things. But back to the Jobs, I've been gone for just about five years now, two of the locations I saved, the ones I did twice each, are now closed. Sort of look back at that and feel good. The bad part is my Fav one, and the second closest are the two they closed. I now have to shop in over priced none family geared stores. Wally World and a discount place.

You did your job hey, that's all anyone can really do :)

...lovely city, been there several times, however not the best place for people like me who get regular house calls from uncle arthur to settle in though. I need more dry and warm.

So far here we've been having a lovely summer this year for once. Not too terribly hot with temps over the last few weeks almost spot on normal for this time of year. May dodge the usual August heatwave as the next ten days should be pretty much at average. Hasn't rained in any significant amount here since the last part of June.
