    Just a quick trial run of a new Starfleet uniform design, inspired by the posts for Star Trek: Horizon on this thread a while back. Sure, the phaser is a bit outdated, but we'll just say the Ensign is fond of antiques. wink

    On a personal note I always love seeing renders that use props that I built . that antique phaser was a very fun prop to build indeed

  • And onto the next trial run: a Pahkwa-thanh, using the Raptor morph for Gen 8.1. Experimented a bit with some insectoid eyes from RawArt's Lizardian, but in the end I'll probably ditch those in favor of something more reptilian. And an attempt at updating the Saurian to at least somewhat match Linus from Discovery.

  • Anyone else having this problem?

    I bought the Genesis 3 Retro Spacesuit over at 'Rocity (its the one that looks like the spacesuit in "The Tholian Web"), and its behaving strange for me.  In addition to the fact that I have to manually apply the spacesuit onto the character after loading it, and then have to fit it to the character, I find that on the right thigh, in the upper, inner leg, there is this distorted area that then appears that sticks outward from the skin when the character is standing, and then pulls inside the leg when you bend and twist the leg around.  The distortion isn't there when I simply load the suit into the scene, but appears when I add it onto the character.

    Did I somehow get a damaged copy of the product zip file?  0o

    Am I doing this wrong?  o0

    Is something else causing the distortion?

    (Bah, the example image is stuck at Uploading forever....  I'll just post without it.)

    this is the first time i have ever heard of an issue with this one ,

    nvent 3d would know more but for my part i think the file was somehow corrupted slightly in downloading it

    Who else here has actually used this product, though?  Could someone else who has it maybe do some renders in it to see if they're having the same issue?  In my case, at least, the leg-distortion seems to be more pronounced when the Growing Up morphs are applied, otherwise I just see what looks like mild wrinkles.  Or maybe the mild wrinkles aren't related.

    That said, upon looking at the renders on the product page, I notice that all the characters are standing with their right legs more or less straight, which makes me wonder if the ones doing the sample renders were having the same issue, too, but they needed to get the product out by some deadline or something. Or maybe I'm just paranoid.  0o  ((Glances out the window.))

    On the other hand, the product has been out for a least a couple years, so it seems unlikely to have gone that long without someone else noticing a problem like this and commenting on it, such that they'd want to push out a corrected version.

    There do seem to be some issues. Here's a render of the suit on a default G3M, a pict of the boots not knowing what model they're made for when I try to autofit  them to the figure (there's no "G3M" in the menu) and a render after a pose has been applied, showing issues in the upper-right thigh/hip region.

    Yeah, I ancountered that issue with it not being "aware" this was a G3M with at least the male version of the product.  I don't think I saw it when I was doing this on the female version, but then I was paying more attention to seeing what I oculd do about the distortion in the thigh.

  • The product page mentions having to turn on a smoothing modifier (image 8). Maybe that's their solution to fixing the issue?

  • Yeah, saw that bit.  Trouble is, the image they made of what to select is blurry as heck.  0o

    I suppose I could possibly kit-bash someone else's space suit main body in and simply use some of the other add-ons on that.  I mainly wanted it for the distinctive space-helmet section.

    I am one of the creators if this suit. I didn't run into these issues myself, not did the site when testing them. I will take another look when I get home from work. Feel free to pm me.

    It looks to me as if this is just one of those things that didn't get cought during the rigorous Testing process that they put our products through at rendo .

    niether jeremy or myself saw anything like this while developing this product, and in all the time it has been for sale this is the first time anyone has reported the problem .

    I suspect it is due to the suit being higher in polly count than the gen 3 figure body .

    I will also look into it . It might be that we will have to update this But not to worry updated products are free to those who have already perchased

    so i have been playing around with the space suit , it appears the real problem is that the suit is too polygon dense in the pelvic regon. that is more than likely the couse of the distortiond . i have spoken to nvent3d about it   and we are looking into updaing the product

    Kewl, I am thankful for the devs hopping in on this.

    The issue was more noticible when I applied the spacesuit onto a kid character (Growing Up morphs) and saw a bump coming out sideways from the thigh, between the legs.  Not sure what aspect of smaller-stature-character morphs is causing this, but it might help to easier track down what's going on here.

    Well I was hoping to have this fixed and sent to you tonight, but i had issues.  Anyhow we have reduced the poly's which will smooth it out quite a bit, and Bluto caught some crossover polys on the leg, those have been fixed as well.  I need to redo the textures and re rig the suit for male and female... then resub to the other site.  But once I get this fixed if everyone on here wants to pm me proof they bough the suit and send their email address I will send the updated files as soon as I am done.

    Incidentally, while we're on the subject, I want to say that I love the design style of your products....  Owing to the fact that you're making what amounts to a ST:TOS-and-50s/60s-spaceopera pastiche, presumably also so that CBS doesn't come after you for making these look TOO close to Trek Classic, I love the shifts you made in some of the designs.  For instance, in one of the Genesis 3 clothing packs, you have a phaser rifle with largely design  elements from "Where No Man..." (the overall shape) while pulling in elements from "Managerie" (i.e. the multple-emiters on the tip), so its sort of a cross between the two TOS pilots.

    Funny thing is, while I bought the space suit to use at some point in a render about some kid daydreaming about being in the TOS universe, a lot of your other Trek-inspired props are ones I might use in a more general-scifi universe... one which was built around the idea of their being a star-faring civilization that actually existed while the original Star Trek was in production, and who upon then discovering Star Trek, sat down and watched all the episodes like any other fans of good entertainment... and then said, "Hang on a minute... we can BUILD this stuff!"  laugh laugh

    you have no idea how great it is to hear that , i like to think that , i do most of the design work on the props that we build . i am like to think that i am reimagineering the astetics of the original show.

    one of the topics jeremy an i spent hours and hours discussing was the fact that we did not want these products to be only trek tos .

    we thought that they should also be done creativly evough to be used for other types of images as well.

     i will not lie i dont wish to get on paramonts legal radar so i try verry hard to give this stuff its own look while still retaining some of the flavor of the origanal series.

    we love this kind of feed back as it tells us we are doing the kind of things people want .

    we also want to hear what else you want so we can expand the things we make. thank you very much i am touched and feel very honoerd

    Actually, the round-robin-stories universe this was in predated Galaxyquest by many years.  More or less the sub-plot was, they saw sci-fi things on TV, and decided to build working replicas of them for the fun of it.  In that way, it was probably closer to Ready Player One (or, well, Second LIfe) than Galaxyquest.

    But, yeah, GalaxyQuest was a fun movie.  ("IT'S A ROCK!!!  IT'S DOESN'T **HAVE** ANY VULNERABLE SPOTS!!!!!!")
