...I wonder if the issues aren't OS/hardware related

On the i7 workstation I still don't see smilies (must have something to do with a browser filter) and have to log in each day, however I never get misdirected to my account or logged out once I am signed in. That system is running Win7 64. Where I experience the misdirect issues is on the duo core notebook which is running XP32. I also occasionally get a "script failure" error sometimes when I open FF on it, but not on the workstation.

The workstation has a direct cable connection while the notebook is networked to it via wireless (the modem is a dual function one that also acts as a local wireless hub). Most likely he is using the hotel's wireless hub which, if there are a lot of others on (particularly anyone streaming movie or long videos) it will have an impact on performance. I know when I used to go to the hotspot if there were a lot of people online response was slow sometimes almost as bad as it was from home with my old wireless plan. If only two people there were streaming long video feeds, throughput would also grind to a crawl.

I'm on about 14 hours a day and I get logged out once a day. I very very rarely get redirected when trying to post. I spend 10 hours on my desktop and 4 on my laptop. I don't see a lot of the problems some do. I must be very lucky

...sounds like you have a similar setup like I do. While I get the misdirects on the notebook they don't happen with quite the frequency they used to before I switched carriers, or what Wooly was dealing with. Then again, the modem is fairly close to the desk with the notebook (within arm's reach) so the signal strength is rated as "excellent".

For me response becomes more a matter of how fast a site's server network is and how well does it handle peak user loads.

I love the download speed, just DL'd a couple or Willmap's new clothing offerings from ShareCG and even though they were in the 30 - 40MB size range, the downloads completed almost instantly. ShareCG must have one heck of a nice server farm.

My desktop is a core2duo, but running Windows XP 32bit. I have a gigabit wired connection to my top of the line Netgear router. It is wireless, but it has 4 wired connections, too. I've gotten download speeds of 4 Megabytes per second. I have issues with being logged out more than once a day. And the other night I tried to post and it kept sending me to the login page, and then to my account page. I even logged out, then logged in, and the same thing kept happening. I went away and came back an hour or two later and it was all better.

As for ShareCG, I don't get high speeds like you do. Maybe you're closer to their point of origin?

I think the issues are on their end, not on our end. Between Magento and CloudFlare, it's amazing we get anything here.

I don't know. Remember, those Brits pronounce things oddly sometimes. It's their language and they don't say things right. For instance, aluminum...they pronounce that Al-you-min-ee-um...but, there is no second "i" in there!!!

And jag you ar, rather than jagwarr. Of course, in the commercials for the car, it used to be pronounced the British way, but now that it was bought by an American company, the commercials pronounce it the American way. I thought it was a little humorous when I heard the first commercial after the buyout went through.

And they don't even bother with plexiglass! They call it perspex! %-P

Usually, when strippers render their clothing...it means they're tearing it off!

Yes, well, no guarantee that after rerendering they'll be TOS-compliant... ;-).

When did I ever complain about noisy youths? I might not like rap or hip hop, or some of that techno crap, but I don't complain about...wait, before I go on, what exactly do you mean by young ones, and by noisy? I might have this all wrong.

    Dana

Robert Altman's film Prêt-à-Porter has all the stereotypes of fashion tragics but don't recall complaints about noise
