Just finished a render using Eternal Sands and decided to re-render it using the lights from Sublime Illumination. Deleted the old lights, added the new lights, got everything positioned and hit render. Almost an hour later and it's about 85% through and it might actually get through the horses tail in the next hour.
Forgot to turn off occlusion for things like the hair and the tail since these lights use UberEnvironment.
Annoying when that happens >_<.</p>
Yes it is. Even more annoying is that I think I like the original better.
First is the lights that came with Eternal Sands that took less than 30 minutes to render. Second is the one with Sublime Illumination's High Noon set that took just over an hour to render.
nice horse. colors look nice.
My complaint is that my dentist wants to charge $400 for the next visit. Um, no thank you. I think I'll go look for a dentist who charges a lower fee. Even if I had insurance, I don't think the insurance would cover the payment.
I think I like the first one better, too. The sand looks a little too greenish to me in the second one. And high noon, I would think the shadows would be more harsh directly under the horse.
Dana
I guess that depends on what will be done in your next visit. If it's just a 6 month cleaning and inspection, that's crazy. But if you have work that needs to be done, without insurance even fillings can get really expensive. Good luck!
Dana
My $0.02c... is that neither are particularly "high noon"ish because the shadow should be directly below the horse (depending on your latitude I guess... but let's not quibble over physical accuracy... when it's high noon it's high noon dammit! ;-) ). On the second pic/lightset, perhaps try turning down a bit whatever is producing the ambient light ... and tint the sand a bit yellower. I had to do that in my quickie render for Aidana over here:

...nearly done with my latest project for this month's PC challenge (got to at least place in one of these). A lot of kitbashing in this one and a lot of freebies (too bad it doesn't qualify for the theme of this month's freebie challenge). Lots of render tests as well because of some tricky lighting effects and resurfacing and a lot of time researching the different props I needed.
The one bugger, I keep getting this one small render artefact near the ceiling and can't figure out what is causing it
...sheesh,these are getting more and more involved. Whatever happened to the days when I threw a couple props, characters some lights, a set together and then hit render?
Couldn't help keep notice one of the fellows in the scene (David5 with one of Male-M3dia's MD3Men for D5) looks a bit like Jeff Goldblum from Independence Day when viewed close up. Maybe it's the nerdy glasses that do it.
Had to fake the lab coats using the Mean Streets top coat and Fabricator/Mach Pack. Found a free one for Genesis, but it had serious layering/collision issues that were taking way to much time to figure out. The only other one i have is the Mad Scientist one for Toon Gramps but the style isn't right for a lab assistant.
If anyone knows where I could find a good one (even for M4) whether free or at a very minimal cost, I'd much appreciate it.
There's the Doctor Coat at Martin's optitex site, and it's free.

...400$!?!?! I could get a 24GB of DDR3 tri channel RAM kit and theWIn7 Pro 64 upgrade needed to support it for that.

...yeah, but it's Optitex Dynamic and the built in Dynamic tools in Daz just don't seem to work right for me (which Is why I have very little Dynamic content outside of the few free items they gave away at the beginning and the Jeans & T Shirt for V4). I just need a simple conforming one that has a few shaping/movement morphs.
What sort of shadow setting are you using on your shadow-casting lights? if you're using "deep shadow map", try switching to the "raytraced" and doing a spot render of the area to see if it makes any difference (I believe there'll be a speed hit, so you don't want to do a final-quality render just to test this...).
Another possibility - is the surface of the ceiling using bump or displacement, with a negative minimum? ... trying offsetting the values to be 0 based (eg if it's using Min -0.1 Max 0.1, then set it to Min 0.0 Max 0.2), and doing another spot render. Alternatively, if it's really in a corner of the ceiling, try reducing the spread of values a bit (eg Min 0.0 Max 0.1).
I've noticed (and removed) artefacts in my recent DS4.6 renders using both these things.

...the one by Ghastly is the one I tried to use that had layering issues. Lots of poke through even when I made D5 the collision target.
The "Mad Scientist" style doesn't work as i mentioned. I'm looking for one that is more generic like you would see lab assistants in an old 50s/60s Sci-Fi or Secret Agent film film wear.
Without going into details let's just say i need treatment for unhealthy gums and teeth. Ick. The regular cleaning and inspection only cost $99. Hey, that is about the same price as Carrara 8.5. Thanks for the support. I'm going to watch some more videos about Hexagon and Bryce. later

..all shadows are raytraced. I stopped using DSMs once I moved to the new system since ray traced shadows look more real. The scene has five spotlights, three in under a platform shining up at the main prop in the centre all at the default spread value with Raytraced shadows. The other two are aimed at the main character, one set to specular only and the other for casting shadows (again both at default spread). The rest of the lights are Linear Point Lights (12) some with, and some without shadows as well as a main UE light at low intensity for overall ambient fill.
Yeah it's a lot of lights, but when a certain effect or style is called for, UE alone really doesn't cut it.
I'll check the surface settings. after the latest render test and see if that doesn't help.

If you have the Supersuit for Genesis one trick I've found is to add that and puff out the areas that you're seeing poke through then have the coat conform to the suit. Then you just set the opacity for the suit to 0 and it should disappear but leave your lab coat properly shaped.
...sounds like a good idea, but unfortunately never bought the Supersuit as I don't do a lot of comic book hero pics and really wasn't excited by the texture maps that came with it. I expected a more "basic" or "classic" superhero look, which of course was available with expansion sets at an additional cost. Being on a tight budget it became one of those "nice to have but can't justify the Zloty's for it now" items.
Yeah the extra texture sets are nice but I find that I tend to use some of the new shaders more these days than any of the stuff I bought with it. Things like the latex and goo shaders work amazingly well for superhero costumes as well as things like Stormtrooper armor.
Funnily enough I find I've used it more as either a tool to help with things like poke through or even as leggings or a swimsuit more than I've used it as an actual superhero suit.
ETA: SickleYield has a Super Clip Fixer for Genesis over at Rendo that looks like it basically does the same thing and it's much more affordable if that's all you wanted the suit for.

OK. I'll try again. :)
it's not too soon to work on some halloween theme renders?
buppy is patiently waiting for his chickee nuggies to cook.
Morning. Meh gloomy day here but I'm starting to feel a lot brighter so feh to grey skies and coldness :)
warm up a cold morning with pancakes or cream o wheat?
I certainly agree there - it provides just one element of the overall lighting rig (for me, usually the ambient occlusion / overall illumination of the scene)... but I always end up adding a "barn-doored" long narrow spec light or two (for hair or skin), and possibly a few extra point lights or volume lights as well. Also when I discovered the Gamma Correct button on the Render Properties (and set that slider to 2.2)... was a major O.O moment for me X).
There really is no generic works-for-all-situations "Make Lighting" button (-_-)...
ETA@Misty: pancakes! \(^_^)/

I think I may have it. :)

A freebie, so the price is right. It's made for M4 but converts quite nicely to genesis. Includes some nice morphs and shirt and pants. The shoes don't transfer well, but they rarely do.
The pictures, Genesis: the clothes are as you see them here, no smoothing modifiers added, no morphs or adjustments on the clothes.
On David 5, zero pose, and posed. looks pretty good to me, and the price is right. :)
Shhhhhh...I want to believe he'll be back!
DanaFYI folks, the Wooly has gone his own way before and in some cases it has been months before the return. My fear is he will get the I'm not doing 3D any longer and go into one of his SELL everything kicks while he is gone. That too has happened in the past.
UPDATE: Still no tracking info on my PC. The four day test period must be in some place with different day lengths than mine.

Hope you get it soon.
And I don't mean "soon". ;-)
If you're using Genesis, I think Sickle Yield's Sickle Super Clip Fixer Genesis would be the thing. I picked it up on sale a while back, but he has sales a lot.
