O.K., I see what you mean.
First: I didn't know Jennette McCurdy until you've mentioned her.
Second: McCurdy kind of looks more like very early versions of my Roxy character for the Genesis3Female.
Third: Funny, that the real life Jennette McCurdy seems to look even more toony, than my character at its early stage.
In fact, my character's likeness is a wild mix of two Girls, that I know in person + several celebraties like the young Shirley Manson, Tracy Lords in her 40s, Kaley Cuoco, french actress Mireille Darc and just some randomness from sculpting.
This is one of my most recent photo-real renders. A Fallen Angel.
Home Again
looks good
To me that's amazing .. and I am usually extremely critic to details. She seems real. May be just the ear looks a little plastic. Of course I can't check the lights since there's no environment. It must be something with a strong backlight such as an outdoor clean sky.
Is it done in daz studio ? What's the character and outfit ? Can you post the skin settings and a wireframe ?
I didn't expect such appreciation for my post! This thread was a great inspiration to me, many thanks.
Yes it's rendered in daz studio and edited in Photoshop to fix poke-through.
The character is a mixture, mainly Sue. Her skin shader was mentioned above with a Mei Lin 8 reference. And HDRi map here.
For her outfit, you can use any dforce shirt(spunky girl outfit here), and change the scale of her shorts to a larger number at frame 0.
I don't think it's a bad thing for the character to look like her though. I think it's a good looking character.
Both the expression and pose are fantastic in this one, @Masterstroke. In particular, it seems very natural to me how she appears to be looking at whoever is taking the picture.
Great looking character, too. I would buy her if she were available in the store.

There simply needs to be a good Definitive Photorealism guide...and we should someone like Jeff_Someone make it.
If only there was a 'render in a box' type of scene like Jeff's.
I've been trying new things ever since reading it all in this thread, but I wish the tutorial was out there somewhere, in full.
I think this person's image should be mentioned here. They didn't say it was done in IRAY, but I think they made it a lot more realistic than most.

^ I think the mattress and her face are weak points, but otherwise it looks good. The pose and body are good.
Cropped from a larger image, but I think it came out pretty great. Thoughts?
A shot at an older character, fibermesh brows, morphs and skin and normal maps all made by myself.
This looks really good, remcovanembden. I'd say you may need to increase the SSS of the skin...?
Neat! Any way you could share the shader?
Much appreciated!
May I also have a copy please? Im having a little trouble having the skin look good.
I am still not happy with every part of the surface. But i have used here a light which shows how the skin reacts, and another character.
The problem is, not one skin is the same. I have used maps that scatter and also blood maps. The problem is this, every character have different kind of maps needed, depending on the skin. Also normal maps play a huge role in my skin process( 8k maps, i even tested 16 k maps).
Also extremely important are real bpr textures.
This character uses the same principle but different maps and also a bit different settings. As youIit is not easy. I think iray still lacks a lot of stuff for skin. Maybe a costum MDL shader is better.
I am very happy with most ISource Texture skins. The skin shaders are very good. You'll have to add your custom maps, or fix the maps coming with those characters though.
BTW: I can spot second circle HDRIs in your renders. I use them too.
I dont know, i make my own stuff. Regarding the lights, yes i used them to test the shader, i am not too happy with the lights itself, for me often hit or miss.
The skin here looks quite good, especially on the face. You're definitely working toward something great!
Hm. This character looks too "solid" to me... almost as if she'd caked on too much makeup.
Rendered Daz Iray
I just started using Daz Studio again after a while, just wondering if anyone has an opinon on this image?
Thanks in advance.
I have read a lot of posts in the forums, but this is my first time posting something.
