Mine is just a Ken Gilliland version of my favorite bird at the local zoo, a hyacinth macaw. His name is Thor and he talks. He says "cracker" and "back to work". Here is the real Thor.

    Where's his hammer? ;)
With a beak like that, who needs a hammer?

    no Fizzgig

Yeah it was time for a change. Fizzgig is on backup though

    I'm going to miss Fizzgig.

I suppose I should add to the confusion and start using an avatar myself.

Mine is a small version of a laser art photograph I created centuries ago (well, decades anyway). You take a hobby-grade Helium Neon laser and bounce the beam off a piece of crumpled reflective Mylar in a darkened room. You then photograph the image on the wall opposite. The interference fringes around the center beam get folded by the wrinkled Mylar to form a variety of interesting images. The original title of this one was "Spiderman's Ghost". I use this avatar everywhere.

I did, but I just assumed it was a name from another real-world language.

Interesting, not just the use of the alphabet, but the name itself. Images keep flashing through my mind of possible explanations for the name "turning mountain" (the mountain that turns around). Any info on how the name was truly arrived at?

Yes, but that doesn't stop my imagination from playing with it. ;-)

My avatar is just a snippet from a larger pic I did of a heroic figure from Chinese mythology, whom I depicted as a well-built muscleman (I long to be one myself). I'd show the pic here, except he's stark naked. %-P

Mine combines the symbol for "female" with a stylized spider. I like spiders, and I usually use something spider-related as an avatar. Since my online presentation is neutral to aggressive, and the internet assumes everyone to be male in the absence of incredibly obvious cues otherwise, people have often assumed I was male; the disguised female symbol is intended as a humorous gesture at that fact.

    You like spiders?

Ummmm... Well, I guess we're just different...

Mine is the longest lived AD&D character I ever played. Jade started as a bunch of random dice rolls from a set of new rules at level 0, 12 years later, that's real years of play, he is 30+ years old now, we were both good friends. The other Players never loved him much, but then Jade was not meant to be the best friend type. As a Avy I love him, but I try to not be him on the forums. Users wouldn't like that.

I paid a very nice Russian artist on deviantArt $3 (I think?) to draw an avatar-sized image of my character Smacky.

Mine is saying how did this happen. It reminds me to notice what I do because every now and then my renders come out perfect and I do not know how I did it.

What's wrong with spiders? I've always liked them, Snakes & bats, too. Growing up, I couldn't figure out why the Addams family's neighbors thought they were strange, either, so maybe it's just me.

Mine came from just messing around seeing what skin textures might work on Four Arms. I liked how it turned out, so I used it for my avatar. My screen name came from a character in a comic that a friend & I were working on, but she looked nothing like my avatar does.

I finally added an avatar, was planning to when I came up with something I really liked.

If you want to play 'spot the figure used' go ahead. :)

Reasoning: I like somewhat pretty guys.

    Aha, a kindred spirit.

Humans have a tendency to be instinctively repulsed by creatures that are physically very different from ourselves, with the greater the difference, the greater the revulsion (overcome only by the "decorator" motif that "pretty" arthropods like butterflies have). This is sometimes called the arachnid response, and our ancestors may have fostered it as a survival trait because it caused us to avoid venomous creatures (most of which are not mammals or birds).

I was born without an arachnid response. I've always been fascinated by reptiles, amphibians, and arthropods. I don't think bats really count because if you look at them closely they are objectively adorable. :D I've always felt drawn to spiders because of their alien shapes and behaviors, and because they're just beautiful to me.

Love spiders, snakes, rats, mice, bats and all the other creepy crawly creatures out there. I don't like roaches, fleas, ticks or anything else that threatens me and my furry body! Addams Family one of my all time favorite shows growing up, along with the Munsters, Bewitched and My Favorite Martian. Night Gallery and Outer Limits too!

You have good taste in shows. And animals. Roaches are a particular dislike of mine. I think I spent more time in college killing roaches than actually studying. Boston is full of the little (often, not so little...) terrors. They were one of the things that made my time in Florida more unpleasant, too. It's hard to imagine they're closely related to mantises. Which I do like.

Yea, I'm from Florida originally. I grew up with Palmetto bugs, which are flying roaches that are carnivorous. So I was also killing allot of them along with fleas and mosquito's!

I like things that are a little more alien-looking. Just weird things in general. Although my favorite critters are cats. As long as I can remember, I've been an ailurophile. But I did my fair share of bringing home all sorts of invertebrates, too. Crayfish were fun to watch; I got a kick out of how fast they can go backwards.

During my time in Florida (two winters in St. Pete, 3 years in Orlando) I saw some roaches that I think may have scared off the alligators. I'm glad that the only things in my house here are spiders and centipedes. Lots of butterflies and bees outside, but not this late in the year. And mantises. We seem to attract them around our property.
