AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH.
That's is awesome and i don't know why but just for that picture i got this image of a little mouse running off... okay, time to fur the housemouse :P
Great one Wendy~!
Gah, so no use in LuxRender or Octane?
I bought the base Big Cats 2 product. I haven't had time to try playing with it yet, but I took a quick look in the textures directory and there are texture files for the teeth and inner mouth. So even if they've used some custom shader in Studio to tweak their appearance, you should be able to create a reasonable material setting for them in LuxRender or other external renderer, albeit it will require some manual tweaking.
I also noticed most of the texture files have "Copyright 2004 DAZ" notices in them, so it would guess they've made the new cat shape use the same UV maps as the older big cat. (I don't have the older version, so can't directly compare.) I don't know if there were many third-party skins for the original big cat, but if they've made the UV match, then that will make it easy to use those other skins. (Maybe this gets people the white tiger skin that I've seen others asking about in this thread if they have the old version.)
Also, as with the DAZ Horse 2, there are no bump/displacement/normal maps for any of the included skins. That contributes to the flat look the non-LAMH promo renders all have...
Well, I haven't had a render for LuxRender that didn't manual tweaking of pretty much everything in the scene, so that would be expected for the Big Cat. But who releases a texture without bump maps? On a new figure. With fur. Given how good DAZ' textures for their human characters are nowadays, I find this kind of shocking.
I was really curious about that too when i noticed it! I played with the daz horse 2 the other day, and only just noticed the whole "no bump/displacement" thing. Thought something had gone wrong and even browsed to the textures to find them. Nope. I can never really get the horse to look all that good.
When i installed the big cat 2, i went straight to the surfaces to check that out too, and was kinda stunned to see that again. I mean, wth??
Lindsey, that looks awesome!
Is the fur a preset that is available separately? I don't have the LAMH, whether free or paid version, so I was just wondering if the fur on your lion was from one that comes iwth it, or another set in the store specifically for the LAMH.
My first full play with BC2... Small but it was a test...
Click for full, small but not THAT small. Darn forum.

Thanks.. ! It's from the Real Fur for DAZ Big Cat 2 add-on product. It loads the Lioness character + the LAMH fur using a single preset.
Is it just me, or do a lot of textures not load by default. I had to manually add the teeth, claws, and inside mouth. An any case, here is a test render.
ncamp
Did you try rendering? Apparently those bits are similar to the croc/alligator models that came out a little while back, they use fancy shaders (SSS maybe?) that don't show up in the Viewport.
I did a couple quickie renders of a jaguar sabertooth.... which I realize makes absolutely zero sense, but it looks cool... so Im going with that :P lol
I can makez request? Plleeeease, pllleeeaseeeee give us a white bengal tiger
That does look really Cool !! having a lot of fun with your backgrounds...... If I could please add to the wish list bigger claws and larger wider teeth... oh I might as well go for the gold a thicker tongue..... Bengal...Bengal...Bengal...thanks Trish
I have not purchased Big cat 2 yet, but from pictures seen to date I am pretty disappointed with this supposed improved big cat model.
Awkward joint bends weird feet, very dodgy mouth and ears, basic face poor likeness to any big cat. Compare the pretty fine likeness that say genesis or genesis 2 has to a human, compared to this clunky model's likeness to a big cat. really not a good product update.
Perhaps the textures have been upgraded to higher quality which is great, but the model is not up to scratch in my opinion. Sad.
Question, will there be morph kits for the cat's like the genesis/G2F/M products have. Missed them for the Horse 2. Also some Dental Plan like product would be great.
In my opinion it's a great base model that can use some morphing add-on's like genesis. It would be great to morph in to skinnier - pregnant - muscled versions.
And kittens and half-grownup would be great.
I used the render settings that Alessandro posted in this thread, just changed the UE2 for the Advanced Ambient, and it took about 30 minutes.

I will try that Wendy was that using the fur purchase or trying to make fur??? Trish
That was using the preset that comes with the Big Cats Fur.

Agreed.
fur is complicated for me, lol, i tried making fur for the puppy while watching the tutorial video, and couldn't get past the part of the tutorial around the eyes, and ultimately took a break from the product, but now I want to jump in again and try figuring it out, but I have to get use to the new setup as things are rearranged
Here's a render of the Puma with LAMH Fur.
Your puma looks great! I confess the faces/heads of some of the cats don't look right to me, but this looks good! =-)
I have the full LAMH product but I must admit that I haven't used it yet. I really must get round to trying it out one day.
All of you wonderful show-offs have me even more convinced that I need to get the fur for the cats. Like others, I haven't found the time to learn LAMH, even tho I purchased the full product shortly after it first came out. I agree that there are some oddities in the cats looks (tiny claws, odd face, possible dew claw position), but I still bought it last night. Now if I can just find the time to even download BC2.
A quick(ish) render of the Sabretooth with LAMH fur applied, rendered in DS4.6 using a single Advanced Ambient Light and a single Advanced Spotlight, both set to Hitmode Primitive and the AO Samples set to 48 in order to speed it up (45 minutes or so at 1680x1050 on a Intel Core2 Q8200 and 2.33GHz Quad core with 4Gb of ram, far from cutting edge). I'll try to render it again at higher quality settings if I get a chance for comparison purposes.
Using the latest Beta of the LAMH Player as the previously installed version crashed when trying to save the scene file, not an issue with the beta so far.
The first is a straight render with just a sig added the second is after a bit of quick post work in GIMP2.8

i second that opinion
on the promopics the catfaces do not look like they should to be real
i cannot say why
perhaps to cute

Beautiful job!! I didn't even notice it was one of my bgs at first lol
Is there a way to adjust kitty's expression? Kitties about to pounce should have ears back, mouth open to catch prey an eyes narrowing to focus on their food.
Ok this is not a cat but its my first try at this......I will play more Friday....Thanks Trish
In the Big Cat 2 download, what is the "fur" folder? There are "materials" and then there is "fur". I can't work that one out as I'm not seeing a difference when I apply anything from the "fur" folder. (Which could be my eyes tho) When i look in the surfaces tab for the "eyeball" i see things like "photon material" - what on earth is a photon material?? I've never seen that before! I'm really unhappy with the feet and the teeth - the feet are absolutely GHASTLY and I just cannot believe the toes/feet/pads were considered ready. Combined with the tiny claws, and the teeth that are way too small for a big cat, it's very head scratching
