Yup. I still sell there. Never said I didn't. ;)
that is what I mean for example. I nearly have bought the most of 3D-Age clothes for v4 for example because they are some of the best fitting clothes for v4 with a lot of additional clothes specific morphs and also a lot of textures for these clothes and all products are really great (shoes and hair by other vendors also) so why DAZ never have created such a bunch of clothes with this wide range of versatility and possibilities if business is what DAZ do. I never have found such great clothes here at DAZ that fits so good and have so much additional morphs besides all, really all morphs for v4 not only some. And the same on poses. Never understand why DAZ as creator of V4/M4 has less poses than renderosity for example. If you know my gallery at renderosity you know what I mean on clothes and hair.

Because DAZ is not a "creator," DAZ is a broker. Creators are people like me, Published Artists. Anyone who wants to work with M4 and V4 can certainly do so; DAZ still publishes Gen 4 products when they are quality. Most of us are not choosing to do that. I can't speak for the other PA's, only for myself on why, of course.
have no problem with your strategy and also not with new characters or figures no doubt about that. Have also genesis and genesis 2 female and v6 (the expensive bundle) but I prefer my v4 character :).
What I really like are the products by Jack Tomalin, Stonemason, Flipmode Predatron and DZFire and so on :) and these Forest series.

You can do what ever you want :)
That is not 100% correct, sorry but you can`t use poser figures in ds4 and up like you were able to do in ds3. I have problems and other people have also problems with lost deltas when using more than character for one figure.
By legacy I mean that you can use Poser's own legacy content in current versions of Poser without problem. You can also use DAZ own legacy figures in DS4.x without issues.
As for Poser figures in the current figures in DS, if you are using a non-standard or altered figure such as your Dina character, there may be issues.
I'm not sure what you mean by the lost deltas. Do you mean certain deltas are actually missing or is it cross talk that is screwing things up? During the P4/PPP days, we tried like the dickens to get rid of cross talk. Then along came the idea of super conforming. Which is, in reality, cross talk.
as written in another thread I really would like to transfer my character from v4.2 to g2f but because of the not 100% correct working texture and the "second skin" clothes (they fit, but they fit to good - a t-shirt never follows breasts like a sekond skin for example) I have my concerns that I will do it and until now I do not see getting the original texture of my v4.2 character (natasha elite skin) modified for g2f so it fits 100% correxct and I can do the corrections and fixings on this like I have done on the texture for v4 so the charcter would look the same again.

DIXIE NOT DINA grrrrrrrrr >:-( ;-)
I have no nerve to explain the whole issue of lost deltas again...that thing is closed, I live with the fact that I only can use DIXIE but that doesn`t matter because I like her more than all the other characters out there because she is self made :)
Which convertor? Wardrobe Wizard? XDresser? Clothes Convertor? Auto Fit? Poser's new Fitting Room?
All have their strengths and weaknesses. Short of taking a clothing model into a modeller and doing a manual refit, you will not get a perfect fit from a convertor.
Since you brought up G2Female, I'm going to guess you are referring to Auto Fit. Yes, there are breast issues with it. There is an add on that helps to avoid it. Reality, it's a conversion, it's not going to look like the original.

the clothes converter from v4 to genesis to g2f. Sure the clothes have their morphs furthermore but for example I have made some breast shape at g2f (as v4) and have loaded a t-shirt orginaly made for v4 and converted it and it fits but it fits on the breast that way that it do not look normal (underbreast morph for example) the shirt was liftet under the breast. understandable (have no image of this)
The default texture for Genesis is V4. DAZ provides UV swapping and map transfer if you want to use a texture that isn't V4. There is also the Texture Convertor app and it's add on modules that will allow you convert textures. DS also has a map transfer that will allow you to transfer or convert a map for a supported figure to another supported figure. It's time consuming but it's available.
Remember, DAZ in and of itself as a company does not create the textures. PA create textures. DAZ buys the rights to them (I'm sure it's not as simple as that but I'm trying to be brief) Yes, DAZ did change the default mapping for the G2F to V5 and the G2M to M5 but since the Gen 6 figures are morphs of the Genesis 2 line, AFAIK, you should be able to use V5 textures on any of the females and M5 textures on any of the males. There are also products that will allow you to use your older textures on the newer models with a minimum of fuss.
As for morphs, Kattey has tutorials on how to make morphs in her sig line. Gen X will move morphs from supported figures to Genesis within reason. If you are using an unsupported or non-standard character, the results might not be perfect.
An upgrade to GenX that includes Genesis 2 figures is being worked on.
Conversions are not perfect. V4 is a high poly model. Genesis is a lower ploy model. G2F is higher than Genesis but still lower than V4. While morphs are close but I found the lower poly count tends to make a morph that just isn't quite the same.

v4 is higher than the new figures? that is new to me. well then... . And I have turned my standard v4 (wwg2 which uses the v4 geometry) to a SupD version with more polies and have added the smoothing modifer also so because I thought the new figures are higher and I want to reach them :) Well for my character DIXIE I have also used the badabing shaping tool (a d-former-tool that works incredible great and has a brilliant magnet system) which is nearly equal the shape shift tool for the genesis and genesis 2 figures. Well then I think I will stay at my WWG II
and m4 because I also have six or seven self created characters for m4
That may or may not be true, but is truly confusing when you have to have a list, or have to ask whether or not a morph or clothing set is compatible with one figure or the other. When can we expect the release of the Compatibility for the Generations figures handbook? ;)
The one that will tell us that we can use that product with Gen 2 but it has to be with the female base as well as all of the morph packs, which also needs the such and such plug in and a whole load of other gadgets just to work. Then once you get her started, in order to use any of your content (because you want something more than what is available at the moment) you need this plug in, and that plug in, but they only work to a point and the clothing will not fit completely like the original would. Oh and you need to make her look more realistic, so you need to buy this and that as well.
Yes I realize that the above paragraph is being a little dramatic, but in a way this is how things look to a "nonbeliever". :)
And Genesis was all the rage with Daz before, now all of a sudden, 'eh, it still has its uses" What happened to the best new figure innovation to come along in 3D? *shrugs* I remember the mentality at the time, when arguments were brought up and that one figure did a great job of dividing the community. So I came back and bought into it and was excited about all the new items that I thought would be produced for such a great figure and there is this Gen 2 female figure? Okay, I still like Genesis so I'll stick with that. Then Gen 2 male and what do I see, not much new content for Genesis. I just literally spent all that money for what? To buy out the pc club items, the few genesis items in the marketplace, and then what?
I thought Genesis was going to be the heavyweight of the marketplace at least for a longer time then Gen 4 was. Really couldn't wait to see all of the neat stuff the vendors were going to make for it in the coming years that I could buy.
Not as much as I had hoped to see.
It isn't that the figures are good or bad, it is the fact that now resources have to work one way or the other some work for more then one side but that is becoming less and less likely. The transition period between the new figures has not been long enough IMO, and this has not only made them confusing to deal with but also it has turned some customers away. I think this is one of the bigger problems, not whether the figures are better or worse in people's minds.

That I can sign also. Today you buy that because you think that is great and there will be a lot of products for it, some month later it turns out that this was a dead end and you buy the next generation because you think, boah that is great and there surely will be a lot of products for this new generation and then after a view month...dead end and the next generation...what is the strategy here?
a lot of different figures with less products for each that you may convert with converters to use them on other figures but with not 100% correctness?
While I'm still using Genesis1 and not buying anything for G2, let's not exaggerate the situation -- the gap between G1 and G2 was 2 years, not a couple of months. That was typical before V4 as well -- V4 was the unusual figure to be around for 6 years without a successor.
And in the technology field, 6 years is way too long. Tech changes every 2-3 years otherwise you get left behind.
Edit: It's really more like 18 months.
the thing is, I do not want to judge what figure is better or not, the thing is that one has no chance to find out what is better or not.
DAZ turned from the Gen4 Figures with a large number of products (not only here at DAZ) to Genesis and after a short period of time DAZ turned from Genesis to Genesis 2 Female and Genesis 2 Male and maybe soon to Genesis 3 as it was written here and each time the product line and development for these figures will nearly come to an end and besides that all the characters for the figures with their own for them created products, well who do you think shall decide what to buy and what not, what to try and what not??? And who shall judge what is good and what not? Well then it is said that you can use this converter or that converter or this plug in or that or all so you can use your content on the next generation of figures but you must assume that the result is not 100%. Is this the strategy?
I know that DAZ do business and that they have to make money so they can offer their really good software for free and that is something I really appreciate and that is why I do NOT use Poser because it is much to expensive but I really don`t recognize a strategy right now when it comes to figures and content and customer friendliness in terms of marketplace and products. support is another issue and that is really good, also the products when it comes to landscapes and architecture, most of them really great products no doubt about it but on your figure strategy you must work DAZ.
No, two years, not a short period of time. Probably it seemed that way, because there was a lot of app war fighting ;)
can be but right now v4 is I think the most sold and used 3d figure with the largest content in the 3d world but as written before by someone the product development for gensis comes nearly to an end (like v4 here at DAZ not on other marketplaces) and that after 2 years and who knows when g2f and g2m will come to an end if g3 comes out.
i really like daz, the software, the store and the products and for sure the forums and it was daz that lead me to 3d rendering but to be honest, I have bought g2f and v6 pro bundle but I am not convinced, I was convinced but only for a very short period of time.
"I like this outfit, oh damn it is not for genesis it is for g2f or g2m oh I like that, too but damn, it is not g2f or g2m it is for genesis oh no it is for v6 oh no for v4 for g2f oh no it is for... ah and you need this converter or that converter and you need this plug in and that plug in but you must assume that it isn`t 100% like for the original figure. But it is no problem to use your old v4/m4 content for the new figures use the converters."
that is the point that makes me mad.
productlines and developments are ending just before the get really started, so a customer like me does not know in which to invest money and in which not with the result that I will buy nothing more for the new figures and stay at v4.2 and m4 so long vendors create and sell products on other marketplaces because with v4.2 and m4 I know what I have. If this is business strategy it is a really not so good strategy (friendly said)
@ DAZ_jared, you do know that Studio has never been able to "use" Poser content, that's why we have a PZ3 importer plugin, it has to convert Poser content into a format Studio can use, which usually meant a crippled WM rig, all of which technically means it's no longer Poser content once it's loaded into Studio.
I can understand cosmo71's problem as DS4 doesn't treat Poser content the same as earlier versions did, up to and including DS3.1 they treated Poser figures in a similar way to Poser, in other words a collection of props held together by the bone welds, even saving them as a .DAZ scene kept them as separate props in the data folder.
With DS4 that changed as a figure in it basically needs to be a single entity with a "bolt on" rig, so the PZ3 importer has to convert Poser figures into a crippled version of Genesis.
However it's the saving of these figures in DS4 that's causing problems for some people like cosmo71, for whatever reason saving them as scene/subset/wearable, isn't creating the assets properly in the data/auto_adapted folder, and then DS throws a fit when you try to reload the DUF file, as for some reason it can't find the original files to recreate the missing/corrupt asset files.
I don't have this issue, but then I did learn early on that the "auto_adapted" folder was a major cluster**** waiting to happen, so I now work around that folder rather than in it.
that is in other words like some else has explained it but it nails it, what lead me to the question, whenever it comes to this issue the people at DAZ do not understand the problem and they can`t explain it or have a solution for this.
well I save my figure as scene because it has a shaping deformer tool added called badabing and also some standard clothes and hair styles I use and so I have everything right at hand when loading the scene. I do not know if the badabing shaping tool would also be saved as scene subset or so and I am not sure if this would avoid the problem.
New people are always comming on board and may not be interested in older figure technologies. However, DAZ has not deleted their content database of Gen4 items. They can still be purchased by anyone who wishes. Also, having the largest content database between multiple stores does not make it the best figure. Just means it has a lot of add on content to choose from. Not all it the best either. Lastly, depending on another company to further the technology in their software in order to support your own figure technology designs, desires and dreams is not good for business.
well as written, I do not think that the new figures are really better.
Just to get gens for the new figures costs a lot of money besides the fact even a natural look costs money. sure, i do not use the orignal standard v4.2 but the figure I use (wwg2) has cost a fraction even with morphs++ (which I have needed so or so if original v4.2 or wwgII)
well as written, I do not think that the new figures are really better.
I can see that view as well as I am an avid Aiko3 user and have more for her then any other figure. My V4 and Genesis content combined comes close to what I have for A3. But as much as I love using Aiko3, I can see where the technology in that figure is not as good as some of the technolgy in Genesis or G2F. But no other figure has grown on me as Aiko3 did.

same to me with v4.2 if you have time you can visit my thread and have a look, it is a totally self created character.
