I decided not to buy anything for Genesis 2. The only thing I really want is the new Bot Armor for Genesis 2 female. But I can live with out it.
By legacy I mean that you can use Poser's own legacy content in current versions of Poser without problem. You can also use DAZ own legacy figures in DS4.x without issues.
As for Poser figures in the current figures in DS, if you are using a non-standard or altered figure such as your Dina character, there may be issues.
I'm not sure what you mean by the lost deltas. Do you mean certain deltas are actually missing or is it cross talk that is screwing things up? During the P4/PPP days, we tried like the dickens to get rid of cross talk. Then along came the idea of super conforming. Which is, in reality, cross talk.
DIXIE NOT DINA grrrrrrrrr >:-( ;-)
Apologies on that. It was not meant as an insult.

hey, no problem :) BTW Dina is also a good name, maybe if I am going to create a new character :) "The Adventures of Dina Bait and Dixie Minx" sounds good :)
Dixie, even with the GenX update will not have the same exact look as your V4 because V4 has more polys than Geneis. SubD it there at render time but in the view port, it can be obvious.
You aree also using a custom set of morphs designed for V4. Unless there is a corresponding version for Genesis or the G2Female that you can dial up or set, there is that issue as well.
As for textures, well, most texture artists create textures for the base model. You are using a 3rd party item. Unless the 3rd party or you are willing to take the time to create textures for the non-standard part, you can either skip it or find a work around.
If you go back to even early Micheal 4 textures, you will find that there are some that didn't come with textures for the gens.
I hope you know I'm not picking on you. I've found from long and sometimes hard, experiences that no matter you want something to work out and no matter how hard you bang your head against a wall, it just doesn't work out as you envision. Unfortunately we can imagine much more than the current technology can deliver.
No, two years, not a short period of time. Probably it seemed that way, because there was a lot of app war fighting ;)
It probably seemed shorter because in that time, I'm guessing, there was less content produced for Genesis then for V4 in previous times, because Genesis split the whole market in two. Many (usually Poser-centric) content creators decided to not create items for Genesis and stuck with V4.

Probably not.
I think people get that impression because V4 did go on for 6 years.
But certainly a lot of fighting and misinformation kept people from trying genesis until the end of the two year period, so it would seem that they would have switched so soon if they were late starting with Genesis.
I still Use M4 and V4 as my primary figures and I have just about every Genesis morph there is. I don't like the Genesis 2 line so far, the bases just feel rushed and most of the morph and character products I have seen just look ugly. The bases are lacking in variety and in the shape and flexion movement more so in the male line than female. Genesis had the same problem. So why would I reinvest money in a figure that offers me nothing I am looking for and has all the same problems as the previous line with the added hurdle that I would have to repurchase new versions of the same products I have already had to buy two or three times. No thank you. There are a few products I really do like for Genesis 2 but they do not convert properly to Genesis when using the clones morphs.
well Dixie even as SubD with high bump resolution and with smoothing modifer won`t last long to render most rendertime comes from hair and from reflections and from my shading rate at 0.2 at the latest renders but even then no image of these last releases took more than 45 minutes most are at 30minutes or below. As written depends on the shading rate and the reclections and trans maps because I allways use raytraced with bias at 0.01. so shading rate at 0.2 raytraced shadow with bias at 0.01 most of the time, that cost rendertime but not much. I can live with rendertimes under 45 minutes :)
I have an opposite opinion because I think the Gen4 characters had puffy, unrealistic shapes and you couldn't customize the bodies without having to worry about whether the clothes will fit anymore. I like both the Gen2 bases because they are much better bases to work and morph from than G1, which took a lot of effort to get rid of the androgynous look and vacant stares that they had... then JCM-ing shapes so that they bend properly because everything shared the same weightmap.
well I think I will do also and use genesis and the other figures just for monsters and creatures and so :)
well sure I use a third party figure but this figure use the standard v4 geometry so every texture for v4 fits 100% to that figure and for Dixie I have used natasha elite skin that I have fixed with tan lines, tatoos and some nice little highlights here and there also on the bump map (areola and nipples for example) and on values for diffuse and bump and velvet, but the original skin is made for v4 and fits 100% to the wwg2 but unfortunatelly not to g2f because that has another mesh. It fits 99% the only region where you can see that it is not 100% right is the thigh/crotch/glute area (where all these bodyparts come together)

it is not just that, it is I think also because you have to spent much money just to get gens for genesis and genesis 2 female and male that kept some people aways from using these figures. Even for nipples you have to pay.
I guess if DAZ would offer a figure(s) that from the start on looks real natural and also has morphs for gens (male as female and "real" gens included in the figure geometry not just as add on probs by third parties and with real morphs not just with gen crease for example) then they would really sell there figures. And if they fear to get trouble they can create adult versions and non adult versions so everyone can choose.
you have to buy the v6 pro bundle just to get a gen prob for g2f with just a view morphs and the v6 pro bundle costs 124 Dollar (just for gens???????) I don`t need v6 as figure itself.
the wwg2 for v4.2 I use and that has geometry included gens with morphs plus a conforming inner gen figure with morphs (both seperatly morphable via hip and inner gen figure or together via the figure morphs) just cost 16.50 Dollar, sure you need morphs++, base and maybe elite but that you also need for the original v4.2 so the only additional costs I had for Dixie were 16.50 Dollar plus the cost the for badabing shaping tool at 8 Dollars makes 24 Dollars extra. And I have "real" gens and a shaping tool that is nearly equal to shapeshift but for v4 with a great magnet system for clothes. And the textures for the gens can be fixed quite easily if necessary with every graphic programm that opens jpegs
Probably not.

I don't think gens are that high on some people's priority. I bought the pro packs also to get the hair and clothing as well... which i still used with Gen2. DAZ isn't in the business of porn, which from your post is what you want... so no they leave that up to third parties to do. Still it's good that they give a base that you can work from.
Probably not.

not on all people`s priority but for some and not just a view. I haven`t talked about porn Sir, I have talked about realism. that is a big difference.
I got my bundle for far less than that with the PC club.. and I think it was on sale for that much during christmas... and it's $70 now with the PC membership. If you don't have it, then yeah, you're paying that much.
Still, with that I've seen your multiple posts struggling to get your figure to work, so I'm not seeing the advantages you're trying to say here. Still renderotica has a gens on sale now for about $13 that probably does the same thing yours does... but, since it doesn't use any DAZ UVs you'll probably have to learn texturing to get it to work properly.... which the wwg2 got away with unless they made their UVs from scratch to use that texture (which may not be all that legal).
but I know about the prudishness if it comes to nudity. in some countries you can show in movies how people get beheaded or shot or torn to pieces and blood and gore is no problem, brutal torture is now problem but if there is one nipple shown in the movie then it is evil and must be porn.
Yeah, but let's be honest about what your renders portray. You don't need those morphs if all your doing is showing the gens. That's the difference. Even then, DAZ has always provided the base to work from. It's up to the third party to make products from it.

go to renderosity and look what my renders portray my name there is the same as here, visit my gallery.

I've seen them there. But your renders are only showing the beginning... you're posting the true renders elsewhere... so they're other places, correct? Rendo isn't going to let you go that far with the "realism".

believe what you want that lead to nothing...this conversation is over.

I think so too; because I find it extremely hard to believe that someone will put that much effort into gens... especially the WWG product and not show them.. rendo won't let you, because that's not realism in their book. They won't let you show an "excited" penis.. so with everything WWG does, you're not doing renders showing that on their site.. which makes arguing what the standard V5/V6 gens does a moot point with general renders. If you want that level of morphability, that's what 3rd parties are for.

even showing a male or females gen is no porn at all but that I guess is something you do not understand. the morphs of these probs (v6 pro bundle) are okay and that in whole is not the point here in this thread. this thread is about the figure chaos and the totally confusing figure and character and product offering here at the DAZ store and what you all need on converters and plug ins so you can use your old content.
AND THIS THREAD IS ALSO NO BASHING - JUST A VIEW CRITICAL NOTES
Oh I know the difference. But I also know context when someone speaks of something.
Also I think you also steered the thread off topic to this as well. ;)
I am trying not to bash anything but I just can't help but feel completely unimpressed.

and it is about that DAZ not longer supports third party poser figures like they have done up to DS3.1 from DS4 you have problems if you use such a figure and more then one character and saved these characters in different scenes (known lost delta issue)
but enough for now, I want to do some scenes
For myself, I don't see figure chaos. I see a company trying to keep up with the times. I still see the original Genesis as the best of the bunch IMO but that's just me. I also don't understand the obsession with genitals. Plenty of vendors do materials with genital mats that should be fine for any nude renders. Nothing else is needed for the basic nude renders.
