so cute. :)
oh mann, i saw Sphynx, my mind leaps to sphynxter. :-/
That's what happens when you walk in the street every day on the way to the bus stop. Your mind ends up in the gutter.
I haven't walked anywhere in ages...not even to the mailbox across the street. I want this congestion to go away now.
Dana
I don't walk as much as I need to. I suppose to walk ever day but can't ever get myself to do it cause I'm already in pain. All walking is gonna do is make it worse but they want e to do it to stay limber. I just got some stuff to do yoga, so maybe that will help
Well, it's a fact that movement actually reduces pain and inflammation...to a point.
Dana
ETA: Movement also keeps the joints more "fluid". It actually hurts more to just sit. And I do notice that when I've been in one position for a long time...it actually hurts to start moving. It doesn't even matter if that position was one of rest...like laying on your side in bed. I have to change position every now and then. And when I do, sometimes my knee screams out. And my back. And my neck.

I want to go to the library tomorrow. I think I will be up to it.

I did notice once I'm up and moving for about a week I hurt less, but we work pretty nonstop so its hard to get time to do much of anything. With it being winter I'm not about to go outside and walk. I'll save that for spring and summer

...that's why I ride a bike. Walking for more than a couple blocks begins to put a lot of stress on my hips and back. Standing in one spot for a while becomes excruciating. Sitting for very long also makes me stiff. Have to get up and move around a bit, then when the hips begin to ache, sit down again for a while.
I tried riding a bike and it kills me. Very weird cause I can ride on one of those stationary ones. I can't think of what their called.
time to go out in the cold again. 18F, my knee aches. my toes are puffy.
My back is swollen up. I got a big bulge going from one side to the other. Got the heating pad on now.

Do you have stairs in your house? We live in a raised ranch style house, so we do. Go down and up and down and up the stairs two or three times every now and then. It doesn't seem like much, but it will help.
While on a landing, do some calf stretching and some thigh stretching. That helps, too.
Dana
We do have stairs that I go up and down ever hour or so to use the restroom. My meds make it so I have to go to the bathroom constantly. Even at night I have to get up at least 3 times to go.
...for me it's better than walking as it allows me to keep my joints moving but put a lot less pressure and weight on them . I have those pedal clips so I can also pull up on them as well which helps with extension and take a bit of load off the other leg. Not a racer by no means, I just ride at a steady pace and stay off of busy streets as much as possible.
I re-rigged the gearing to have as smooth a transition as I can get between gears. It's an old mountain bike (before the days of shock absorbers and those weird cantilever frames) so I sit more upright instead of hunched over. I've been told to try one of those recumbent bikes as they are supposed to be more efficient, but you sit way too low so the visibility for both yourself and for motorists being able to see you is terrible. In much of the area of town where I ride there are a number of blind intersections because of parked cars, and on the side streets, a lot of drivers think that nobody will notice them roll through a stop sign.
I would probably "ride" less if I had one of those stationary ones as I like to get somewhere for the effort rather than stay in one place, even if it is just riding for fun.
I have a nice Trek 820 that I've used only twice. I would use it more if I had someone to ride with. The tires are flat but that's only from not being used.

Morning. Heat is getting to me a little I think, going to try to stay indoors today :)
Google ADsense from youtube is going to pay me more money than I expected
a lot more
thought it was $21
is more
Oh yay Wendy, gratz :)
Stationary bikes? :)
Yeah, same here. Stationary bikes don't cause the "impact" shock of road biking to the knees (said my Dr.).
When I was in physical therapy after my spinal fusion surgery I had to ride it for 25 minutes and then lift weights for half hour. I felt pretty good but it's just going down hill again. At a loss of what to do. I can't afford a gym membership so It has to be stuff I can do at home. Regular stretching helps a bit but not enough.
I swim twice a week, no exceptions unless I have a cold. If you can't swim you can buy a polystyrene boogie board and flippers to do laps, works well :)
I was thinking about getting some of those different color bands for around the house
Those are good. They're kind of limited for certain excercises, though. But they're good for a start.

Frank, do you have a shopping mall nearby? Walking 2-3 times a week on level ground, until I get tired got me off the heavy pain meds, and my back rarely hurts now at all. You don't have to overdo it, just leisurely strolling worked for me (and the mall has those nice hard benches to "rest" on). :)
You know what I hate more than Magento™ right now?
Nothing. :-/
Seems to be working OK now :)
...mine is an 1982 Specialized Stumpjumper. Found it at a yard sale for 35$. Put a lot into it to set it up for daily commuting back when I could still bike to work. Kind of a classic now. The road shock doesn't bother me as much as walking does (my back begins to stiffen up badly and both knees and hips begin aching). I used to walk to one of the other nearby markets about a mile away, but by the time I got home would be in a lot of pain. Went back to riding to the one down in the Hawthorne district instead (didn't care to ride my bike to the other one as on occasion I would see broken Krypto locks by the bike racks there).
