Soooo, does DIM work on a system that doesn't have DS installed? For there is no point installing DIM on my render systems, as they are in a separate network, not connected to the internet.... (and they are not going to be....)
Yea same here I never plan on letting someone else mess up my computer only I can do that...lol. Not Microsoft and surly not DAZ. SO... I'll wait till its fixed on Monday no big deal. Not the first time someones teeth got messed up over the weekend .... lol
I can relate to that
But I got DIM installed now on my "download" system.... and got the files that were missing....
(older systems are still good for some use  )

worst come to worst I could do that I guess on one of my computers....
Yea I got it that way. biggest problem I have is sometimes during "updates of Daz studio in the past I have rewritten my Genesis.DUF file. now I don't really want to upgrade it anymore because I modified it myself and when Daz decides to update like that then my work is lost (in some cases I was storing the morph params wrong on my end and if they would have started the DIM thing long ago it wouldn't be an issue it is now for me.....long story( maybe I'll give it a try with the G2 stuff because I havn't touched that yet)
ok now a question.
Its has to be possible to make a script to export the tape measure somehow ;)
Not exactly. The Figure Metrics package is available through Install Manager. Where it isn't available is the Product Library. The situation is the same regardless of platform. The reason for the situation isn't quite that simple, but I'm not going to get into it here until we discuss it in more detail, internally. That discussion has started, but at this point I don't know what anyone else's plans for the weekend are, so I'm not expecting the discussion to move forward until we're back in the office on Monday. In the meantime, obtaining the package through Install Manager is what you will need to do.

So you need the install manager to use/obtain all parts of this product? I have no interest or use for DIM, so that could be an issue since i am looking at this product.
Export the result or export a prepared tape? The latter is done with a wearables preset, as in the Figure Metrics stuff.

No I mean export the results as a spline or something similar for use in other programs? Maybe even an OBj flat plan with the drawing of the result on it?
The best user experience is definitely for customers to use DIM to download and manage their content.
However, this particular product is broken up into several pieces... the plugin itself, a script, and "wearables" or presets that would be considered "content".
DIM easily installs all of these pieces to the correct places. But because of the way the product is packaged, all of those pieces don't show up in the product library.
In order to alleviate this in the short term, the ZIP file is going to be made available so that anyone not using DIM can get all of the pieces.
The downside is that anyone not using DIM will need to be careful about where the respective pieces are installed.
Bought it, installed it, started playing around with it.
Was very very surprised to find out the default neutral-gender height for Genesis is 5' 10". Even more surprised to see that's also the default height for Victoria 5, and that the "smaller" character I'd made for my work was still weighing in at 5' 6".
After promptly setting her to her proper height and body measurements, I noticed something a little odd: Setting the character, saving it, and then loading it in to a new scene results in consistent measurement drift between save/load instances. Workflow listed here for clarity.
1 - Set Height: 61 inches (five-one)
2 - Save character.
3 - Create new scene.
4 - Load character.
5 - Check metrics:
Height: 60.059 inches.
6 - Reset character height: 61 inches.
7 - Repeat Steps 2 - 5 3 times
Height: 60.0X inches each time, different values. In some cases, up to 2 full inches shorter than set.
The same happens for Bust/Waist/Hips on the same character. This also happens on male characters (Set height, 72 inches, get values between 70 and 72.999.
I'm absolutely loving this, don't get me wrong, but this immediately jumped out at me as "Weird."
Otherwise, I know have a happy and scale-appropriate set of characters, who are reveling in their new, proper, heights. :)
Thanks for the info, helps me make an informed buying decision since i am not a DIM user
I don't see how this is really any different from other content. Part of the reason I don't use DIM is for the very reason that stuff is often placed in the wrong location. So I always extract to an empty directory first and them inspect the contents and correct mistakes before applying it to my content library.
Agreed with the DIM comments. I only use it to see what's been updated (on a separate note, why can't we have an "Updated date" as a field in the Product Library like Rendo has?).
I put items in particular directories (and subdirectories), so DIM is just not an option for me to use.

The problem is that the figure Metrics aren't pure content, there are appdata files as well. And the vast majority of DIM packages are correct -- I report any I download that aren't and there are only 2 I know of that haven't been fixed yet.

If the DIM packages are essentially the same as the manual download packages, no they aren't...there is no uniformity as to CASE. And on a system that does care about case, Geometries and geometries ARE NOT the same thing.
There are also many ZIPs where the file structure isn't even an issue of a typo, but simple vendor moronicy. A texture pack belongs in Materials under the parent product and nowhere else. Putting it under People/Figure/Materials/VendorName/TexturePackName or other silly places promoting the vendor's name is simply NOT acceptable.

Ah, good point, I don't know if they've been enforcing uniform case on new stuff, but older products that haven't been updated recently most definitely do not. I'll be sure to bring that up.
Well I've used this now and I must say I am impressed. I've bought other rulers and ruler freebies for both poser and studio (as well as converted a tape measure python script over to Daz. And to me thus far seems pretty accurate as far as heights based on Daz Studios System of measurement (which is the one I went by not Poser's 3 different versions of scaling over the years). I figure at least Daz stayed with there system based on there past figures. To add I love the fact that now I can make my celebrity Characters even more accurate then ever before, So, I again say I am impressed very much and will be using this a lot. Funny thing on my end of this was when I had this Super model type morph I made up and with her I wanted to stretch what was humanly possible with her measurements you know 36 20 36 type thing. Well I found out that her Hips and bust were stretched to that limit but I must have went overboard with her waist because she is at 17.5 inches. (I got to fatten her up a bit)
Is there documentation somewhere? I got it up and running after waiting over the weekend for the missing files, and have started to figure it out. But I don't understand the script file and how it is meant to work, and I can't seem to find any instructions.

AWESOME!!! Thank you!!
I think the documentation on how to use this product needs updating and clarification. Specifically:
1. The clarification on the steps on using this product. E.g. Choose Pose preset, Choose wearable, run figure metrics script etc...
2. How to create and save measures presets for figures without configuration files i.e. V4, M4, V3 etc.
3. The file locations/paths for the plugin. i.e. In Windows AppData goes into roaming folder folder in the user's profile; resource into the DS root directory, etc.
The documentation explains how to use the individual tools, but the user is pretty much left to their own devices to figure out the workflow on how to use and create customizations with the plugin.
Hello,
Has the non-DIM version been updated yet? I purchased and downloaded it yesterday but I can't find any information about the update in this thread yet. So I don't know if it is the "complete" product or not.
This is pretty disappointing from a users' perspective IMO. I'm struggling to understand the motivation for including a incomplete non-DIM version on the product page without letting customer know it is broken?
I am trying to control my Runtime so I'd like the flexibility to specify where my purchased files go on my system.
Could DAZ please let us know if/when the non-DIM version is updated? It is a desirable product, I've paid for it already, the non-DIM product appears on the product page and would like to know if I can install it yet? And if not now, when? :)
Thanks
ref. DAZ_BHowell post above. Yes the figure metrics is available in a zip file from your account. You still have to run the appropriate measures metrics installer first. Then you must manually install the figure metrics directories/files to their rightful paths: For Windows 8 & probably Win 7; sorry no idea on MAC:
From the figure metrics zip:
1. Copy All files and directories in the Appdata directory (not the directory itself) to your user profile's appdata/roaming directory. The Appdata is a hidden directory so you ill need admin permissions to unhide it by selecting "view hidden directories" in the windows file manager.
2. Extract the content, manifest.dsx, and supplement.dsx folder to the root directory of your DS4.6.2.xx folder.
At least this is how I did it and it seems to be working fine.
I remain curious to know if I'm the only person running in to the measurement-shift issue. Last night it showed up without ever saving/closing any files.
1 - set measurements on figure 1
2 - select different figure to verify measurements
3 - return to figure 1, check measurements
4 - verify measurements are now off (32 inches becomes 31.43 inches, etc)
Very odd!
I mean, it's visually close enough that it won't mess anything up in a render, but it's still a tad strange.
Was it reading 32 inches as a current result, or was that what you had set it to achieve before OKing it?
It's the measurement I set the script to before clicking the "ok" button. This happens on B/W/H measurements most notably (four of the six characters I'm working on are female), and like I said, the differences are so minor as to be unnoticeable at a glance, but the numbers don't lie.
Same thing with heights. Set character A to 5'1", recheck her, she's five-zero-and-one-eighth or (less frequently) five-two. Set character B to 7'2" (yay, Freak 5!), recheck him, he's 6'11.5" to 7'3.124".
And so forth.
Well, I do get this behavior when I change 2 settings simultaniously, if they both influence height;
For instance, on G2F setting height to 165cm and inseam to 75cm and then press accept, the inseam is indeed 75, but the height is 166.06....
I hadn't thought about that, but that's not what I'm doing at all - I'm changing one measurement (in this case, height), verifying the change took, clicking away from the figure, clicking on a completely new figure (or in the case of one-figure-scenes, just clicking empty space, then back) and the height is off.
The same thing happens if I adjust, say, bust measurements (in this case, 32"), click away, come back (31.XXX").
It's seriously not a huge issue, but it's enough of an oddity that my brain is ticking over about it and it has me curious.
I have seen the measurement shift issue when just adjusting a measurement such as height. E.g. put in 6'.2 and after the adjustment it becomes 6'156". My guess is when you are adjusting different measurements that to keep the correct ratio's/proportions with other measurements it has to average out some of the measurements to best fit. Perhaps you are seeing something similar when you verify the adjustments.
Just a guess though...
