    Sakura 8 and Aiko 3

Been trying out some manga/anime styled characters; imo the style doesn't translate well to 3D,

The images are Sakura 8 with Aiko 3. I'm thinking that Sakura 8 would look better with less-stylised skin; it's fine if it's being converted to some sort 2D style drawing.

    Rendered in Blender.

For more realism, I really like Hagar - also rendered in Blender

Unfortunately, removed from the store, J.Cade's Painter's Lights. Although I buy lighting sets like crazy, I seem to return to this set every day.

Couldn't agree more! I just hunted all over the store looking for these again, so I can recommend them to folks... Sad they're no longer there to be purchased. Looks like all of j.cade's stuff is gone...

Here's the documentation page for them (fwiw): http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/22135/start

And a couple renders I've done using them:

I keep buying lights as well...but there's just something about this set... :)

I submitted a ticket a while ago asking DAZ to try and put the Painters Lights back in the store, but nothing came of it so far. The Rembrandt Lights that were released recently do not create the same lovely effects in my view ... I also opened a thread on Painters Lights and possible alternatives, and J. Cade was nice enough to comment there. She said the lights were easily created and gave some hints, but I never managed to recreate anything close to the original set. So I‘d still very much second anyone whishing to see the Painters Lights back in the store!

Definately the Gou Luk bundle since it comes with so much great stuff such as a couple pairs of shoes with lightup options and one's even a comfortable pair of tennis shoes. The hair and makeup are really good too and so is the character

For sci fi stuff the Saurian HD, Aura, and Frontier Outpost are really good

For morphs fit control and its addon are amazing! They open up soooo many different styles and help unclip clothes and when dforcing in timelines too

    Render Doctor

Cause it just saved me a ton of time and more doing thumbnails for an up comming product.

  • I am probably terribly boring. When I like something, it stays liked. https://www.daz3d.com/glamorous-vicki-set-for-victoria-3-0

    Regards,

  • Sakura 8 is an amazing product. She's a stylized figure, yes, but the detail morphs that come with her can be used for any figure. There's some amazing morphs in her package. There are "better" shapes in Genesis 8's product line, but this might be the best overall deal that you can get from a single Genesis 8 figure, IMO. Just read the description, look at the list of shaping presets. Just a stunning amount of work there, and a "must-have" figure for anyone who works in Genesis 8.

I've been messing around with The Fighting Ring. It got criticized in the Kayo thread, but it might be one of the better products from that launch time, IMO. The HDR & arena lighting setup can be pretty useful, I think, and it was totally overlooked. The only way this could've been a better product would be to include "head dent" morphs for the steel chairs (BAH GAWD, KING), but that shouldn't be too hard to do with deformers.

    Wufei HD for G8M

he's the answer to my year long waiting!

not only is he, imho, one of the best Asian male figures up to now anyways just by himself, but for years i've been trying to recreate my fav manga character Liu Fei Long - my alter ego - and i never managed, was never happy with the results, despite a good pool of Asian males from G2 to G8 plus a couple of additional ethnic morphs... (ok, i really suck at creating characters resembling to someone).
and now with Wufei, whoops, a couple of changes here & there (for resemblance because per say, Wufei is perfect), the appropriate kitbash clothing (there are fabulous chines-y outfits but i can't do dForce, *sob*), and finally, my Fei Long can enter the world of fan art. yay!

    thank you @Mousso <3

My favourite product is the one in the promo - any promo any time - that isn't named.  So I can't buy it.  GREAT marketing strategy.

  • Currently "Content Wizard" for re-installing stuff bought elsewhere and adding meta-data to it.
And once content is installed "Look at Me I & II". Use it in almost every second render.

I'll do another one of those "not really a product" favorite products and say the strand based hair tools (tbf I did buy garibaldi back in the day and it was also one of my favorite purchases)

It can make me pull out my hair sometimes with how much memory it uses, but pre Iray update I was exporting out 100k obj files and using those so this is so much easier

It also helps my buying habits, as one of my criteria is now "is this something I can just make myself" so I only really need to buy hair if it has features I can't replicate (pretty much braids and bangs)

With the inclusion of Iray RTX 2020.0.0 in DS in April, hopefully the new fiber primitve support (curve based hair without tesselation) will lead to making it less resource intensive. I know I've got a couple projects that have been put on hold for the same reason.

I wonder if this will make all the dForce hair currently in the store obsolete.

For me the main snag of dForce hair is not the simulation time, but the huge amount memory needed, plus the massive bloat of the saved scene file. Hopefully spline based hair will improve this.

I don't know, but the hair has to be processed right now for Iray - dForce hair, and strand based hair, are polylines which have to be given extent for Iray, as I recall - so i would think that if the Iray fibres can take polylines then it would just be an adjustment to the translation process. But of course I don't know for certain, or anything approaching that.

Put it into the search without the blank and you should see the whole kit and kaboodle: https://www.daz3d.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=ultrascenery

The product itself is here: https://www.daz3d.com/ultrascenery--realistic-landscape-system
    The rest are add-ons.

guessing it was superseded by Look at Me II

My favorite tool is Content Wizard - https://www.daz3d.com/content-wizard

    Character is Bethany 7 - https://www.daz3d.com/bethany-7

Outfit would be the Iron Fire Outfit - https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-iron-fire-outfit-and-weapons-for-genesis-8-males

And Scene is Urban Future 7 - https://www.daz3d.com/urban-future-7

Sakura 8 for me, she litters my gallery with cuteness!  cheeky   ...and Fabiana's light sets are a pretty common go-to, as well.

somehow, this sucks - if i want to make a printout with images/thumbs of all my owned products in the store (and this one is not 200 years old like antiquated M3 stuff or sth!), taking it completely out means i won't see it in my printout. they should leave the product pages and just deactivate the cart/fav functions. i think rendo does sth like that.
or maybe i just want to read the product's blurb, which is not necessarily the same as the readme (or is it?)
and i dunno, if this is an issue about storage room - don't tell me anyone still looks at those 200 years old products???? i guess those who work with/like those old figures probably have all the gear they want for them - after all they had like 20 years to buy the stuff - and nobody new at DS will ever work with M3/V3 or super old props/environments that are not iray and look like.. well, 20 years old 3d...

  • I've just watched the tutorial on creating Daz characters in Blender by SickleYield https://www.daz3d.com/how-to-create-a-new-custom-daz-studio-character

Brilliant, so inspired now! Makes me appreciate the Daz platform more too and the work done by the artists.

Done in 2018 so Blender has changed quite a bit, but most of it is still very relevant.

If you go to your account and then product library, you should be able to find the main image of each product still there.  You can also look in the readmes on the Wiki

My one is ManFriday's Mesh-Grabber https://www.daz3d.com/mesh-grabber. I use that on almost all poke throughs now and to adjust clothing to the character. I will also duplicate the clothing and use mesh-grabber to simulate dforce like finishes if the product is unfriendly to dforce for each pose.

My honorable mention is JavierMicheal's JM Proper Emissive Lights with a Ghost Light Shader applied https://www.daz3d.com/jm-proper-emissive-lights and https://www.daz3d.com/iray-ghost-light-kit-2. I use this product on every render. The attached camera makes it easy to point the mesh light and the ghost light shader makes it invisible in the render. Lately I have attched the camera to the head and sized the ring light to apply a light to the character's face only. I have this saved as a wearable preset. I found this is easier then trying to light the entire scene so the face is easily seen. I just illuminate the face and maybe the shoulders to give the look of a top-down light and this gets raid of the hard shadows or darkened face that happens with poorly lighted rooms or outdoor scenes. You can also use the attached camera now as a POV camera if you turn it around 180 degrees.
