I think you did a particularly nice job on the hand with on the sink. It looked quite natural. Although my character was a bit taller I just raised the sink a bit to compensate.
Yes, I liked that best too after being frustated that the hand didn't have the flexibility to grip the sink edge like I wanted it short of just luckily worked when I decided to just vaguely drape it. The hand holding the razor was a problem. I held a razor the way I shave and the hand would not bend that way. I had to turn off limits on some of the hand joints to get it to get close to a realistic pose. Out of curiousity did that pose when you applied asked you anything about limits? On my future poses I will use photos as the back, hips, and other joints I wasn't sure 100% about from memory. I need to start deciding where to plant the feet and then pin them there - I think DAZ Studio allows that - and then the rest of the posing process will be much, much easier.
If I am going to get serious about pose sets, and I want to because I want to create animations, then I need to find a accurate source regarding the ranges of flexibility for all the human joints and change my G8M & G8F to have those limits by default. I may need to add bones to the feet / hands too although that's probably not advisable because it breaks my ability to share the poses so I guess I'll skip that part.
My guys have limits turned off by default but I did not get the error when I did the pose. I was not successful at getting the razor to pose when using the provided pose.....
but I wasn't able to save a pose for the razor when I did mine either. It seems to want to be down near the floor somehwere. I'm going to try it again tomorrow. Maybe I'm doing something funky.
I liked the added cameras, and the fact that you provided an over the shoulder camera was a great touch. Its nice to get a good camera angle for the mirror.
About the only thing I might suggest is for the neck and head bends... Use pose controls. For some reason they look more natural. . I found that out the hard way, and Barbult suggested it, and I do agree it looks better... Other than that! Great job.
Hmmm, I have avoided Pose Controls but will use them for me next poses. It is based on how I shave but I don't get a good view on how my back, neck and hips and such are bent so I will have to find pictures because I was wanting to make an entire set.
I used the DAZ 3D 'Shaving Kit' product. It's a Poser format product and is located in Poser Formats/Library/Props/Shaving Kit/DisposableRazor.pp2
It's the only one I have. If you load that one the pose razor preset works. Since I haven't turn off limits I get the limits warning on the G8M pose.
I guess in the future when I do these DAZ poses if it's not a modern DAZ format style product I should just make a model myself and include it as part of the pose set.
Yeah, I avoided pose controls for a long time but there are a few natural movements the dials can't replicate I found. The neck muscles for some reason and the head. I used to abstain, but found you can't really duplicate that well with the controls. So I do my thing and bake it.
I'm going to try the razor again. I have the same set which is what I used in my scene. I did try saving it as a pose when I made the set initially, which was my first inclination, but it didn't retain the pose I wonder if its because its a prop that wants to parent? The only props I've ever been to use were ones that people made.... Someone made a deoderant stick and I was able to make a pose for it. But I'm stumped as to why the razor isn't functioning as a posable item. But I confess I don't know everything about posebuilding so maybe I'm doing it wrong.
I missed the men's pinup poses set here. https://www.daz3d.com/real-pinup-poses-and-lights-for-genesis-8-males
Very strange, because I usually see all the new male releases, but that got right past me. It's a nice combination of poses and backgrounds. I found the lighting a bit dark for what I needed it for but that's easily fixed. I recommend it. Good set of men's poses and props.
When you load that disposable razor from the original pp2 preset it will parent to the right hand and my preset just changes it to the left hand appropriate to the way his hand is held.
I did search for shaving videos and I can see that a lot of men in pictures & videos on the internet are unrealistically sloppy and don't lean over the sink when they shave. What a mess on the floor they'll make. But hey, they are not unattractively hunched like dorks over the sink but instead standing tall and proud like proud & pretty male models. I will still redo how those pictures are though like the internet examples.
I missed that product too but I've been missing alot of them lately. I am too focused on Girl 8 & Guy 8 & other toons for Genesis 8. Also, I'm working on finishing buying all the old 3DU toon animals, but i'm waiting til March Madness sales to try & make inroads on that list.
I think guy 8 has great poses. I converted all the ones from gen7 to gen8 because I thought they were great. Lots of movement and life in them. A lot of gen 8 poses are of the character standing but not too much going on. So I make sure to buy guy when he comes out even if I dont use the character.
If anyone gets the muscularity morphs let me know how you like them. They look good to me. Also if someone could check the teeth with it dialed in that would be nice.
I’m interested in images where a character depicted in the foreground is experiencing a memory, flashback or past experience depicted in the background or separated by a visual element like lightning or fire etc. Has anyone attempted to do a picture with separate renders composited together as to represent a memory or a flashback or illusion? Ive seen it a lot in comics and book covers but I find the challenge interesting. Hogarth did this well so I included two examples from tarzan... but I’ve been thinking of ways this might make a visual impact in a 3d render
You might try compositing a extremely vignetted iRay render in the background of a normal iRay render with enough alpha channel in the backgroup or composite pwGhost or pwEffects renders into a regular iRay render. Done correctly I think that might be a more modern method to make visually appealing comics than the old 31 pages of panels.
Thanks. =-)
I think your biggest challenge is going to be blending the two together seemlessly. You can probably acheive that by using masks and painting away edges where they meet on a very low visibility strength. And then maybe overlay a unifiying color/texture over the whole thing to make it cohesive, and play with the opacity on that. Although I am pretty sure that your mastery of post work is way better than mine lol. An interesting challenge indeed.
There are filters which should make this process easier... filter forge has several . You could also do one part monotone and the rest color so as to illustrate the vividness of a dream.
I was just curious if anyone has attempted to render a sequence like this and compose it. I’m fairly confident I won’t have an issue just the hard part will be thinking of an appropriate concept and make it work altogether.
Well you could make like that 'Brain Cannister' that you've used in various forms to show like dreamy memories of the past that were Boyd's in it.
Yes, Boyd is kind of lonely in his tank. Even as gregarious as he is, and his numerous work and business relationships, its tough to make friends when you are a tanked brain let alone get a boyfriend. He's pretty much given up on having any sort of relationship when Owen comes along, outside of work.
So I'm sure he spends a fair amount of time daydreaming, doing the future equivalent of virtual realtiy and videogames. He works as well, as he has multiple degrees, and does robotics and designs drones. So It would be appropriate for him to dream, and think and daydream from his tank.
Owen is the first person who treats him like a human being, and Boyd loves him for it.
Boyd's underwear are part of a texture expansion made by sf-design over on Rendo.
Unfortunately for me, I should've dialed out some of those hidden parameters on the waistband before rendering but I can't always remember to do that. Boyd's muscularity and Owen's as well wreak havoc on the waists of pants and underwear.
Been busy surfing through the last couple of pages, it's really annoying they aren't fixing those bugs. I really like your Edge render, and no kidding, it is really complicated! The underwater bedroom looks interesting.

the last survivor outfit is the best outfit I’ve seen in a while. Lots of nice details including cowboy boots and I love that shirt collar
That is absolutely gorgeous lighting.
Thanks. I admit to being mostly a fake lighter these days. One good pass with some decent light and then off to fix it all in post work and make it pretty!
Okay here are the two dforced outfits recently released. Owen (Sarge) is wearing the Dforce informal suit and Boyd has the Dforce Casual suit. I changed Owen's shirt and thought it was a dark blue shader- but ended up with stripes. I decided to live with it since it would look snazy under the jacket he is holding, even if the cuffs don't go the same direction of the fabric.
I'm not sure what Owen is unhappy about, but he seems to be looking at Boyd in a uncertain manner. Boyd's innocent expression is proving difficult to read..
Unfortuantely this render caused my computer to crash daz about 4 times so I decided to move on.
My experience with dforce here was not great. There was a fair mount of clipping. I had to hid bodyparts. Boyd's original shoes that came with the set rendered oddly. I finally replaced them. The cuff of his pants dforced right into the top of the shoe. Owen's left collar looked odd and Boyd's coat dforced into his thigh. Owen's pants are so lacking in detail I left them black and dark so you couldn't see it. but I'm not even sure how he gets in them.
I had some success dforcing the coat onto Owen's left hand.
My guess is that the clipping is what caused your crashing. Dforce does not like it when things cut into each other at all. I've shifted things the tiniest bit out of pose to keep it from doing that but sometimes, it ruins the whole pose.
Lately Studio has been crashing more on me. The folks in tech support forum say studio is running out of memory..but I honestly have rendered more complex scenes than the one above scores of times and it does fine.
All my problems started really after the new windows update and the latest versions of DAZ studio. One or the other or both has proven to be very difficult for my machine to handle. I honestly don't get why DAZ would even try to render a scene it couldn't handle memory wise- seems like it should warn you.
At any rate I admit I’m sort of disappointed in dforce. It takes too much time to get only okay results. It would be easier to use conforming cloth with some morphs I think.
I believe it's because DS says render this, but doesn't know how much memory Iray will consume in the process, so there's no practical way to give a prior warning. That's why the Iray Memory Assistant can't give accurate numbers.
Thanks. I'm not sure what to do.... I'm trying to increase my machine's virtual memory right now. But I have 64 GB of ram and 8 video ram. I can safely up it 1.5 percent so did that and doing a test render.
It should be able to handle the image above which is pretty uncomplicated, especailly with the images I've done in the past....
the thing is I set my machine up to render and head off to work. When I return I find it has crashed in batch mode and oddly it usually has a nearly complete image on the scene. The batch mode has no way to detect Daz has been unable to continue so it has say several hours with an error on the screen..
this is all fairly new behavior. I don’t know
Owen and Boyd go undercover at a Senior Care facilitiy to bust a.... Robotic crime racket which is Boyd's job after the war. And we get a glimpse of what the boys might look like- were they actually to age.
Owen's cane is quite cool and came with patient x for genesis 2 female. It has some emissive textures.
OMG that's hysterical and creative. What a great idea and very well executed.
Hah thanks. I bought Zev's aging morphs and wanted to try them. Owen doesn't really age physically any longer so its all a disguise.
Boyd ages slower .. But he has a transfer policy. So if he dies, his brain goes into a new younger body. Most government agents have it. It is one of the perks for his line of work.
64GB of RAM do a CPU render only and optimize for speed. It's very unlikely to crash which point of out of ram on the nVidia video card. If it still crashes even on a CPU render with 64 GB then you should file a ticket with DAZ 3D.
I will get crashes too when I try to dForce and a scene is very complicated and I forget to hide all things not directly relevant to the cloth being simulated.
