@vwrangler I'm having trouble wtih the quote feature working for me so I'm not going to use quotes. For whatever reason it won't turn off or unqote. Sorry

I agree. Llord of the flies is odd reference. Either a demon or a book reference. Either way if I were a PA who that was in this sale I would be surprised to have my creation labeled that. If it is referring to the boysih figure released today, that's sad. I think he's very cool and his skins are lovely- although personally, he's too young for me to have much use for. I like a mature look in my characters, but the alien skins are amazing.

But I did laugh, when I read your intial post I Thought you said the cyborg had that many gen textures. I was going... What.....

@ICedragon art. The filter is pretty cool, especially when you can alter it. I think images without too much going on in the background really look the best.

I tried the Comic Book Filter you posted the link for. It is pretty neat!  Thanks. This is the comic version of an image I just completed (original is in my gallery.).

That looks great! so far, that is the best comic filter I've found. For some reason most don't look too good.

When I saw the underwater bedroom set at Reno, I knew I had to have it. For some reason I love bedrooms and own nearly all here at DAZ.  I also like underwater scenery. It's basically a large room with some decent lighting, and a rudimentary bed, pillows and furniture.   I used a water backdrop and the wind chimes from the beach pod which I've always thought were cool but never had much use for. Yeah, don't ask me why there are wind chimes underwater but maybe the acoustics are interesting down there.

Boyd has a bit of a fear of water, so it says a lot that he's going to an underwater hotel with Owen to make him happy.

Unfortunately this scene made me wonder a bit about the texture I used for Boyds's arms. It seems... Different than the rest of him. Its both smoother and slighly yellower in color. I checked the skin settings and pretty sure they are all alike. It is possibly an effect of the angle of the light- I hope.

Is that a bed outside in the water? If it were a reflection, I would expect to see Owen and Boyd reflected.Or maybe they are just out of range.

No, the bed is in the room. They are out of range for some reason perhaps they are on the very edge of the bed and the bed is pretty big and showing the top section. The glass curves all around about half the room so its kind of a big window.

It is a nice image. I like the way you put the cast off clothes on the bed underneath them. It adds a touch of extra realism.

I see the yellowness in the arm too, maybe it is reflecting yellow from somewhere off camera?

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,669

Yeah, I couldnt figure it out. All the lights were blue. I'm going to be on the watch for it, because it does look like the settings of the arm are off slightly especailly in comparison to the legs, but its also possible those are in shadow. I haven't noticed it in Boyd's other renders.

I'm going to do a couple shaving renders. If anyone wants the poses let me know. Its going to be for a taller guy and a shorter guy.... Well.. Because...... I'm making them for me. HAR.

If you have the Deco Bathroom & Deco Mirrors I have a scene setup you can have of a shaving in the mirror with the camera posed over one shoulder.

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,669

Oh that is cool, thanks. I do appear to have the bathroom but sadly not the mirror set. crying

I seemed to have deleting it but I will put it together again but use the original supplied mirror as it was a decent pose & scene. I upload it sometime tomorrow, it is late here.

Well I've loaded the iRay South Beach Deco Bathroom Preload and although the walls are there they don't have surfaces!

I will need to load the Poser version & convert to iRay. I will also file a ticket, but tomorrow.

If you use photoshop there is a good layer style I recommended earlier in the thread with the liquid set when I was talking about Owen's ice pop. There is one called milk that works great for shaving cream. (I'm not sure why its called milk actually, because its quite a bit more solid than that) .I recommend removing the bevel so it doesn't have a strong shadow. You can layer that on top of a regular white soft brush layer for some extra 3-dimensionality.

You might want to redownload the Classic Deco Eclectic sets. Ive got that, and the textures load. It's the wrong shader setup -- the Iray textures load with Daz Studio Default -- but the textures definitely load. They updated the set to fix that issue back in March 2017, it looks like. (The Classic Deco Eclectic sets also have maybe the most ferociously nested structure I've seen in a while.)

OK, thanks. I will try that before writing a ticket. Until then I loaded the Poser set instead and just applied the supplied iray materials afterwards.

The bones in the hands are like trying to play a piano with a sponge mop. All the major flexibility is the palm is missing. I can't create a proper grip on the edge of the sink or, eventually, with a safety razor. I will have to fake grips that look OK but aren't typical. Disappointing.

Yeah, the thumb is difficult to move to do the pincer of holding the razor in a convincing way. The safety razor I chose had the wide yaw which made it very difficult to move. I think the layer style does a good job with shaving cream. I am thinkin of ditching Boyd's sideburns though. I don't always remember to photoshop the transition area and they are longer than the scalp which looks funny if I don't.

But I guess Boyd can get plenty of practice.

I think I will try a pose where Boyd is shaving him from behind in front of a mirror. I find couples poses like that rather tough, buy I'm game for trying.

That looks good. I am primering 5 doors, a hallway, and ceilings in my house so I'm going to take longer than I thought to finish the pose I'm making. I've got it mostly in place & correct already. I just have to place the safety razor in his hand and pose it. The sink fixtures though are rendering like they are lights! I will have to replace with the DAZ UberiRay chrome material preset.

I will not apply or postwork shaving cream foam though, although I was tempted to model some in Blender, because I'm not sure how I should package it for sharing although truthfully in my search for the DAZ 3D shaving kit I bought in my runtime & the failure of DAZ Studio to find it when I search tells me DAZ 3D itself is not that great at packaging their products either. I need to get good at such things and add metadata for catorgorization and search. The scene & the poses (razor & man) though I know how to share easily enough though.

Problem: if your character is taller or shorter than default G8M his left hand won't be resting on the sink edge. That's were it would be nice if DAZ Studio's posing system let me click & make an X on the sink ledge where I wanted and one on the palm of his hand and tell DAZ Studio - make those 2 Xs meet.

Good things take time. Have fun.

I wish they would make some decent shaving cream props. There are body foam props for G3F and I've used them before but there is shadow and they are placed to be sexy on a lady, but not neccessarily for a man. Ooh... Also wet hair with foam might be interesting too.

The shaving kit is essentially okay, and just needs new materials and better fit, plus hand poses. Holding a razor is tricky and while the prop has autofit for an early character I found it more of a hindrance than a help since it was far off where G8M would use it. Also a can of shaving cream wouldn't be amiss and a deoderant stick.

I do agree that there needs to be a better posing system to allow for height variances. Couples poses seem designed specifically (for example) for characters of similar heights but become whackadoodle when you make one partner 6 inches shorter.

Here's another attempt at Shaving. Poor Boyd gets to do all the work, but he doesn't mind. And I'm sure he more than one ulterior motive!

Tall guys do get to do all the work in posing. If I reversed positions with the characters I'd have to have have owen stand on a stool or reach under to do it all or have Boyd leaning on the counter of the sink!

I was kind of disappointed in that cast. It looks like a glove. But could not autofit the m4/v4 one without massive distortion. The shaving cream can texture did not apply, leaving me to rely on shaders by Mec4d again. Thank goodness for her excellent sets.

Posing and expression are all mine. =-)

Owen does have a significant issue with letting go of things and letting other people help him sometimes. He's used to being the one doing the heavy lifting and looking out for people.  Unfortunately, or fortunately for him, Boyd is proving more than his match in that respect.

OK, I put the pose for the G8M & the razor in a zip file. I couldn't get the lighting to my satisfaction though. I always have trouble with indoor lighting. It always turns out underlit & bland if I use emissive light.

I tried to keep products used to a minimum. I used the 1st set of Ghost Lights, Genesis 8 Starter Essentials, South Beach Deco Bathroom, and Shaving Kit so only the Genesis 8 Starter Essentials is free.

The example renders are of the same pose but from different cameras.

Just unzip & drop the scene folder where you keep your scenes & the Presets folder where you keep you homemade Presets.

For those interested, I've uploaded the scene file for the last shaving pic featuring two Michael 8's. You'll need to make one of your men shorter to make the shaved person's pose really work. They are free to use for commercial use like all my free stuff. Have fun.

Nonesuch: I am messing around with your pose and saved scene now. For some reason the materials of the scene did not load for me. But the character and his materials did. No matter. Easy enough to reapply the south beach textures. I think this is the first saved file from someone else I've opened on my pc. Its quite fun! Thanks for doing that.

Sorry about the South Beach Deco bathroom being a mess. I loaded the DAZ iRay format version and it was missing it's walls so I instead have to load the DAZ 3D supplied Poser version and manually apply the iRay textures replacing some of the metal textures with DAZ 3D UberiRay textures for Nickel & Frosted Glass. As I haven't done anything to change the location of any of those things relative to the DAZ Content Library root directy that scene should have loaded for you correctly as is saved - that it didn't points to another bug in DAZ Studio 4.10.x i'm afraid. Sorry.

My Scenes directory is in the root folder of my DAZ Content Library folder (same level as the presets). I think most people have their Scenes folder one directory higher. Maybe that is the problem? If so, it is still a bug in DAZ Studio.

I have more poses I will eventually share with you and others but I am trying to build a bigger inventory of useful poses before I share them so I can make a nice package and upload to ShareCG.
