an attempt in Carrara with DCG fog, anything glows and shapelights

decals don't look very nice, not sure what they need

yes lots of map chasing, still not found all the alphas, am on my Win7 on plasma tv, reading text is difficult

wide angle lens just to show more

    Looks good Wendy, thanks.

Sometimes you lose me a little with your terminology. What do you mean by alphas in Carrara? You say maps. Do you mean textures?

Sorry, but I'm really not that technical a user. Thanks

what DAZ studio calls opacity maps

if you look in Carrara they are called alpha

Oh ok. I don't think I have ever messed about with those. I tend to leave that highly technical stuff alone.

Here is my first image, also post processed to brighten it up and add a vignette. I had a real struggle with the resource intensiveness of this product. I had to delete items not visible from the  camera, get rid of the fog, use Scene Optimizer on textures, and render for hours on a 6 GB GPU. The set has great realism, but my GPU is not up to the job, evidently.

The first thing I noticed is when loading the complete environment, eight cameras are loaded. Each camera has it's own fog prop, so eight fog props are loaded as well! I did two 500 sample test renders, one with all eight fog props visible, and one with only the fog prop for the camera I was using. With only the one fog prop visible, the image rendered noticably faster. I didn't add any figures or additional props to the scene, though.

So far, I think this is an awesome environment with a lot of potential. I'm glad I bought it. However, it would have been nice to have some instructions regarding those fog props, especially for new users.

I have a 980Ti 6gb card. I used one of the preset cameras, hid all the rest of the cameras and fog props and rendered. I tend not to use others render settings but use my own instead, so that's what I did. This is 2000 px wide, had no trouble fitting on my video card with no adjustment of image map sizes. I set the denoiser to come on at 100 px and it's a total of 345 pixels (it is a test, after all). It took almost exactly 5 minutes. I think my gfx card can handle it ;).

This might just be my favorite environment outside of a Stonemason set. The attention to detail is phenomenal. I love dirt, cracks, damage...I love WEAR. It's always bugged me that most sets I purchase are so clean that it immediately gives them away as 3D. Even new houses have small imperfections. Great set! :)

I did another export to Carrara this time with all the alpha/opacity maps by using a free iray to 3Delight script by Esemwy on all the surfaces, the paid one in the store might even work better for you @tsarist  as automatic, I had to select everything and every surface

    its here https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/139326/irayto3delight-conversion-script/p1

the lights will be too bright for Carrara, you are better off doing your own

+1 That's one of the things I love about this set, as well as Strangefate's work, and a couple of other PAs - they bring the imperfections and wear and tear that real places and real things have. Like you said, even the newest of items will have a little bit of imperfection. And most of the real world isn't even close to new. Environments that are too clean, too perfect, it's all a dead give away that it's 3D. I hope that we see more environments like this! I love it!

You may have just solved an issue I was having with this set.  It was taking aaaaages to render, on what I would say is a decent spec machine! Even after 6 or 7 minutes it was really grainy and not really usable. And that was without any figures! I shall have another look and try removing the fog props, and see if that helps.

    For reference, my rig is a  Ryzen 9, Win 10 64bit, 64GB RAM, running 2x RTX 2080 TI's in non-SLI mode.

I finally got to play around with this awesome environment today, and used the new character Shizuka who I think is an absolutely incredible character!

Oh my...I completely forgot about Strangefate. OMG yes....excellent detail. I have both the bedroom and the tavern :). I love vendors that go above and beyond on the texture work :) I hope we see more of things like these too! I will always buy them on the spot.
