You need to stay cause we like you and would miss you. We've lost too many friends over the years. Some have come back but not all and they are still missed

AAAAAAAA-MEN!!!! You post cool and interesting stuff, and no complaint thread would be complete without dinosaurs! :ahhh:

I can't get any more software until I get a new laptop.. Vue barely runs, my more complex DS scenes take forever to render, and some of my environments nearly fill up the 8GB of RAM.. le sigh..

Vue10 runs on my laptop but only just barely so. Has some graphical problems, and renders somewhat slowly, lags in the viewport often... But it runs. When working with terrains the 'heightfield gradient' for some reason is positioned horizontally instead of vertically - so that feature is entirely useless (Green = low altitude, White = high)

Desktop as expected doesn't have that problem, and can handle huge scenes just fine.

New software hmm... I just read that MAXON's going to be getting 'Arnold Render' for C4D in the future. Never used it myself since it's always been an Autodesk thing, so I don't know much about it. Digital Tutors has some videos on it though. Next render engine I get would be MentalRay/iRay or Thea though and then that would be it for me. Already have tons and I don't use most of them
(Render engine hoarder here :P )

Just found Octane as a plugin for C4D though. I think I'll stick with Maxwell and Indigo personally :P

@Misty: The lizard you peak of is Digi-I's Tyrannosaurus (Which I luvs so much) with one of Rawn's skin packs on it. :)

@Wooly/Troutface: More dinosaurs heh? I suppose then....
Troutface provides the fish and witty poetry
Fyrre provides the dragons and things
    I provide the dinosaurs? :)

    Or help provide anyway

@Rezca - Vue renders OK, but the lame Intel graphics chip means the viewport is painfully, unusably slow in almost every situation.. urgh. It's just too insufferable, even though DS finds the OpenGL acceleration, it's not good enough for Vue.

Yeah it was a special camera. Let me check which one.

It was this camera Zig's underwater camera not AoA's camera.

I don't see an underwater camera from AoA. What am I missing? I just looked at his(her?) store.

Speaking of scaly buddies to hang out with...

I had this idea I wanted to draw last night, and I quickly went to sketching it out while it was still fresh on my mind - as well as before I lost all motivation to even bother with it.
It was my hydra character and a human character from my imaginary world I'll probably never end up writing about. Actualy is more like the 'fantasy version' of myself, I guess? Little hard to explain really. I talked about it with friends on Skype several times before though. Personality and whatnot was based off mine for the most part, but it's not *me*. Later however I finally ended up developing an animal representation of myself for online things and art, I took my character's name and part of his backstory and used that as the base for it. So they've both got very similar names and traits, but are totally separate individuals. Anyways. First time drawing a human in like years though heh.

Up in the corner is the portrait that largely inspired his design. Before that it was mostly just a character by name and I didn't really have any idea of what he might have looked like (Aside from his er, dragon-y self which I modeled after the ever so handsome Wyvern 2.0 from here. I can relay that bit of history if anyone's interested, but it's still a huge WIP - especially since I'm in the process of rewriting it right now. Found some things that didn't match up with how I decided Shapeshifting magic would work in his/my world, so to have everything 'work' I'd have to either change the rules that govern shapeshifting or re-write his backstory. I went with the latter.)

    I'm bad at most art things in general, but drawing something from my imagination when I can only vaguely vision what it looks like (And something that tends to change with every time I think about it) so this is particularly tough. In my mind, I've only got a vague idea of what his outfit is like, despite me thinking about it a lot. Tends to change a ton too. I'm reeaaaally not good at drawing directly from my imagination ;3;

And in the second pic was the drawing on the hydra's back (Minus the 'diamond' that it's centered inside) Drawing in perspective isn't easy e3e
And urf, so tedious to fix minor pose issues! 3D I'd just go *nudge nudge* and boom it's fixed. >_> Want the hydra's neck to be curving around the person just a bit more and resting its chin on the ground but blah, would mean re-drawing things :B

Ah well, that's why it's still a sketch at this point, so it's easy to change!

Umm... it's showing as $2.79 for Platea Pergo as PC+, around $20 for it at full price, so I'm not sure where your numbers are coming from.

See pic below. Maybe they aren't counted in the "new releases"? This one is $49.95 according to the product page, not even a PC discount. Oh, it's not Plateau, it's Platea. Hmm... The Platea items aren't even showing up in they new releases for me. But the Pergo one is $1.99 for me. I guess they're hiding the new PC+ items from me unless I do a search for them, or click on the link in the PC email.

    Dana

Ha! I forgot the pic! D'uh.

I have not been moved to PC+ yet. Unfortunately for me, even $24 is too much for me right now.

There are two PC offers (well, three including a $oof$ code) - 50% or 60% off Platea if bought with Pergo, and an item for $0.99 if bought with any new item.

Yes. Since he was talking about Jack Tomalin, I assumed he was talking about the Platea stuff. My one complaint is that the Epic Bundle contains the base model, so essentially I have to buy it twice if I want to get the full thing. Of course, even then it's only $24 for that plus (I assume) the $.99 item. Less, if you can use the coupon.

sounds like you actually unnerstand the sales rules

I went ahead and joined the PC+ today, Dana (hey, it would have happened at the end of the month anyway). When I put the Platea in with the new Material set for it, the price for both dropped to about $16. When I used the $5 off coupon from the mailer, it went to just under $11.

Aaye that's how I started into 3D as well - not being good at drawing xD

Saw Cinema 4D, MAX, and etc and was like "Good grief how can people afford that!?"
Then I saw DAZ Studio. As uninterested with it as I am today, it was like that proverbial love at first sight back then. Time went on and I got Carrara 6, but preferred DS over it at the time. More time went on, and I began using Carrara exclusively once I got the hang of it, and that's when I began growing disinterested with DS and a tad annoyed that it was getting all the attention while Carrara and Bryce just sat there collecting dust (I'm guessing the Particle Emitter bug from Carrara 5 is still present?)

Of course, now that I'm focusing on Cinema 4D and Vue, it doesn't really make any difference to me anymore, but I still wish that Carrara could get some needed attention. At this point I don't think it's gonna happen though. Would be fantastic to see Indigo or something for Carrara, but if it ever does come to DAZ, it's gonna be for D|S =/

But yeah. Drawing didn't actually start picking up for me until relatively recently (Few years or so back). Been in 3D much longer. Not really too good at either but hey, it's fun!

My long-term goal is to focus on Vue for real projects (once I get past the OpenGL problems) and DS for Web comics and general silliness. I've been spending my lunch hour learning Wings3D, trying to model a fish (you should see the poor thing, more like CylinderFish). I have a very visual/auditory imagination but darned if I have the skill yet to reproduce 1/1000th of what I can see in my minds eye! :blank:

Fun... Hm... Ya know I actually spoke with the guy that did all the animations for the dinosaurs in that 'Primal Carnage' game, and he said something very similar to me.

That's really the most important thing if you want to get good at this. It has to be fun, because that's the only way you will put enough time into it to get really good at it. Oh and besides take some time to study composition if you haven't (And the principles of animation if you want to animate). It's very helpful :)

Also don't be disheartened because you're not making fast steady progress. Often improvements seem to come in sudden steps. In fact the raptor animation I made for Primal were the first ones I actually thought were any good. Just a year or so before that my animations were sort of terrible XD

Link to the spinosaurus animation of his I love so much http://maccollo.deviantart.com/art/Spinosaurus-walk-cycle-344172722 Since it's an animated image, it'd lag up the page
    Also kinda big too.

    http://maccollo.deviantart.com/gallery/ And that "T.Rex March" animation x___x
    Hah, much talent :)

...get those pains in my shoulders as well as my left elbow a lot.

Last night was somewhat a bust for me as well for it turned out another scene I am working on was corrupted. This time I have no idea how it occurred as after the last session I saved it, cleared it, and shut down the programme normally as I have done thousands of times. Similar error in the logfile as the one that was corrupted when 4.6 locked up on me. Fortunately I had made a backup of the file the last time I worked on it, so only lost a few hours instead of nearly a week's worth of work. Still very disconcerting so I am going to file a bug report. I have enough bad stuff to deal with the way it is, don't need the one thing I do for relaxation to start messing with me.

Good morning/afternoon/evening/night, whenever it is wherever you are!

Wednesday here, so some HUMP DAY COMPLAINTS!

    - Shoulder feels like someone hammered nails into it, oww oww oww
    - Breakfast is a beef stick, milk, and coffee
    - Accomplished more nothing last night, not one Vicky's Diner or Space Tuna scene :long:
    - Forgot to install content, ugh, DIM is running at home right now :blank:
    - Need to win the lottery, sick and tired of writing code

    Non-complaints:

    - Gyro for lunch today"!
    - Should be beautiful weather
    - Got to work early so I can leave early
    - Should be a fairly quiet day

Meh, today is a MEH day. :blank: :blank: :blank:

...get those pains in my shoulders as well as my left elbow a lot.

You, Misty, and myself all need to win the Lotto. We are so totally due.

You can win first, then Misty. If I win I'm tempted to walk off the job and I like my boss too much

I hate it when DS randomly ruins things. I have the habit now of saving every so often with a sequence number, so there's some hope of recovering from disaster. Le sigh. :long: Want beer now.

@Rezca - wow, nice animation he has! Very good sense of weight, I like!

I should fork over for Houdini Indie and become a VFX dude and be done with it.. never going to be able to do that in DS. And Carrara has 5 year old bugs still, le deep sigh. :blank:

Complaint: Get an item for $.99 if you purchase one that costs $32.95. Are they kidding? This is a "deal"? With deals like that, who needs to be robbed?

Jack Tomalin's stuff is always really nice, but someone has forgotten that most of us are hobbyists! And not even an introductory discount.

Well, it's way out of reach for me, that's for sure.

    Which deal is that, Dana?

It's the Plateau stuff...it may be a PC "deal". But those are certainly not PC prices.

    Dana
    Ahh, I see.

Mmm not a good time for posting renders it seems o3o

Or I should just try and post more interesting things x)

Though, I dunno if it's really needed... Wooly(Trout) is back, one of the biggest and best posters here. So why do I need to stick around anymore?

You need to stay cause we like you and would miss you. We've lost too many friends over the years. Some have come back but not all and they are still missed

AAAAAAAA-MEN!!!! You post cool and interesting stuff, and no complaint thread would be complete without dinosaurs! :ahhh:
    ...seconded.

Love the traditional drawings you post. I'm only on the "3D bus" because I no longer can do that anymore.

So much simpler not having to worry about crashes, hardware or software going out of date, not having the right morph package, or waiting forever for a scene to render only to discover one of the characters is floating" above the ground. I really miss that sometimes. Guess it's the painter in me which is why I am not so concerned about creating "photo real" scenes as others are. Heck if I want a photo, I'll just pull out my trusty old 35mm SLR (they still sell film don't they?).

I went ahead and joined the PC+ today, Dana (hey, it would have happened at the end of the month anyway). When I put the Platea in with the new Material set for it, the price for both dropped to about $16. When I used the $5 off coupon from the mailer, it went to just under $11.

And incidentally it is not just a new material set for the Platea set (which is a main store item) it contains extra geometry as well, to give it a whole new look.
