    What is fibermesh?

A quick Google search brings up some various results, if you're really curious about it.

If you want someone here to tell you on the other hand, it could be several things. The fibermesh I know is a plugin/feature of Zbrush that essentially makes 'fibers'. Fiber meshes, hence the name :)
You can make grass, hair, and even linked chainmail vests with it.

Basically I want to know can fibermesh hair follow Genesis like regular hair?

It can be exported as OBJ and turned into Poser/DS hair - and has been. The problem is that in most cases the need to keep the file size manageable means that the hair can look coarse, though I've felt the same about a lot of images of Fibremesh hair in ZBrush where it's presumably still "live" and not baked to OBJ.

It was my understanding that both Garibaldi and Look at my Hair are FiberMesh. Am I wrong?

    Dana

Both of those use curves in 3delight, so they are like (non-baked) Fibremesh in that the bulk of the data is not generated until needed but they are a different system - though LaMH is going to be able to read Fibremesh daat, I think (or may already be able to, I own it but haven't had time to update).

I haven't had the money to get it...I only have the free player. Never tried it yet, but that's another story. :red:

Sam? Toon Sam? Oh, did they make a Genesis version of him? I forget, but it seems to be a vague recollection.

I rather like the new one they did for Dawn, Willow. Really cute. I don't normally go for the toon stuff, but I did get Cookie and Chip. And if I had the money I'd pick up Lil Bit.

    Dana

No Sam is short for Samantha. It is actually Aiko 5 but changed her name to Sam.

    Sam looks good :)

Does she look better with the short hair or the long hair?

she looks a mite butch with the freak hair.

Well, after 2 days of tutorials, playing around, etc. I present...

    CYLINDERFISH! :ahhh:

My first start at a real effort to learn how to model things in an application that doesn't give me a headache. It's nowhere near done, but.. one step at a time! :cheese:

Ok, after subdivision and smoothing, far more fish-like, but sure as heck not low poly... :bug: :bug:

Gotta figure out how to add eyes, they need geometry and not just a texture map.. My First Fish might end up looking kind of.. toon-y..

I redid Sam because she did not have the right body morphs.

Also her pageant runway bikini to show she is actually Samantha.

I need to practice rigging, and making things that morph.

@Trouty: try removing some of the edge loops that travel along the body of the fish... translation: instead of starting with a 32-sided(?) cylinder for his body, use a cube, or a hexagonal cylinder - subdivision makes everything look good, but you gotta start simple (^_^)h. (ffti)

    "toona"... hehe (^n^)..

This is Sam again but she is captive and trying to get loose.

Forgot the image and also need to fix the chains as the pose is meant for V5 and this is A5.

I started out with what I felt was a good count for basic box-type modeling.. ?I might have subdivided one too many times before smoothing.. :red:

It's not as poly-heavy as it could be, about 1400 polys. I'm sensitive to needing enough polys to flex well during rigging (which I have NEVER done), I figured I needed more segments to set up the basic fins, but.. it's a learning experience and I haven't figured out how to just subdivide a portion of the model instead of the whole darn thing! :blank:

Learn mode, all suggestions appreciated! :)

I know of the scaly or fury rule, but the Brute's default textures confuse me as he has nipples.

If it takes over an hour to download when my connection is excellent at the time, then it's huge to me - GB or not. Anything more than 400MB takes quite a while to download when I'm not in my home in the next valley over (snip)

Observation: Genesis Starter Essentials is 410 MB in size.

edit: at least you only need to download it once unless Daz decides to update the files for Daz Studio 4.7 or later.

That file takes 45 minutes to download on my wireless connection. I wish I had an Ethernet cable connected to the router.

Wow! I guess I'm spoiled! I've been getting a little better than 3 MB/second (usually 3.1 to 3.4) from DAZ3D lately. So that file would take no more than 136.6666 seconds...that's a little over two minutes. :gulp:

    Dana

That's the sort of download speeds I can expect when in Ukiah :)
Well, best case speeds anyway. Sometimes it's around 1MB, give or take.

I've got Comcast and a good connection in my room, ethernet cable and etc... Back in the other valley getting a 135kb download is considered 'fast'

Yeah, I have Comcast, too. I"ve seen faster download speeds elsewhere. No matter how fast your connection is, it also depends on the server at the other end of the connection. Some people don't understand that, they think every site should be the same speed because they're paying for the fast connection.

    Dana

I understand that, but sometimes I forget it
Only takes a moment to realize what I'm forgetting :)

Poser update is a 6GB download. Pity me
...ouch. If I tried to DL that at the hotspot, I'd have to leave my notebook online there overnight.
