Appropriate character names are tough. For general side characters, it's easy - I have a book of baby names I bought and I pick a few at random. For fantasy names I go to foreign names, they can sound exotic and still have meaning.

Hero characters, though.. who ever heard of an evil villain called Bob or George? :blank:

At least the Night Wings heroine is Rachel DeLacroix, so no more occult porn novella (lol)! :bug:

More free sammiches and pickles.. omg.. skipping dinner tonight..!

ps. puppy smoochies nice, so are puppy huggles! :)

...in the first Batman film (with Michale Keaton & Jack Nicholson) the Joker's lead henchman as named "Bob".

I agree, good names are tough, especially when you need a lot of ethnic names like I do for my story. I am constantly hitting the Croatian, Serbian, Polish, and Russian name sites for ones that are legitimate, while at the same time not sounding "cliche'".

"The Mary Rose was an early 16th century English carrack or "great ship". Although the pride of the English fleet she accidentally sank during the battle of the Solent, 19 July 1545."
sank accidentally? how does a ship accidentally sink?

i'm starting to not trust wiki-pages for facts.

Ships can, however, be deliberately sunk - called scuttling - so the distinction may have been needed.

...well wonder of wonders. Received notice late yesterday of a contract job that fits my resume pretty well that involves setup and billing for shipping (warehouse, but 100% desk job) which also pays a bit more than my last position (and much more than the one I would be starting next week). The other nice thing it is a 12 month position that would end just when I would become eligible for early SSI retirement so I don't have to be concerned about having to make a "long term commitment" which a lot of employers are asking for these days. I would also be eligible once again for UI for the base 26 weeks.

Found an old SSI statement form several years ago (when they still mailed them to you) and based on what I paid in since I would get about what I was receiving on UI per month, tax exempt. The thing is on SSI I would qualify for other assistance (like rent) programmes I currently cannot benefit from. it wouldn't be a "cushy" lifestyle, but by the same token, I wouldn't have to worry about being on the street anymore.

The rub is the interview would occur while I have to be attending training for the first job. Heavy decision weekend.

Social Security is not taxable unless 1/2 of the Social Security benefits plus the total amount of all other potentially taxable income exceeds $25,000. I keep getting clients with pensions, 401ks, IRAs or stocks who are shocked to find out that 85% of their Social Security is taxed.

...I'd definitely be making less than that even if I made anything off freelance work as I have no retirement accounts, investments, or annuities.

I suspected that might be the case, but wanted to make sure you had all of the relevant facts to make your decision with.

...ugh being sick at work is no fun. Did it way to many times. Our company had a really bogus sick leave policy that actually cost you more (particularly if you were not on the company's health plan) than just gutting it out and going into work anyway.

Basically you had to go into the doctor for an exam and were not compensated for the first two days you were out. Without insurance the mandatory examination alone cost about a days pay by itself. On the medical plan, the copay was 25$ + costs for any tests. A total "lose - lose" for the employee and "win - win" for the company's and HMO's bottom line.

...yikes! Howie just released Harpsburg for Carrara his first urban set inspired by the architecture of Bavaria.

Incredible detail, reminds me a lot of the small town in Baden Staat I lived in back in the 70s.

Well, if 'Bob' the Spirit of Intellect ever ends up in the wrong hands, he'd make a pretty nasty villain.

..back when I lived in Madison, the large flocks of ducks which congregated in the channel between Lake Monona and Lake Mendota each evening would often make it tough to fall asleep with their incessant quacking.

Still not as bad as say a raucous party next door with obnoxious drunks, or living under the approach path to Memphis Airport (where FedEx has it's hub and most flight operations are at night), or having those "cars that go boom" cruise up and down the street until after pub time with their suboofers cranked to "full impulse power" rattling the doors, windows, and nerves.

Hmm, so this thread still is no sticky ???????

(I'll start the day with some extensive complaining, cause this thread stumbled to page 2 !!!)

I'm back from vakation and,, it COULD have been BETTER...
(I dont know,, somehow,, I suppose.)

And now I'm preparing to go fetch my guitar who has spend his time in the hopital cause it needed a bit attention from the guitar doctor (cause he has gone through some, delicate issues of a personal nature,,)

Sigh,, time to confront the drama's of this day in a bold, valiant manner !! :coolmad:
