The nuclear-coolent blue tastes OK, but the store was out, so it was either the sickly yellow or the venomous green. :long:

Houdini Indie is only $199! :ahhh:

Yes is the age of miracles, but the nonprofit TV stations are all closing down here and Blackmagic cameras have been selling real cheap so indi film and TV are suddenly all 2K minimum as producers migrate to OTT and IPTV streaming  Messiah is running a real cheap subscription offer, saw a Lightwave crossgrade sale for $650 :)

Lightwave seems to be struggling, what with C4D, Maya, and now Houdini becoming more "affordable".. even Modo is within reach if I stopped going out for a month (lol)!

Just not sure I really *need* anything else than DS 4.6.. :blank: ... if only DS had particles.. le sigh.

I'm rusted on to LW but would have taken Houdini for a spin if the resolution wasn't limited to HD Video. Don't know of any useful lo budget particle systems around unless you can grab a copy of Carrara on a cover disk or something :)

@Ps1 - for 2D, there's Particle Illusion, which I could grab for I think $400.. but that's a fair amount to spend for just particles. I do have an old copy of VisionLab Studio, a poor mans After Effects, which DOES have a particle system.. but that'd all have to be done in post and getting interaction with the models in the rendering would be a PITA. :blank:

Since this is "just for a hobby" I really don't want to cough up too much, and rendering in HD is fine for me.. if someone actually wants to hire me (gasp!) they can pay for a full copy of Houdini (heh).

Going to have lots of rain today and tomorrow - possibility of localized flooding. Makes me want to dig out my steel toe boots rather than dress sandals. Tropical moisture from the Gulf is rolling over South Texas - could see as much as 2 inches today.

Getting the dog to go outside this morning was a challenge. She absolutely hates wet grass (not that I blame her) and she's so low to the ground that even cut this weekend, it's going to touch her tummy. But while coaxing her out into the grass, I spotted a hummingbird in our backyard. That was cool.

Also, Terre and others in the South West, I hope nothing bad happens from all the rain produced by the remnants of that hurricane.

We had some proper rain today for an hour or so, can only dream of inches of water - will take more if you want to nudge it our way :)

Complaint: Normally Monday is one of my days off. Not this time. I'v got a bug that's trying to take hold so I got too wiped out yesterday to finish work that needs to be completed before tomorrow morning so I went in this morning to finish it. After a few hours I got a call from my hubby saying I needed to come home, he had a serious problem. He wasn't kidding. When your pee is brown with a few blood clots you need to see a doctor immediately! Spent almost three hours in the emergency room. After a CT scan, blood tests and they analyzed the urine sample he brought in they still didn't have an answer. He figures that either he had a single kidney stone and it passed without him realizing it because of his very high pain tolerance (he says he has had a little back pain recently but that isn't unusual for him) or he is having a reaction to the energy drinks I've been getting him recently. He's going to monitor himself and see what happens. After they released him from the hospital I went back to work and finished up the stuff I needed to get done. Loooooooong day for what is supposed to be a day off!

Non-complaint: On the other hand the blood test showed his A1C to be 5.8 (that's in the non-diabetic or "normal" range) and he has "normal" kidney function etc, which is great for someone who got diagnosed as diabetic five years ago with a fasting blood sugar level of 200!

...appropriate Monday rant. Hope everything goes OK . Good news about the blood test.

I'd watch those energy drinks (like Red Bull, Rockstar, Monster etc), many have Taurine which with the added caffeine has been found to cause heart trouble. Several teen deaths have been linked to it.

...well tomorrow begins my return to the working world. Odd hours to start 13;30 - 22:00 so no point in a major shopping trip as I'm not about to cook a full meal after 23:00 at night. Only a 30 min lunch break and nothing but an overpriced mini mart within walking distance so looks like packing in a cold sandwich lunch 5 days a week for the next 6 weeks *bleah*.

Will only be able to do home cooked stuff on the weekends.

Unfortunately the "early" training shift begins before the buses start running out in that area.

Hopefully after the training I'll be put on a more "civil" schedule. Not thrilled with the idea of waiting over 25 min for a bus after 22:00 every night pretty much out in the "boonies".

Congrats on starting the new job!

Bleah on the circumstances, though... :long:

    Best of luck!

...thank you. Fortunately the odd hours are only temporary.

However I discovered the commute is far more "involved" than it should be. If I take the trip planner's "suggested" connections, I have to sit around for nearly 50 minutes before I start. As I mentioned there is literally nothing else out there save for a mini mart gas stop. Going home is just as bad if not worse, for, the "suggested" trip involves not only the 25 min wait, but over a mile walk from the last bus I take to home (after 11:00pm), not something I look forward to after putting in a whole day. Ended up having to "cobble together" my own connections myself to get something to work but it involves three buses each way.

Two of the suggestions from the trip planner that involve a shorter wait after work had me going even further east (about two miles) out of my way, then back west to get home (who programmes these things?).

I'm hoping someone in my session who drives goes in my direction and I can carpool home at least. Even if it's relatively close, it will save time and worry about standing around waiting for buses late at night.

Hopefully once I get my regular schedule, it will sync up with better bus connections.

..just to note, I will not be around much during the weekdays as my schedule precludes hanging out at the hotspot. By the time I will get home they will be closed. The only reason I am on this morning is to figure out my commute. Have to leave in a few, pack up a lunch, and head to the bus stop. So for the next six weeks, most likely I will only be here on weekends and that will be it (unless I hit the Megabucks or Win for Life lotto). Gonna make it hard to enter challenges for GCs as well.

...not walking, however I did mention it could be within biking distance (fairly flat with no major grades to deal with) but I have to scope out the safest route first. Lots of 18 wheelers on the roads out there.

It's looking like it probably was an allergic reaction to some energy drinks he liked the flavor of so the remaining ones are going to be given away and not replaced. We're thinking probably not a kidney stone after all because there is no sign of anything else along those lines.

To help keep arthritis at bay make sure you have plenty of vitamin C in your diet, avoid red meat and eat plenty of oily fish. This includes Sardines, tuna, herring, salmon, trout, pilchard and mackerel.

I admit I love nibbling on sardines, but the smell bothers a lot of people, so... only at home. Le sigh. Sardines in mustard, in olive oil, in spicy sauce.. all good. :)

Gotta cut back on chicken... uurrrppp.. 2 Tums down the hatch. :blank:

Now back to figuring out how to create a procedural texture for an object in Blender.. may have to wait until I can get home and watch a YouTube tutorial. It looks a lot like combining the shader bricks in DS! :bug:

*edit* Gonna need the full Mul SubDragon.. he's the only one I can find that (a) looks pretty darn detailed and (b) has shapes that LOOK LIKE A KICK BUTT KNIGHT EATING DEATH MACHINE! :ahhh: Don't giver me no wussified dragons!
