    SHOPPING SPREE! :ahhh: :ahhh:

Bought 2 bags of whole bean coffee, yum! Then, while trying to find a good source for my glucose test strips, discovered the second-best rated meter (right under mine) had test strips 1/3 of the price of those for my meter :bug: (Freestyle Lite strips, $80 for 50, Bayer Contour Next test strips, $18 for 50).. so it was actually cheaper to buy the new meter AND test strips than just the test strips for my current meter! :bug: So, ordered both of those (lol). THEN.. OMG some of Ron's Brushes in Fastgrab! :gulp: Since I've really been getting into Photoshop, bought two of 'em. :red:

Bank run completed, McNuggets and hot mustard for lunch.. burp! Excuse me... :red:

Sipping a nice hot latte' now..

...Looking at Ron's Explosions however these are .psd layers rather than brushes. so not sure if they would work in Gimp.

I suspect not. ABR support in Gimp was.. ok.. when I used it. I'd say it was risky. :blank:

I thought I read that they are better now, but maybe that's just with brushes. Since I have Photoshop CS2, I don't bother with the Gimp.

    LOL!

Somebody called my government phone saying that I am going to be sued and get waged garnished. What bothers me is that they used my government phone instead of my Virgin Mobile phone. I do not give out my government phone number. Why would they use that number instead of mailing me something or using the correct phone?

Sounds like a scam, using an auto-dialer. Beware!

    Thanks, thought it sounded fishy.

My biggest gripe with Gimp was that it tried to load all my hundreds of brushes into memory, my laptop ran out of RAM, and Gimp crashed! :ahhh: That's why I bought Photoshop Elements and eventually moves to CS2.

I'd get the source and try to fix it, but by the time I get home I don't want to see a compiler any more. :blank:

I had bought it when it first came out. It was actually an upgrade. But that's the last time I could afford to upgrade it. Even the upgrade prices are so expensive. When I was working at COMDEX it didn't matter, I was all set. Not so much anymore. I had to get that special CS2 thing because I upgraded to Windows 7 Pro and had to reinstall everything. It wouldn't install, because they took the verification servers offline for registering it. That's why they made that special version with it's own new serial number. It was supposed to be only for those who actually owned it. That's why I didn't bother trying to get any of the other modules, even though it was tempting to get After Effects and Premiere. But I never owned them, so I resisted the urge.

...exactly why I resisted as well.

Unfortunately I am now without my primary postwork application as I updated to Gimp 2.8.14 and it keeps crashing on startup

It almost finished loading when I got a windows dialogue that says:

A problem caused this progamme to stop working correctly.

Of course it says nothing about what the "problem" is so I have no way to track down the cause. I would have done a screen shot but I have nothing to edit it in..

I always keep previous versions of downloaded software, just for this situation. I can reinstall an older version that I know was working well.

..well I traced the issue to all the Ron's Brushes I had installed under the previous version. Uninstalled them and it opened fine. Reinstalled them and it crashed. Really frustrating as the older version opened fine with them and the new one keeps cashing even though it is supposed to handle abr files better..

Brushes are stashed in a folder which may not have the necessary access permissions ?

...no, I originally installed them using the DIM (fooling it into thinking that the Documents/Gimp2.8/Bushes folder was the correct place) and had no issues either opening the application or seeing the bushes in the UI. I even an several tests to make sure they worked.

I followed the same installation procedure after first uninstalling them, and now Gimp crashes.

In which case the problem may be in GIMP itself. You could drop a note to GIMP's development team via their bug-tracking system for a headsup.

I just decided to drop in couple of bucks to help preserving a really unique horse breed. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/saving-a-uniquely-historic-horse-breed/x/1830785

I think I prolly should make a nice render of them too. So pretty horsies!

...I changed the path slightly and began testing installing each one singly. The ones that seem to crash the startup are:

    Splashes
    Splashes 2
    Waterfalls
    Wings of Water
    Steam and Smoke

The odd and frustrating thing is is all of those installed OK in the older version.

I wouldn't think it was due to some kind of limit as of how many brushes can be loaded for I took out a set of eyebrow brushes, then installed Steam & Smoke again afterwards and it still crashed.

There are ABR file viewers around you could check those files with. Honestly don't know much about compatibility cos I've never used PS :)
