Okay, this the Right Fred Thread, where we talk about all things Fred.
Here's the Fred image from the Product Library:
This lovable guy started as the class clown and became the funniest and most sought-after act in New York City! His humor is based on relatable, everyday struggles, so everyone can't help but laughing when they go to his shows. When he's not working nights, you'll find him writing new material at home or a local cafe or jogging in the trendiest athletic wear.
Fred follows the trend in 8.1 figures... materials for both Male and Female genitalia in one package. Also, Fred comes with a "No Brow" material setting, but he does not come with Fibermesh Eyebrows of his own. (Most of us probably have an extensive library of Fibermesh as it is, so that part isn't a problem.)

Maybe it's my mood today after seeing who we got to finish off the Season Pass... but I had to go science fiction villain with Fred. (So I put the Fred promo in the first position, not this render.)
Et voila.
Fred Harkonnen... my 5-second composition with Fred as the young Vladimir Harkonnen after he's infected with a virus that makes him obese for violating the Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother.
(Fred comes with no-brow option, but no Fibermesh brows. So I borrowed the eyebrows from Cormac for Elios 8, and used the red hair color since Vladimir Harkonnen was known for his red hair.)

If you had a Rancor , he'd be a perfect fit for the trainer guy in Return of the Jedi that runs in after the Rancor gets crushed if you want to go the sci fi route.
for those who have him already, what are your thoughts and opinions of his skin?
Someone in the Season Pass thread mentioned painted-on body hair, so I hope there's also a no-hair option for the torso.
I'd like to see his upper arms better, if anyone feels like showing them clearly. But I do really like his torso shape. I second the hopes for a hair-free torso option.

No "Hairless" option for the Body.
Only "No-Brow" option for the Face, various eye colors, and 2 SSS settings.
Gross. I'm sure I'll still get him, but that's disappointing.

I thought the days of painted on body/face hair on core figures was over.
Well I used his HD and did a close-up. Like him in a beard.
Not a fan. I haven't downloaded him yet but I'll try putting Torment's skin on him and seeing if it looks better.
And no hairless option? Ugh.
Quick render, still a little noisy, but here's a shot of his arm.
Maybe I am the only one who feels this way, but the skin on his face looks really good to me. The amount of variation looks perfect. It's not too flat or too blotchy. It's detailed without needing editing. It doesn't look painted, like a lot of G3s, or like jello, like many G8s. Brooke's skin looks like hard plastic and Jada looks like she is wearing too much blush on her nose. Most of the other pbr skins look kinda dead. But this one seems like an actual improvement over uber.
I feel like I know a lot of cute guys who look like this, and I think it's great.

After converting some Genesis 3 skins to PBR, Fred's skin reminds me of the same PBR settings as Torment or Jazz, if it is nnot a Daz standard for 8.1 PBR skin.
Just talking the numbers, the channels used to populate various maps in the PBR. The maps are different across figures (except maybe the Detail Weights, Normals, and Roughness maps)... but the PBR skin settings seem familiar after monkeying around with them, using Torment as a basis for converting.
I do wonder if PBR allows for more standardization? Or maybe there are fewer PAs adjusting the PBR settings to their lighting rigs?
Looking at even just the base figures in Genesis 3 and 8, and the settings were all over the place between different characters... which is why I liked having a set of standard Iray skin shaders to apply to the texture maps (with many such examples in the Daz store).
Fred looks like he could play a mean trombone in Ten-forward.
He looks like someone I see often on the news and do not like...which kinda makes me want this character now.

Here's my first quick and dirty Fred render.
I checked the store and I can't find this character, is he only for season pass members or will he eventually be available for everyone.
Season Pass members get early access to new core figures. He should be out tonight (i.e. within the hour).
Out of seven products, three are pose sets in the bundle. Not saying anything negative about the poses themselves, they all look nice, but that's an excessive amount in one bundle with so few items. I might pick one set up by itself as I could find a use for something like it, but this bundle is an easy pass as a whole for me.
Is Fred's last promo a reference to I'm Dying Up Here? I loved that show!
Fred is actually heavier than I realized, but with the right hair and pose he still manages to be cute in my book. I really love the way his body looks with a bit of Holt. That mix is possibly the best Dad bod I've seen at Daz.
Yeah, the bundle kinda sucks, but the free G3 bundle (Little Ones for me, which usually isn't included in such sales) made it worthwhile for me. I'm glad Chelsea came out as part of the sale and was NOT part of the bundle.
Well, it's a coherent theme, and everything in the bundle actually fits it. That's doing better than most of the latest attempts.
I like the morph and the hair, and the pose sets actually look like they could be somewhat useful. Not sure about the suit, but I've certainly seens worse.
This might be one where I let it sit in the cart to see what might be in a follow-up bundle tomorrow or Wednesday. We've sometimes seen what looked like deeper discounts for buying both bundles together.
And if not, I'll probably pick up the character and the hair by themselves.
