That turned out well. Memcneil70! I like the glasses and the shoes.

  • I'm going to pass on this bundle.

One question I have is what do DAZ customers do with the content they purchase?  My guess is people use the content for: (a) a personal library, (b) commercial products like book covers, or (c) content for games.  I know I must be missing something so please feel free to share.  I'm not against gender fluid characters, but none of the categories I listed have a huge demand for them.

There is no way you can state that for your first point, you don't know what people have or want in their personal library, but more generally a lack of representation (book covers, games, etc.) doesn't necessarily indicate a lack of demand.

You don't have to use this stuff as gender-fluid.

However, if you are doing comics you can use more or les every character, as a background figure.

Nothing in the store has to be used as marketed. As a matter of fact, it shouldn’t be or it will look too derivative. Every character can be morphed, dialed down, mixed with others. Skin can be used on other characters. All clothes can be kitbashed. The whole fun for me is creating something new with things that may not belong together. Cattytay can have long hair and a Pamela Anderson body if you want. The clothes could be made to look like a Vogue editorial ad or sci-fi futuristic fashion. Ignore Daz marketing. Most of it makes no sense anyway.

So this is Adeeb HD for G8.1M testing out the dForce Signature Style Outfit for G8F.

I loaded the outfit item by item. No apparent problems, used Auto-fit of course. There are two preset loads that I didn't load. The hat was large and I really would have loved a Prop version to pose in his hand.

During the simulation of a dancing pose, the right pant leg edge caught the left shoe edge. I had to use Mesh Grabber to free it. Also the right arm's sleeve of the shirt came through the jacket. Again, Mesh Grabber to the rescue. If I had more time, I would have scrapped that simulation and redone. But this is just to show the outfit can fit a G8M figure.

I also used this color set to be able to see if layers showed through, as they did. There are a group of sliders to help with things and a Document that I should have read first!

    Lovely outfit.

Edit to fix 'left' 'right' mixup.

I know lots of LGBTQIA people that would be interested in Caty as is. I love Caty's face, her body, and her sense of style. She seems like someone I might actually meet (and she is). Her face is interesting and seems very real. Even as a mix, I bet she could add depth to scenes. And like others have said, you don't have to use any of this as it is marketed. You can put the club outfit on a victoria's angel and so on.

As far as all this inclusive content being released lately goes: lots of straight people that just want to see beautiful people would be interested in someone like Rio, who is trans and gorgeous. Peopling your scenes with diversity can make them more interesting- stand out from all the hot white chicks. Want to show a really cool bar scene with interesting characters that come from all walks of life? This kind of content can help with that. Another use for the trans morphs, for example, is to make a feminine version of any male character you have who happens to have a face you really like, or vice versa going from female to male. Or that monster character that only comes for men or women (not both) as is fairly common? You can now make both genders out of that one monster morph. One more: You want to show a family resemblance across sexes/genders? Now you can pretty easily. I'm pretty stoked about all of this.

And last but certainly not least, economically speaking, you have to consider pron. Gender bending, swapped parts, and all sorts of stuff you might not think is popular, is actually pretty huge in some circles, with lots of people both making thier own fantasy content and doing commissions for others.

It's depends on the person and their preferences. I am a straight male and I do personal renders that are to my tastes and I have no interest or need for these types of characters. If I ever get a commision that requires one, I can probably create one from existing morphs and textures. It's obvious reading some of the comments that there are some users that do use these types of characters, so I am happy there is content that caters to their tastes.

wow good job on refitting to M8 :)
For the hat to behave like a prop just unfit it from the figure and you can move it around independently

@Mada, thank you! I did try unfitting the hat, but it would not move at all. I must have done something wrong or missed a step somewhere. I tried moving it up, to the side, even to enlarge it with sliders and it stopped reacting to them completely.

Make sure you have the figure selected in the scene tab for the hat and not just the head :)

I genuinely dont understand how some of the promos make characters look so dry

I just stuck them with the default settings and lit it with an hdri from hdrihaven

Amazing!  Love your renders and I'm surprised you didn't modify the surface settings (you're very good at surfaces too.)
I think it's the makeup settings that look dry, the non-makeup promos look better.
I really like the Catty character, useful "everyday" look rather than idealised, but still on the attractive end of the scale.

Try this.... SELECT HAT... EDIT... FIGURE...  RIGGING... CONVERT FIGURE TO PROP.  I do this quite often.  The moving arrows will be on the floor with this hat but you can still move it where you wish... rotate.. etc... Then PARENT IN PLACE to the head.  :)

I've entered this in the June PC contest.  I hope it's ok to post it here too.  I wanted you all to see how wonderful the dForce Signature Style Outfit for G8F looks on a guy.  I still have lots to learn with dforce.  I never could get the pants to simulate without attaching to the sofa... so I didn't simulate them.  They looked fine as is.

The bundles don't appeal to me... but when I saw the suit I HAD to get it.  I even got the textures which I don't normally buy.

Wow! This looks so good! My first thought was: Is that Luis from Interview with a vampire? I love Luis! That's a great outfit. Wishlisted.

Thanks certaintree38 ... I have to admit.. I got a vampire vibe from Rocco too... Specially with the long hair ;)  Glad you like it.

btw.. with all the discounts I ended up getting the outfit and textures at over 70% off... Hope you can play with the numbers to get them off the wishlist and into your runtime ;)

Wow! Those look amazing! Very realistic!  If I had seen those promos first I would have been more enticed to buy the bundle. But I would definitely only use a partial of the morph. It seems strange to me to use the likeness of a real person. If the sale had worked I would have probably purchased the bundle but now it’s in my wishlist, The outfits look interesting to me too and seem like they’d be fun to kitbash.

if you move middle of the hat to the floor with the hip not the top of the hierarchy before converting prop to figure the arrow will be centered on it.

The istagram presence & this new DAZ 3D character Catty Tay are one & the same. That Instagram photos that look just like Catty look that way because they are renders of Catty.

Thank you @Mada, @Llola_Lane and @WendyLuvsCatz for the advice. When I fully wake up and my render computers are on, I will try all your advice. This has been something I have wanted to conquer.

@j_cade and @Llola_Lane love your renders.

I gotta agree with j cade. Nice textures. Good eyeballs. I don't know if I need her and Brooke, but $14 wasn't too bad.

My only issue/hangup is that the character is based on a real person. I get that we're celebrating a pioneer, but doesn't basing a character on a real person limit use? Book covers and comics have been mentioned, but if I were to create a book cover with this character, wouldn't that cover now stand out as being associated with that real-life person (which isn't necessarily a bad thing)? I may not realize what I'm doing, and the customer/author may not realize it either, but those who purchase the book might. Again, it isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I can see how it could be an issue, no matter who the character is based on if that base is a real person. Just think how the likeness could be used for nefarious purposes...such as potentially associating a real life person with a problematic theme or cause, or simply a theme that real person might not want to be associated with. I dunno, just throwing that angle out there.

Fanart is the only thing I could say that I personally would be comfortable with when using the likeness of a real person. Like, I purchased the Alatariel character and the only thing I would ever dare use her for is 'The Lord of the Rings' fanart. Or a character who is quite obviously the likeness of Kit Harington I would only use for 'A Song of Ice and Fire' or 'Game of Thrones' fanart. Anything else is...yeah...not so much.

And I do appreciate the renders in this thread, as they do flatter the character much moreso than the promo renders. I was not a fan of their skin based on the promos alone, but lighting definitely matters.

Finally had a chance to load Catty, and gotta say that Daz hit a home run for me! Catty is one of the more solid quality products I have purchased at Daz in a while. Great textures, a realistic sculpt that feels different from previous core female characters, solid HD morphs, and load of versatile material / gender / makeup options. I don't mind that Catty is based on a real person since I dial spin / modify all my characters so the end results are usually  not  easy to resemble the exact core character. To be honest, alot of Daz/Poser PA's use real people as inspiration, as well as likeness ie. https://www.daz3d.com/queen-of-desires-hd-for-genesis-8-female. The only way I knew this was based on one specific person was because Daz has a full write up in their promotion.

While I unders6and your personal stance on this, I don't see it as an issue since there are so many ways any user can create a digital likeness of anyone these days and do what they want with it.

I guess at this point I can quote the most quotable Ian Malcom - "Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, that they didn't stop to think if they should." Haha.

Like, just because people can make deepfakes now to falsely represent a real life person, it doesn't mean that they should, or that it's any less nefarious to do so with 3D models. I dunno, that's just my opinion. All I know is I'm glad I'm not anybody of consequence...I honestly feel bad for celebrities in that respect.
