Decent weather. Cold but no rain, no snow, and roads are clear. Went out to take the garbage to the transfer station and then to the drug store to pick up a prescription. Before I left I was using the computer and a message from my UPS popped into the middle of my screen and said that it had experienced an internal error and that I should replace my unit and started beeping weirdly at me. It didn't say battery, it said "unit". Arghhhh..... Just a day or so ago we had a power outage and the UPS performed perfectly and let me shutdown gracefully. I even turned the system back on a couple hours later and did some more work but shut down before the battery died. Then the system sat all night with the power on and the computer off. The UPS should have been charging but now after the scary warning the battery level is depleted. :-(

So, while I was out I went to OfficeMax and got a replacement, paying the retail price of $149 instead of waiting for a sale at Newegg or TigerDirect where I could probably have gotten one for just over $100 if I was patient and waited for the right sale. I could have rigged up something to keep the computers running without an UPS but I've been running on UPS protection for decades and I've gotten used to knowing it's there. It's saved me from power crashes several times. I hate power crashes.

Then I started debugging the old UPS. It passes its diagnostics, and doesn't beep at me anymore. The good news is that it's almost three years old but still has 29 days on the Warrantee! (cool!). I navigated to the APC web service desk and "chat"ed with the foreign dude about my issue. He came to the conclusion that it was working OK and only needed a full recharge. Well, maybe. But as I said it had been charging all last night and should have been fully charged this morning. The only other thing he suggested that I hadn't thought of was to pull out and reseat the battery pack, which I have done. The unit has been charging for about 4 hours now and says it's fully charged but I'll let it charge overnight again and see what happens when I plug some devices into it tomorrow.

If it works I won't feel too guilty about buying a new unit because the old one's battery is almost three years old anyway, but the unit hasn't complained about it yet. New batteries directly from APC are $$$. And since they now package some of them in proprietary cartridges you have to get replacements from them. If this old unit does seem to be working properly and only needs a new battery I'll consider getting a battery when one of my older smaller UPS units craps out.

Well, my old UPS has recharged completely. Or at least it says it's fully charged when running on battery with no devices drawing power from it. Now to see if it keeps providing power when running a computer and monitor.

I checked the APC catalog and found the replacement battery cost for this unit to be about $60 + shipping which I'm sure won't be cheap.

Hump Day, kiss a camel! %-P

New hardware guy is kicking butt, one problem is resolved, three more to go! Excellent progress, no complaints.

Looks like severe storms today and tomorrow.. :shut: I have my umbrella and poncho, but still, strong winds warning will mean a dead umbrella. I lost two umbrellas to the wind last year...

Stuffed with a ham egg and cheese toasted croissant and sipping a double shot Americano.. this week is WAY better than last week.

I still want to know if these .duf files can be read by InterPoserPro hehe. Chances are the answer would be 'No', and the new Runtime layout would probably give IPP some hassle as well (Since it's programmed to use the old Poser layout). Doesn't look like the author is updating it anymore either. Might have to just learn how to rig myself urf, buy models and re-rig them in C4D. :-/

Blargh, re-rigging weightmapped characters would be a screaming pain in the butt! :shut: There should be some way to export the rigged character to some format they have in common... :-S

...bleagh, stupid cold still messing with me. Slept a little better last night but this cough is becoming really annoying. Would like to go out and get some proper meds, but have to go to the market that is further away to get them (the natural one is way overpriced and only has those expensive herbal types which don't do squat for me). However, there's a major threat of rain again today. Last thing I need the way I feel is to get caught in another downpour.

Guess I could take the bus, but that takes at least three times as long as it does to get there on my bike because of lousy connections (and costs an extra 5$ round trip).

May just have to wait until tomorrow as it's supposed to be sunny and 75°. Means having to endure this for another day and night though.

Continued my discussion with the APC chat people. After my tests and their considered opinion, they've declared my unit working OK. :-s So, I guess that's good news, I don't have to send it back to them. I should however, seriously consider getting a new battery. To that end I attempted to use the APC on-line store to buy the battery needed and was boldly told in big red letters that that product is out of stock and that I should consider using one of their resellers. :-s OK, so I pick OfficeMax and go to their web store and discover that they sell the battery for $59 and free delivery. (I do have to pay state sales tax though) but I have to order it online. Hopefully if I get a new battery the UPS unit itself won't completely crap out on me 30 days from now after the warrantee has expired. 8-(

As a side note: I'm listening to Sir Hamilton Harty's Piano Concerto. Heard part of it on the radio a couple weeks ago and ordered the last copy of the CD that Amazon had. I absolutely love parts of it but some parts of it are meh. All in all though it's always exciting for me to discover a new piece that I like but haven't heard and say "where has this been all my life?"

Not sure... If the 'Unimplemented Features' page is still up-to-date (likely is not) the only rigging related point is # Poser 8 New Joint System.
As far as I know, the jump to universally using duf/etc files was recent - and it's unlikely IPP has been updated to read such files. I haven't tried yet though, haven't had the time to go reinstalling it and taking it for a test run on the new Runtime layout and file types. I'm expecting to have a bunch of errors thrown in my face

@TroutFace: I figure that depends on how good D|S's Collada or FBX exporting skills are. Otherwise I'd just try and get at the static OBJ and go from there - though C4D's OBJ import in the version I have um.... Is quite terrible %-P
