Somewhere in one of the threads here I posted a link to the Wikipedia article (I think) about TIFF images. Interesting info.

Despite the huge size of TIFF images I save all my static renders in that format. If I postwork them then I save those results as PSD just because it's Photoshop's default format. And I can tell my originals from my worked files by their type. But, both PSD and TIFF specifications are controlled by Adobe. TIFF can be losslessly compressed but I rarely worry about it.

From the following chart it looks like each pixel in TIFF has 24-bit color data (three 8-bit color channels) or 16Million colors.

thanks, they included png in the chart. 256T ... is that terabytes?

    was just reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDRi_(data_format) :)

I did some work with HDRI but haven't really kept up with it. My cameras are getting lonely. I did do a few complete spherical high definition HDRI images but they are so much work without an automated camera/tripod system that I got to the point where my knees and ankles gave out and I literally couldn't stand up long enough to take all those images needed 32x5= 160 Not to mention the hours of painstaking work to stitch all those images together and establish a decent looking HDRI mapping. It was OK when I was younger and wealthier. Besides, it was yet another technology that was changing faster than I could learn it. I think that's why I've slowed down my computer and photography geekiness and have taken an interest in learning Russian. It keeps my brain humming but the rug isn't getting pulled out from under me every 6 months. Russian doesn't change that fast! I have the rest of my life to try to catch it.

I should not be playing with her at this time of the night. Oh my goodness it is ten thirty pm already. I better go to bed because I work tomorrow.

256T sounds awfully big but what's the cube root of 256T? If it's 64K then yeah, It could be possible, that's 16bit color channels.

Last night.. go out to bar, it's crowded, stayed for 2 beers, came home and chatted online. I used to not mind crowds, but as I've gotten older I'e developed a serious crowd aversion... :blank:

    Oh well...

It's called maturity or enochlophobia I forget which.

I dislike going to dinner with more than two other people. I'm dreading my 50th high school reunion.

Bars are vile places where people talk too loudly, act too weirdly and smell badly. Which is OK if you're on a booty hunt but I'm long past that.

Restaurants are vile places where people talk too loudly, don't control their kids, and the air is full of clanking, clattering, and incompatible smells.

Major amusement parks are vile places where one has to walk too much, stand in line too much, pay too much for fast food, pay too much for the privilege of even getting into the place, and watch kids badger their parents. However there is often a new attraction that I simply must see so I put up with it.

    [snipped]

I hear you about going out, Leather Gryphon. Last time I went out to eat with family, there were about 12 of us. Ten were glued to their cellphones the whole time. I didn't even have mine with me and the other was a young boy who didn't own one. I think my condition can be summed up as old and cranky.

I'm an odd one in that I mostly just shuffle into a corner and try and pretend I'm not there whenever I go out to eat xD
When with family though it's... Well, mostly the same. Quiet and just don't get into the conversations much. When I was younger it wasn't a cellphone but a gameboy or something, but that sorta died off when I was getting into my 17 ~ 19 years. Mostly just was shy and reclusive, unless a topic I was interested in popped up hehe.

Can't stand amusement parks because the thrill rides horrify me, and there's too many people. I like the food sometimes tho, and the nicknack stands :)
Got a realyl cool dragon figurine at one once

I never went to amusement parks very often. We couldn't afford them. I went once or twice during a summer at most, with friends. Not every year and not a lot of years. Their mother paid usually. I loved the fast rides. The Twister, the Scrambler, Tilt-A-Whirl, Roundup, The Whip. I never went on roller coasters, though. We went to Lincoln Park in Westport, MA. The roller coaster was old, noisy, and had gone off the rails once when I was young and the though of that kept me off. I think it was called The Rocket. It was famous, back then. They've since closed, and had a few fires and most of the buildings are gone or are wreckage.

Is for compositing, EXR 2 stores depth as well as colour values for each pixel useful for colour depth cues, for example :). The "deep" part lets you store arbitrary data associated with each pixel :)

My dad is wasting printer paper while he is troubleshooting the printer. The printer will not print black or blue ink. So instead of replacing the ink cartridges, he continues to print his documents while changing print settings. The issue is hardware related. Hopefully the printer itself isn't bad. The printer prints red and yellow ink. We just bought the printer yesterday.

Did you put it through the break in routine? Usually a new printer has to "prime" the cartidges, like priming a water pump. Oh, maybe nobody knows what that means either? Hmm...well, anyway, read the fun manual.

Yes, usually. But this software, like the last one, drops me now and then. When they moved to this one they said that that wouldn't happen anymore. I guess they'll say that about the next one, too. Wasn't there supposed to be a next one? I thought they announced that it would be soon a while back. Then again, soon has never been defined in here.

Dad finally decided to call customer support. Customer support told him to clean the nozzle printer head thing five times. Cleaning nozzle head five times uses a lot of ink. Yes, the printer displayed a message saying that ink levels are low. Thanks for asking DanaTA.

Ok, time for me to play with 3Delight.

..ugh, that scratchy throat I got from getting caught in the downpour manifested itself into a lousy head & chest cold. Slept nearly 11 hours last night/this morning.

Made a big batch of dead bird in red curry to try and burn it out.

On the brighter side of things, really like playing with Iray. Still on the learning curve but coming along a lot faster than Idid with 3DL scripted rendering did (thanks in part to the time I spent with Reality/Lux). Posted my first finished work on the Iray threads. Now working with HDRI and creating a fog effect.

The next version of Daz Studio needs a better, more intuitive shader builder (like Carrara's). Playing with a "tangled web" is not the answer (don't care much for spiders anyway).
