If my computer can handle it, I will definitely get both cats but would love to see one like this (mine smiley)  But it probably would crash my computer... Has anyone tried Zeus with a 1080ti? The DAZ housecat with dForce can crash my computer.

    Really beautiful

... I've yet to see any 3d model of a cat (anywhere) truly reflect the 3 layers of hair; only 2 are really obvious though.

How do these cats render for what’s now considered a low end card like the 1080ti?

My 1080 renders Zeus fine. No crash.

I have a 1080Ti and I have no issues with the house cat with dForce hair. The simulation took 30 seconds and the render 90 seconds. This was in Daz Studio 4.15. See attached image.

I think this image also shows how inferior the house cat is compared to the images of Cat Zeus already posted in this thread. The tooness that some people saw in Cat Zeus (myself included) really comes down to the big default head size. The images posted by Allen Art with the head size reduced proves that this toon look is easy to eliminate. Even thought real cats with big heads do exist, in the Daz world we have become conditoned to the fact that big head and big eyes equates to toons.

Nice cat, indeed. If it would also be available as "stand alone" cat, it would have been anb instant buy.

I'm not sure what you mean. It IS standalone.

Here, Zeus is clumpy and the only thing I changed morph-wise was I shrunk his head .18 and increased the thigh size. I changed the claws shader a little as it was too white and opaque for me. He looks exactly like my cats do 99% of the time - totally disinterested. LOL The more I work with him, the less toony he looks, especially if you clump up the fuzz.

The sphynx is nekkid except for whiskers. I added some dual lobe spec, but just a teeny bit. I have his HD wrinkles turned on and turned his resolution up to 3.

    Thank you Vyusur. I'm very pleased with everything so far. :) I do have a wishlist tho....lol (of course I do - I wouldn't be a DS user if I didn't. :P )

    Ears smaller/larger
    Head triangular
    Body stocky/thin/fat/muscular
    Paws smaller/larger
    Nose wrinkle
    Eyes smaller/larger
    Eyes angle
    Eyes wider/narrower
    Muzzle longer/shorter/flat
    Muzzle pointed/rounded
    Prominent breastbone

Also, more textures (one can never have enough - I require a tortie and calico with tabby stripes...lol). I'd also love to see a long haired cat. Not so much a flat-faced persian, because I think those look deformed and I feel sorry for them, but maybe a long haired Turkish cat of some sort :). Thanks for listening!

    That's just a start. LOL

Zeus is just brilliant like this, would you mind posting your exact dForce settings? I'm so clumsy with the engine. Thanks!

I didn't save the settings...I'm sorry frown However, most of the ones I changed were the purple background ones at the bottom of the stack on the surface shader for the dforce fur....under "PS  Hairs at Style Curves" The green ones above it also provide some interesting results ;).

..so another qyestion how long does the dForce sim and rendering take?

Well, not long for me at all cause I have the Quadro P6000 with 24 gigs frown It's pretty fast. I'm going to assume I'm the exception rather than the norm ;). I know you have a Titan card though so it shouldn't take you too much longer. I mean, the Quadro sims it in a matter of less than 2 minutes and it renders in about 4 or 5.

Edit: retimed it. Sim took 32 seconds, render to 2000 samples took 2 minutes and 22 seconds. That's with just the cat and a plain background.

...I am aware that dForce Sims use OpenCL and according to GPU-Z, I have OpenCL 3.0, and Vulkan, however dForce sims still take a long time so I'm not sure what else comes into play. My Titan is only one generation behind the Quadro P6000 with about 750 fewer cores so that shouldn't be the reason for the longer sim times I've been seeing on dForce clothing (one item took over 20 min and that was using a fairly simple dress and pose).

Dforce cloth still takes awhile for even my gfx card. Dforce strand hair runs faster for me.

...the only hair I've run a sim on is Primavera, which is cloth rather than strand based beause of all the layers for the thickness and to keep the poly count manageable.  That was a "time to go wash the dishes from dinner" situation.

The house cat crashes my computer in DS 4.15 with a 1080ti. In DS 4.14 beta I can render one cat a time without crashing but if too close up, it sometimes crashes. All newer products pretty much go to CPU now, I’m just happy if I can actually get a render out without crashing!

Perhaps there should be some sort of Hiss-off.

Don't forget the Hivewire House cats...

Except I don't think the Hivewire Housecat looks much like a cat :'(. I have a lot of respect for Chris Creek, but I'm not fond of that cat. The horse on the other hand....

In my mind, there's no contest. The Hivewire cat looks alien. Some might think Zeus looks toony, but the other is just wrong.

Well, he had CWRW's input on the horse. I'm not sure there is anyone who is that level of expert on cats who is *recognized* as that level of expert.

Fwiw, I like the Hivewire cat. And CWRW dis some nice textures for it. *And* a LAMH preset.

Would like one of those for Zeus, since I don't do Iray. The sphinx probably dosent need one, if I'm rendering ait as a sphinx.

BTW, do the claws fully retract? Just about all of the renders here show the claws being visible. And that's a long way from universal with most cats.

Agreed. No one does horses like Laurie, but I've had cats my whole life and I've never had one that looked like the Hivewire cat. I could morph it myself if I wanted to, but it would take a lot for me to get it to where I was satisfied with how it looks. I don't have nearly as far to travel with Zeus ;). I'll readily admit I'm lazy and I'd rather have it look close to where I want it right out of the gate. LOL

    Here we go - Hissing

About all well known cats in 3d district are of triax weight mapping system which is all legacy. Zeus is a general weights figure with dual quaternion binding, he doesn't have any JCM and doesn't need them at all.

I've just picked up the Sphynxes today in anticipation of Zeus going on sale at some point. Love how real he can look!

  • BTW, aside from strategic camera angles, is there no way to make Zeus a female cat?
