problem loading pwEffect shaders
Hi
I am using Daz 4.6 Pro on Windows 7 to try to apply the pwEffect shaders to a figure in my scene.
This is what I do:
I select the figure and make sure that it is selected in the panel under surfaces- editor
Next I double click to apply neutral preset
Then I double click to apply any one of the twenty presets that come in the bundle.
I do have a light loaded and pointed right at the character.
The results are strange. The gas and ghoul presets do turn the figure green and semi translucent (though not like I saw them rendered in the shop)
The Misty Blue, Crackling Pink, Phantom and xray also seem to apply some kind of colour. Either a solid sea blue or solid purple.
However the other presets dont seem to do anything at all. After applying the same steps they just show as white.
After applying presets I have tried:
First baking then rendering
But I get just solid colours of either blue, purple or white.
Could someone please help?
Thanks Heather
PS I have just checked and it is not actually adding the shader at all, it still says Daz default shader under the surfaces tab.

I'm not sure what the issue is as I don't have pwEffect, but a few random ideas to try:
Sometimes you have to apply a different shader first, to CHANGE the shader being used, then apply the shader presets that work for that new shader. Could that be what is happening here? If you apply shader 2's presets to shader1, it won't completely work, but will try and will change the parts that are the same between the two shaders, which might make it seem to be doing something but not the right thing.
Another idea, which probably isn't the problem but you never know: If you reinstalled everything on your PC, and you install your shader into a custom runtime location, note that you have to reinstall some shader products as well, it isn't enough to just back up the folder you installed them into because the installation is split between that folder you backed up and the DAZ Studio application (which got wiped when you reinstalled your OS.)
First; I do not use DAZ Studio 4.6; I use DAZ Studio 4.7 and DAZ Studio 4.8.
I checked the pw`s and noticed that they did not work, too (only solid Colors) and when I try to add the neutral present the whole DAZ Studio freeze.
So I do an unistall and reinstall with DIM.
After the reinstall it work fine with both Versions of DAZ Studio.
With DAZ Studio 4.7 and 4.8 you do not need to add the neutral present (you shoudn`t add it - it causes DAZ Studio to freeze).
So try to uninstall and reinstall it with DIM first; then...
here are the steps that work (for me):
1. select the figure you want in the Scene Tab
2. select the same figure in the Surface Tab Editor and select the Surface you want
3. select the pw Effect you want (again; do not select the Neutral Present!)
4. render (you need to render in 3Delight to get the pw Effect)
hope this will work for you, too
thank you for your help. I'm sorry I only just saw this reply. I went to take your advice and opened Daz Install Manager to uninstall the pwEffect however it is not listed in the DIM. I looked under the control panel of my computer and couldn't find it there either. However when I search for it under the windows sign it shows up there. How do I go about uninstalling it if it doesn't appear in these places? Thank you.
Kind Regards,
Heather
pwEffects should be showing up in DIM
yeah its definitely not. What's more when I went back to try and download and install through DIM from my account page it fails to download at all. It will manually install which is what I did the first time because it wouldn't work through DIM. Does that give anyone any more idea what might be going on?
In theroy you should be able to go to your product library and see if there is a DIM version avalible and if so select download and install with DIM. I checked with others and they said it is in their DIM. Are you sure you have plugins checked off in DIM. If not it won't show. Open DIM, go to your downloads tab and scroll down and make sure plugins is checked off.
It arrived in DIM rather recently (OK, recent is relative) but it was not among the first products in DIM.
I just reinstalled my whole content set and yes, the pwShaders were all there in DIM.
to find the installed pweffects go to the Content Library (to the pwShaders), do a right click on one of the Shader Icons, their will be a
Popup window, select "Browse To File Location", then a window will Pop up wich is the Location of the pweffects.
Or schearch manually;the Location should be something like C:\Documents\Shader Presets\pwEffect_DS4\pwEffect Resources
make sure you installed the Version for DAZ Studio 4 not the one for DAZ Studio 3
I checked that the plug in was checked off and it is. Attached screen grab of the product downloads available and as you can see it is not listed. I know how to find it on my computer and what the run path is and it shows up in Daz Studio, but the problem is that doesn't help me uninstall it. Thanks for all the suggestions so far.
have you take a look if it is listed in the installed?
If their is no unistaller on your Computer you can simply delete the files.
Here it is where it shows up in product list...
and here is an example of me selecting surface and object
you can download it in the product list manually; you have to use the "Blue" Downlod Button if the Green does not work with DIM
yes I cant find an uninstaller so good to know thats an option to delete files
and yes I downloaded files for studio 4 thanks
and yes I know how to download it manually thats how I did it the first time because it wouldn't work through the DIM. I just needed it to show up in the DIM so I could uninstall it.
this is how to add the shader (as I said before)
Another strange thing thats happening is that I tried to apply various pwEffect shaders with the same renders but about half came out completely white with only one or two having some colour but not looking like the examples in the product sold so I assume something is wrong.
how did you add the shader and wich reder engine do you use?
this is the one with some colour
@ R25S thank you for your image. This is in fact what I am doing correct? See image above in thread...
wich shader is it?
@ R25S I do notice from your screen grab that yours say shader over the image and mine don't. Also when I look at it in the render settings tab after I have applied it still says default instead of pwEffect shader
You mean the Surface tab? In the Render Tab they didn`t show Shader for me.
Before adding a Shader the Surface Tab Show "Shader they don`t show Default.
To Clarify under your contents tab, the effect has shader written in the corner and mine don't. I was also noting that under my render settings under render style it says shader: default (despite having applied the pwEffect shader and I read that if it has been applied then it should name the shader not say default as it does.
It also does not come up in the shader list under render settings. The only options are default or cartoon.
I do not know if render style have to say pwEffect Shader since 4.8 haven`t that Option.
Can`t tell why their are not labeled as Shader in your Content - but I think this doesn`t matter.
Are you able to install DAZ Studio 4.8 and try it their?
Just an Idea... in Surface Tab / Currently Used / what is your Opacity Modifier? The wrong Modifier can cause your figure to render white.
here instead it renders light green
I don't see a setting for opacity modifier even under advanced settings in render settings? There is a multiply specular through opacity is that the one you mean. You can only turn it off or on...Also do I need to bake before I render?
I also notice then when I select help and view installed plugins pwEffect is not listed there.
