What does the DIM do does it just not download or do you get an error message when its trying to install? Do you have DIM pointed to your DS installation?

Ok I just noticed that the runtime path that was posted contained sdl files. I searched and found my sdl files are installed to a different path:
    C:\Users\Phoenix\Downloads\IM00005387-01_pwEffectforDAZStudio4\DAZ Studio_4.5;4;4.x Public Build;4.x Private Build\shaders

where as the dsb files are installed to this runtime path:
    C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\Content\Shader Presets\Shaders\pwGhost_DS4\pwEffect_DS4\pwEffect Resources

I'm thinking maybe this is significant?

Hi Scorpio let me go check that

OK so yeah if I go to the install manager it doesn't even list pwEffect as one of my products (see earlier notes in this thread) however if I go to my account on the website I can find it under my products. When I then click the green download and install button it launches DIM but then all I get is 0 to download, 0 to install, 0 installed (when I launch DIM on its own straight from the computer it ready 214 to download, 2 to install and 32 installed- none of which are pwEffects)

I had trouble finding it in DIM, had to use several different search terms before it found it, its listed as - pwEffect for Daz Studio 4.

TBH I think my runtime paths are probably a mess. After years of installations on various computers and those copies of those computers all stored on my current one there are a lot of different paths with some of the content being the same but some different so I don't dare delete any one of them. I don't suppose there is some script or something that will find and regroup all identical files and get rid of multiple copies while resorting them all to one series of folders?

  • edited December 1969

    yeah its definitely not there...

My sdl files are installed into CDrive (this is where I have DS installed to) -Program files/Daz 3D/DazStudio4/shaders this is for DS 4.7
    4.8 is the same drive - Program Files/Daz 3D/DazStudio4 Public Build/shaders

Thanks I think I will go and move everything there I guess my question is (as you can see in the png file above) some of the sdl files for the pwEffect are installed to one path but then the dsb files are installed to another. Should I take all the files for pwEffect and put them in this one location or do they need to get sorted to separate folders?

I see in your screenshots that pwEffects are there multiple times (see Picture) they should be there only once, I think

Your sdl Files are definitly in the wrong place they shouldn`t be in C:\Users\Phoenix\Downloads\IM00005387-01_pwEffectforDAZStudio4\DAZ Studio_4.5;4;4.x Public Build;4.x Private Build\shader. You should change it - I see you did it, now.

No I think its just the sdl files that need to be moved.
I have to go out now but if you haven't got it sorted when I get back I'll look to see where exactly my other PW files are.

    they belong to separate folders

the dsp.png from pwEffects belong to
    C:\Dokumente\Shader Presets\pwEffect_DS4\pwEffect Resources

the dsp.png from pwGhost belong to
    C:\Dokumente\Shader Presets\pwGhost_DS4\pwGhost Resources

remember mine have a custom install path but the last Folders must be the same.

is there a way to consolidate 10 or more runtime maps (I think they're called) to make management easier?

OK I noticed then when I searched for location of Daz 4.8 the location is at this path:

    C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4 Public Build

but the runtime path for the pwEffect is at:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\DAZ Studio_4.5;4;4.x Public Build;4.x Private Build\shaders

    could this be the problem?

No; this shouldn`t be a Problem.
Only make sure that DAZ 4.8 will know all Folders in the Content Directory Manager

If you take a look at one of my Posts from yesterday you see the Path is correct.

I moved all the pweffect files to where I found Daz 4.8 to be located and IT WORKED!!!!

Thank you all for your help! I appreciate your suggestions and help brainstorming. :-D VERY happy now!

Yes, the DAZ Studio_4.5;4;4.x Public Build;4.x Private Build is a placeholder for DIM. It means the fiels should go in the application folder for the production, public beta or private beta for DAZ Studio 4 - if you install manaually you have to place those files in the actual application folders, as you now have.

First; I do not use DAZ Studio 4.6; I use DAZ Studio 4.7 and DAZ Studio 4.8.

I checked the pw`s and noticed that they did not work, too (only solid Colors) and when I try to add the neutral present the whole DAZ Studio freeze.
So I do an unistall and reinstall with DIM.
After the reinstall it work fine with both Versions of DAZ Studio.
With DAZ Studio 4.7 and 4.8 you do not need to add the neutral present (you shoudn`t add it - it causes DAZ Studio to freeze).

So try to uninstall and reinstall it with DIM first; then...

here are the steps that work (for me):

    1. select the figure you want in the Scene Tab
    2. select the same figure in the Surface Tab Editor and select the Surface you want
    3. select the pw Effect you want (again; do not select the Neutral Present!)
    4. render (you need to render in 3Delight to get the pw Effect)

hope this will work for you, too

I ran into the same problem with the pw-shaders. They all worked fine back in DS 3, but since I use DS 4 - no matter which version - I only get solid colours. I deinstalled and reinstalled them several times now, but it doesn't help.

    What else can I try?

EDIT!! Whoops, I didn't read the whole thread, silly me! '^^ I got it to work, Thanks!

Sorry, I have to resurrect this thread again.

The problem with the solid colours instead of effects appeared again - although the shaders worked propperly before in DS 4.9.

I didn't change a thing, all files are where they belong and 3DL is selected as Render-Engine.

    What could cause the problem?

  • If you render, then go to Help>Troubleshooting>View Log file, and scroll to the end are there any errors relating to the render?

  • AngluAnglu Posts: 42

The logfile doesn't show any render-errors, but I just had a closer look at the Surface tab: Where it should say "Shader: pwEffect" it still shows "Shader: DAZ Studio default".

The files in the application-folder are there, but it looks like the programm can't find them or so...
