Expect the 980Ti to level out between $550 and $600 once they get into wider production and the next AMD card comes out. (I figure in a month)
Expect the 980Ti to level out between $550 and $600 once they get into wider production and the next AMD card to come out. (I figure in a month) Sounds good! I've been thinking about replacing my two 740's for extra speed (my other two cards are the 980 GTX's).

This is the one that's on it's way to me:

Well, I'm loving the 6gb of the Titan Black. The 780ti only has 3gb but the number of cores is surely impressive! In comparison with the 3072 cores of the Titan X, my superclocked Titan Black at 2888+ likely makes then roughly equal in clock speeds. The main difference is the architecture and the overall memory. If I can get 12gb for the price I once paid for 6gb then I want to do exactly that.
It is somewhat good news then to hear that the Titan Black is somewhat in demand by those who want to pair them for sli, because otherwise I cannot see any reason to invest in such a card. And if that is indeed the case, that window might begin to narrow as more people decide to just jump ship to the new Titan X's anyway
And doesn't this new Titan X kind of kill all incentive to buy the Titan Z, which is almost completely ignored it seems to the market?
I've begun to wonder what exactly is Nvidia doing here? They seem to be undermining themselves in more ways than one, and potentially pissing off customers like myself who have to serious scrounge to find the resources to play along in this field. Arghhh!

Arghhh! The Titan Z is two Titan Blacks on the same card. (Also no longer in production.)
Remember that NVIDIA doesn't actually make cards (The ones branded NVIDIA are manufactured by PNY.) they license the chipsets.

Ah, great. Good thing I don't keep weapons in my home!
...I've seen Titan Blacks on ebay for as low as 620$ ("buy it now" price). 30$ more and you can get a 980TI, that is if any are available as they are selling like proverbial hotcakes. Already sold out at both Newegg and Amazon.
Indeed. All these numbers are swimming in my head. Makes me a little crazy.

...a "true" 6GB and not a 3GB + 3GB card? The Nvidia site only gives the specs for the 3GB version.

...yeah going to be a somewhat crazy time for a bit.
I've been watching ebay as an indicator of the impact new GPUs have on older ones. My old GTX 460, which was cutting edge when I bought it and cost me almost 300$ new, is now going for around 40 - 50$ If the 980TI drives the price of Titans and Titan Blacks down further, it might almost be worth it to pick one up, though for the scenes I create, 6 GB could be borderline.
Interestingly I have been finding Quadro K6000s for as low as 3,000$ since the new M6000 was released back in April.

Thanks to a newer member here among us for posting the link and included info to a $50.00 off coupon as well. Cost me $333.24 USD total!
There's a big difference between the price being asked for something and the price being paid for something. Only the latter reflects the true value of the item (at the moment of sale). So if you're seeing Titan Blacks for sale on various markets at higher prices than Titan Xs that doesn't mean there is any actual interest in them. They might be long running ads that haven't caught up with reality, or they might be chancers hoping to flog shelf stock at an inflated price to someone not paying attention.
The only technical reason the older Titan cards might have more genuine value to someone is that they have full double precision capability, whereas the Titan X and 980 cards are pretty much single precision efforts. Iray and Octane (and games) are single precision programs, so we're grinning, but if an encryption geek wants to mine for bitcoins (for example), said geek will build a compute station out of double precision cards. But - the top AMD cards are very good at that so it shouldn't really reflect on older Titan cards.
Watching actual sales on eBay (as opposed to static Buy it Now items) shows the S/H Titans and T' Blacks moving at considerably below the 980Ti new price.
Rashad, if you can fund two Titan Xs by selling two Titan Blacks - DO IT!
But seriously, unless you are running out of VRAM regularly there's no financial sense in moving from where you are any time soon. Your two Titan Blacks leave my one Titan X in_the_dust for render speed.
And my pizza tonight was piss-poor. ;-)
.
...yeah but often times a before the auction closes the bidding price is not far off from the "Buy It Now" one and you aren't guaranteed to get the item either especially if the others bidding have a faster connection than you do. There was a Quadro K6000 which started at a minimum bid of 660$. Placed a "watch" on it and the last notification I received before the auction time expired was was around 3,200$ close as the "Buy It Now" price I saw for another one.
That's great.
Back when the Titan X launched I recommended to folks here to look for 6GB Nvidia bargains on the used market. But it was very slow. Now that the 980 Ti is out (essentially Titan X gaming performance at hundreds less) there are quite a few cheapies coming up (at least in the UK).
The vast majority of these cards are used by gamers, and a lot of gamers will take a big financial hit to keep up with the times. It's a good opportunity to hunt for Iray rendering bargains.
.
Again yes, but at certain times the process is no different to Apple not making iPhones (actually made by Foxconn, etc).
A typical example is the launch of a new top-end card. Nvidia wants them all to be "reference" cards, so they are all the same spec made in the same factory. Whether they are branded Asus, EVGA, Gigabyte, Palit, Zotac; they are all the same. They'll have different boxes, different warranties, different bundled extras, even different clocks - but the cards are physically all the same (with only NVidia branding on the hardware). This is the situation with the Titan X so far.
On other occasions (such as with the 980 Ti launch), you will have ASUS, EVGA, Gigabyte, etc, actually making or adapting the cards in their own factories. That's when you see all the different formats and coolers, etc. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that someone will release a 12GB 980 Ti, although I doubt NVidia will let that happen soon.
.
OK, here is my effort after spending a while trying to figure out my preferred hair settings. These use MEC4D's unshaven 2 as a base, with the colour maps added back in for a bit more variation and I have used the metallic flakes system run through a specular map to give the highlights more definition.
These 3 renders all use exactly the same textures, the only difference between them is the HDRI maps used at rendertime. There are no additional lights in the scene.
Render time for each at full size (1500x2000) was about 30 minutes give or take.
Very nice lighting, skin and hair .. good job Simon on the all settings !!!
Thanks for the shader, it made it much easier for me to reach this point.
Now I need to go and build something with a beard....
I think 10k samples and 14400 seconds wasn't enough. I think it ran into the 4 hour limit long before it hit 10 samples though.. might double the time and let it run over night.
Here is a vampire character I created called Nayte :)
2 minutes render on GTX 760 200 samples .. all shaders PBS ( physically based shaders) CPU rendering friendly :)
All materials was based on Fresnel IOR with proper values . I never going to use glossy and specular again lol at last not on the non organic surfaces
Some props old one some just made today .. mix and match of old and new ..
YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS ?
It's Iray time... lol
That turned out beautifully
Do you expecting someone ? romantic light set !
I love interior renders so much but the rendering time is killing my patience at this moment
great job !
Thank you, forgot to turn ON caustic and architectural sampler it may create even better visual result .. all light and colors original and unchanged , rendered on standard settings too just 2.20 for the HDRI environment map
That turned out beautifully
Those must be the best looking DAZ hair renders I've ever seen! Very inspiring, thanks for sharing the image and tips.
If you're going to let it run overnight anyway, I'd recommend you set the Max Samples very high, (15K is the default limit,) and set Max Time to 0 so there is no time limit. Chances are, it won't be completed before you get back to it and you'll have to stop the render. But if you're asleep, it won't matter if it renders for 6 or 8 hours instead of 4 and the additional time will mean less grain, especially in the dark areas of the image.
But I think the render came out very nice, as is.
Every night at midnight, DAZ time, I check to see if the new day has brought something else from you. Skin shaders, Eyes, now "PBS Shaders" ... Oh, the anticipation!
I can't remember the last time I was this impatient! lol
I'll just have to be content with testing the Iray Hair Shaders from Unshaven 2 on the various hair objects I have. Sadly none have worked as well as the Asteria hair I posted in the Unshaven thread. (http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/55729/P165/#829455) So far, anyway.
Oh, well. Back to work. :-)
