Well before you completely wright off FWart and Sabby, there figure mats are based on actual photo references, and I've seen lines like that (even the "reverse tan-line"). from the band at the top of socks/tights, etc. And that is honestly what this looks like on this particular figure. Not all of Fred's or Sabby's figures have such lines, just like most real people don't have such lines, and some do. In fact, I have an example already, and I think it matches really close.

As for G3F vs Auto-follow, that is squarely on Daz's shoulders, and not the fault of any PA.

Hmmm I see what you mean, thanks. That does make sense, although it doesn't explain why its only on one thigh and not the other (unless the model goes around in just one tight(s) all the time).

Its not just that though. I really like the way FWSA characters look but they also have a kind of black line drawn in on the lower edge of the glutes that looks a bit rubbish whenever they bend over. I think its there to highlight the crease where the glutes meet the hamstrings, but its an unnecessary addition and looks wrong and ugly in certain poses. Bonnie and Adaline both have it.

Yea, unless she has a job where she is standing with the sun always to one side, that is difficult to explain, lol. I did see some really odd looking "Stockings" when I did a quick search for a reference photo for the above example, lol. I didn't dig very far, as that one was near the top of the page, and was what I was looking for.

Painted on shadows, is something I've seen everywhere, from many PAs. Some as mundane as the crease on the side of the nose, to ridiculous shading of the eyes that make it look like the figure is rolling there eyes at you in a render, lol. I think that is leftovers from a time when computers had limited what could be done with simulating light, and some shadows needed to be faked in order to look good. I'm not into that, 3delight is incredibly powerful, and so is Iray, they were designed to simulate light and shadows. You don't need to be faking shadows, or photoshopping it in, let the render engine make the shadows, lol.

Yea, there is a small limitation with Iray regarding SubD vs Displacement maps, It's a fledgling render engine that is still improving. 3delight, well, it has a small resume (sarcastically), lol.

A Push modifier with an offset of as little as .05 fixes everything with out having a major impact on appearance (except for maybe extreme close up shots).

I do the same...some things smoothing doesn't fix.

I'm not sure that I'm understanding what you mean by projection morphs. Autofit uses projection templates and the clones to refit clothing, at least that is my understanding. Projection templates are basically meshes that have been weight mapped and set up as templates. Their weight map is transferred to the new item. The clone shapes are what impact on the shape...and help to convert the shape of the clothing from one figure to another.  Is there supposed to be something else happening also?

It is possible to create your own clones as I've done this with the hivewire family of figures.

  • Hey!  I'm trying to export .FBX with animation. The model is G3F/ Victoria 7. When Morphs are included animation gets partly lost + some body-parts are moving independently of bones. There are some distortions as well. Tested in 3ds max and Unity - must be an export issue. My peers noticed the same thing - recommended me to revert to Genesis 2.

       Any ideas?

I'm sorry andreiimagined, that is beyond my knowledge to be honest. I will make a small guess that the export thing probably is not exporting all the mesh geometry stuff for whatever reason.  There is that difference between Gen-6 with UV mapping and single bones per joint, and Gen-7 with UDIM mapping and some extra twist bones on each joint (I think I understood the extra bone thing is for twist control). The geometry (mesh) is different enough to make porting stuff between them difficult. I don't know what else is different between the generations that far down in the nuts and bolts.

Gen-7 was supposed to be more compatible with game engine stuff then gen-6, something there may be breaking in 3ds max and Unity for the newer generation.  I am painfully aware of 3DS and Unity, as I keep finding models (ships) I want that are only in those formats, and DS and Hexagon can't read them.

    ---

Auto-Follow Difficulties note. I may have been wrong about my first impression of auto follow.  I have taken the time to try to make each outfit fit each figure and graph it out. A clear patron has emerged. one figure will not work with anything, and some outfits only work with dial-spun figures based solely on the basic G3F shaping dials.

The graph is more extensive then shown here, tho it is clear there is at least one figure that is completely broken.  Over the past six months I have wiped and re downloaded that figure along with progressively more Daz stuff, five times.  I have five copies of her install zip from DIM on backup CDs. Every single copy is the same exact size (207,801,629 bytes) and the same exact MD5 check sum (4ab1d24a922aac039ac460fc6ed38335). At this point, I'm sure I have not done any thing wrong with the installation and methods using generation 7 stuff. The stuff is simply broken before DIM put it in my computer.

So in closing. Ceterum auto-sequi oportet esse figi -> However, auto-follow must be fixed.
