Anyone know how to remove the actual notifications? The number disappears when you visit the page but the notifications remain and I can't see a way to remove them?

Click on the notifications and at the page with the list at the gear in the upper right corner - it asks if you want to mark all as read - yes - now the notifications number is down to 0

I can get it to go to zero my problem is how do you remove the actual notifications? Or are they designed to remain there forever?

If you go up a level to the forum thread list, there is stars on the far right. Clicking them makes them yellow or not.

P.S. I like the new notifications, nice.

That will just remove them from your bookmarks.

On another note, could you help with an experiment?  Change your name by putting a space between Zarcon and Dee, and one between Dee and Grissom.  Let's see if that wraps part of your name to the next line and stops it from overlapping the body of the message like it does now.  Just a suggestion, but I'd love to see if that works.

I thought that was the notification thing. I didn't get notifications for this thread till I clicked that little star and turned it orange.

Oh, and it is at the top right of each page as well, I didn't notice that before.

they were there less then 20 hours ago,  because I went through them all to make sure everything was still there, and  they were, and some missing  I just looked at 12 hours ago (could be 14 now, I don't keep track of the time all the time)

so were you implying they are just now doing the copying , and  when I first look, was not the new copies, and what I see now is ?

as long as things  get back I'm okay with  some waiting

From what you're saying, it sounds like they're breaking them rather than fixing them.  frown

Yeah, if you bookmark a topic, you'll get notifications if you have notifications turned on.

If you click the gear icon that shows you the options for the forums, one of them is Notifications.  There is a boatload of them in there.  I have tot ry the trick that Kerya mentioned and see if that works...but after I've read all the new posts that I really want to see.  I don't want to mark everything read until then.

long names do wrap sometimes, even if they don't have spaces in them.

Could you show me that?  Point to a post that has that happening?  I'm curious why it would work only sometimes if it truly works that way.

Something is strange about avatars. If I view the forum from my phone (Android, Chrome) I can see my avatar on my posts. If I view the forum from my computer (Windows 7, Firefox or Chrome) I cannot see my avatar. Trying to edit it in my profile gives fatal errors, as I posted previously.

I'm viewing the forum with Waterfox, the 64bit version of Firefox and it all looks fine to me. I can see your avatar.

That's interesting. I can't see your avatar or DataTA's, but I see many others, including larsmidnatt on this page..

That may have some relevance. Can you post that with a rundown of OS, Browser version, etc here.

That reads rather funny. Your text has become roadkill, cheers!

lol, yes it completely steemroals my text, just like any broken html will. Still, half the world not seeing pics on an art forum is a bit more critical then text overlapping text, lol.

    (edit, for comparison, lol)

works in chrome, but not IE or FF. LOL.

So they don't have a real QA team or process, because IE, FF, and Chrome are all still big browsers(granted 10+% marketshare is a big deal, does not mean FF is as big as it once was in the past) so unless their userbase is significantly different than standard they didn't do any testing before releasing the forums.

Huh. Interesting. At the moment, I'm looking at the forum on the most recent version of Chrome, Windows 7 Pro, and the name is wrapping within the limits of the space defined in the DIV.

However, when I look at it with the most recent version of Firefox, on the same computer, the name doesn't wrap. Weird.

And just to make things even, on Firefox, I can see all the avatars (I think), but in Chrome, random avatars are missing.

(Crossposting with larsmidnatt to say the same thing about Zarcom, apparently.)

It's early days, I'm sure that they'll sort the bugs out sometime. When I get emails regarding this thread, the links are broken, but, they are fine when I get them for my thread.

Testing, well, it may be out of there hands if it is being broken by the hosting company, tho it is broke.

*cough* no, its never out of their hands. And a half decent hosting company does test on multiple browsers if they are also responsible for templates.(hosting is one thing, they have nothing to do with styling, or software! but if the hosting company does offer services for software management, theme installation etc, they should do it at a high level)

So there is no excuse. It looks more like Daz handled this on their own frankly. They are way too big to hand this over to a super small company (ie college student), so any modestly sized company would have tested properly. Trust me :)

if you pay a company to handle migrations for you, or to install templates for blogs/forums they are responsible and should be more than familiar with cross browser testing.

OK, seriously, that popup messaging thing needs to go away.

I've gone into my preferences twice now and unchecked the popup for everything but PMs, and they're still happening. The first time, I unchecked everything, saved preferences, and it all seemed to be good. Came back today, and all the items I'd unchecked had been rechecked by the forum. So I unchecked them AGAIN. Saved AGAIN. Literally about two seconds after I saved, I got another popup notification for a forum thread.

What do you have to do to make them go away and stay away?

(Also, do I want to know what this "wall" thing is that the preferences are talking about? I mean, yes, I know what it is in Facebook, but what does that have to do with this forum?)

  • So, in any case, because the HTML is NOT w3c compliant, that's why it is so different in most browsers. And nobody is seeing the same page, lol.

Well even W3C compliant code will not render the same on all browsers. Cause IE :) That's why we call it Internet DESTROYER. Typically you have style sheets for all browsers excluding IE, then style sheets for the various versions of IE you support on your website LOL.

But because FF and IE are both having issues, something extra funky is up.

Folks that have overly long user names, please go into your settings and short them.. PLEASE?

I clicked on the "Post Comment" button, and nothing happened.  I waited a few seconds just to see if it was just slowly processing, decided it had just ignored my click, then I either tried again once or did a multiple-frustration-click on it, then of course got two identical posts.  However, when I tried again in a test thread to rapidly pound the "Post Comment" button a few times, it still only posted once.  So there might be some circumstance under which double posts are either allowed or generated, and also a circumstance where the button press possibly isn't being seen, although I can't be sure.  I don't see a way to delete a post yet.

    Here's my experience:

I can see all of the avatars, but none of the images.  Every inline image I look at is broken.  Longer names don't wrap, but go right into the post.  Using Firefox release 39 on 64 bit Windows 7.

Before anyone asks, it looks the same on Firefox 39 on Windows 8.1 too.

EDIT: Was editing my preferences.  Got this error, and the formatting screwed up.

It's just... I've been trying to read this.  I've spent a couple hours just browsing the forums to see if my eyes could get used to it.

They can, but they shouldn't have to.  Why is it the forum for a graphics software so visually maligned?  So much space wasted.  Fonts 8 point sizes too many.  Instead of providing quick and legible access to information, information must be gathered slowly due to the lack of visual markers indicating different posts and the spaced out spaces.

I could take that, if the release wasn't obviously finished.  No company should launch a forum this inherently broken and untested, unless it's one guy and it's his first forum migration.  Even fan forums for video games I visited back in 2004 migrated forums better.

Possibly the most important tool for accessing the FORUM is a SEARCH FUNCTION.  If I want to find out about a product, or a vendor to ask questions, leave comments I need SEARCH.

Can't find it in this new improved joke of a forum.

What happened to common sense these days? Too many program updates screw things up that used to work just fine. Let's hope this forum is not like that.
