they were there less then 20 hours ago,  because I went through them all to make sure everything was still there, and  they were, and some missing  I just looked at 12 hours ago (could be 14 now, I don't keep track of the time all the time)

so were you implying they are just now doing the copying , and  when I first look, was not the new copies, and what I see now is ?

as long as things  get back I'm okay with  some waiting

Exactly, I've been watching it unfold in my threads all week. Old pics linking to the old thread are there, then thy disappear, then the thumb comes back with a broken link, etc. Yes I do have ill feelings about that, tho considering it is not a NASA website, I'll reserve my opinions on rolling out a new server before it is even set up, lol.

I didn't touch a single link in my threads, and they started spontaneously changing to the new layout, etc.

Well, with all the forum problems...

...it looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue

Uploading attachments seems to have broken now. I uploaded one pic just fine, but, I'm now trying to upload a second and it's sat for several minutes saying 'Uploading...'.

    I hope this isn't a regular thing

I can't see any pictures on the new forum, even if I had cleared the cache. Latest Google Chrome, windows 7.  Pictures that was in the 'old' forums do appear.  But threads posted after the change pictures are not showing, just empty boxes.  Not sure if I have missed this query before by someone else but to go through 22 pages on this thread is a bit much.

Can I follow a thread without posting to it?

But yay for being able to put images in place more predictably again - that should be far FAR better for writing tutorials!

    Cheers,

Yes, I think you can. Just click the star icon at the top of the page, that should do it.

I discovered this morning that I now have 4745 Bookmarks?

I imagine that is all of the current threads on the forum?   I don't get that many notifications, but I am definitely not going through all of them to change themlaugh

Hopefully this will be fixed in the coming days.

I wish the whole screen setup showing comments were a little squished-like in the vertical sense: to see more comments in one screen shot (at most, only four comments can be seen in a single screen shot, whereas before double that amount could be seen). This could be achieved by reducing the font size down a knotch, make the avatars smaller, too, as there seems to be a lot of space (vertical-wise) for the above-mentioned areas.

I'm all for change, but make it positive so as to make life easier. I think the old addage might be taken into account for the new changes - Less Is More

Sorry to quote myself, seems a bit odd, but I have figured out what all the 'My Bookmarks'  are.   They are all of the threads i have responded to since the previous new forum was set up just over three years ago.   I suppose that is how it is supposed to work, it just worried me a bit a first, the thought of getting thousands of emails every day, but that is not happening (of course)   Well done web prople, it is all coming along, and I will get used to it someday.

Anyone know how to remove the actual notifications? The number disappears when you visit the page but the notifications remain and I can't see a way to remove them?

Click on the notifications and at the page with the list at the gear in the upper right corner - it asks if you want to mark all as read - yes - now the notifications number is down to 0

I can get it to go to zero my problem is how do you remove the actual notifications? Or are they designed to remain there forever?

If you click the Notifications link in the gear menu to go to the list, there should be an x to the right of each that you can click to delete them (after confirming that that's what you want). Annoyingly, there isn't a mass delete option that I can see.

Any chance you could post a screenshot of where the "x" is supposed to be?  I ran my cursor all over the place hoping it would pop up and even selected the whole page on the off chance that it was just white on white, but I don't see any by any of my notifications.

  • Is there a SEARCH function that ONLY looks in the Forums? If so, I cannot seem to find it...

Here's a fun one... There is no obvious way to CLEAR a comment you start writing but then decide not to finish. I quoted someone's post yesterday, wrote a snarky comment, and then thought better of it. (I do that a LOT, on every forum... keeps me outta trouble most of the time.)  I logged in today, and my draft, which had been saved, was STILL THERE.

In fact one of the reasons I am making this post is that posting a comment seems to clear it... so I deleted the snark and wrote this.

I should not have to do that. It's nice that the forum saves drafts and all, just in case my browser crashes, but if it's going to save them ad infinitum, then we need a way to CLEAR them.

Agreed 100%. Where's a "like" button when we need one...?

And a "preview" button...? (edit: that up there should have been all one quote, not cut into sniplets)

And lots of other buttons...?  frown

I know... I was kinda hoping for a "Like" button.  That would be so nice.  They come in handy and help folks understand that what the post is well... liked!  lol

Please give the users a way to shrink down font sizes and forum display. The current layout is nauseating as if you try to read with a book 2 cm infront of your face.

Here is what I mean. There is a similar option for saved Drafts, if you go to your Drafts from the main gear menu at top-right.

This has been reported and is, I believe, being looked at. However the images are gone in different threads for diferent users - it isn't simply that the files are missing.

Richard ... I am going to try to attach a file - but "normal" people don't get an "X" - at least it looks like it.

    (I am normal, really! *grin*)

That is a topic reply notification, mine was a PM notification - maybe they are treated differently. I can't think of any reason why we would get an option there that you don't.

  • RogerbeeRogerbee Posts: 4,460

I am still unable to attach files. Another member in the same thread has been able to do it. However, when I try, the forum still sits on 'Uploading...' and won't go any further. What can I do?

Link redirecting should now be in place, so stored bookmarks and Google search results should work (at least for thread links).

Most of my old-new forum thread bookmarks work now - most that were of the http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/8598/ format, but not all, e.g. http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/5945/

I also have a load of thread bookmarks like this http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=10186 which don't work (I'm guessing they're old-old forum as opposed to old-new forum)

And of course corrected old-old forum links like this http://forumarchive.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=187168 seem to be well and truly gone.

Links to specific posts in the old-new-forum only link to the top of the thread.

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/20391/P15/#305146 (that's a link to post #18)

So that totally screws up all the intra-thread cross-referencing I had !

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines

Seriously, I understand the frustration of being redirected, and the lack of a search function, so I used my computer's HISTORY. (Upper left corner of your computer, that <- you right click) Tried to remember a thread's name and couldn't find it, so History worked. Not a perfect solution, but remember it's there.

FYI- I posted a thread in Commons with all my Reference Links, dating back a year and a half (possibly two years.) Feel free to browse through the links to find your old favorite threads. There's overlap with the Stickied links by admin, but there's a lot of things they didn't link. Mine are alphabetical and easy to use.

There's also a thread that deals with the loss of images, and everyone is posting there as one of the admins are monitoring it.

This may have been mentioned before, but 375 comments is a little daunting to look through.

When I post a comment with a quote, the insertion point starts out inside the quote and its not intuitive how to get it out of the quote.

Finally got all my old messages deleted (again lol)... really should add in some check boxes on the main messages list page and allow a mass deletion rather than one at at time! Thanks!

So what happened to my Avatar?

It was displayed earlier today, now it is gone. After seeing that it was gone, I tried to edit the "Thumbnail" in my account settings, and I got a fatal error:

    Fatal Error in PHP.getimagesize();

getimagesize(/var/www/html/daz3d.com/vanilla/uploads/userpics/558/pFAE3164E1533.jpg): failed to open stream: No such file or directory

The error occurred on or near: /var/www/html/daz3d.com/vanilla/applications/dashboard/controllers/class.profilecontroller.php

(Sorry about the huge text. That is how the error message pasted in from the web page it occurred on.)

You need not apologize for some one ell's decisions regarding font size. Besides, there are now posts all over the place with text far larger then was intended by the original poster when they were typed up months ago.

I'm still looking into finding a 'Site specific' solution for this "oversized font issue", that will not over ride every page everywhere else. Unfortunately, the solutions regarding my view of this forum in my browser, will not be in the slightest way sympathetic to others that have not implemented such drastic measures.

P.S. the thumb may have been a temporary glitch from swapping out servers or something while transferring the forum over.

(EDIT, added screencap of the font overlapping issue)

For the overlapping thing, look at that username.  there are no spaces.  Try that in Word, or any editor that wraps text.  It will move the entire name to the next line.  It can't break it in the middle because there are no spaces in the middle.  HTML works the same way.  If there were a space in there, it would be able to wrap the rest to the next line.  Since it can't, it breaks the formatting.  If the font were smaller it might fit.  But how small do they go?  And can they make it different as needed?  Would that look like hell?  Yes!  And it certainly wouldn't be using the CSS formatting at that point.  I'm not sure what the answer is here, but it does look like crap when it overlaps the body of the message.
