Go Florida! We're on the defense. Whenever the Chinese were attacking, you'd see a pause and then someone in Miami would fire back! Also, Seattle or somewhere over there on the East Coast is now getting bombarded.

From Render Boy: This seems to work for searching:  http://www.daz3d.com/forums/search  -- it will give you a box where you can put in search terms.   Or you can get fancy with the URL and do something like this: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/search?Search=search+forum

I think the forum will soon develop it's own version of leet sp34k 1337.

I mean I was rending an image with Moby D1ck holding a bl00dy b4st4rdsword in his hand, while the writer Charles D1ckens came riding on an 4ss or donkey as it's also is called. Meanwhile down at the beach, James Bond met Puzzy Galore for the first time, and the both watched AM's little b34ver that was building a nest up the stream.

Is b-e-a-v-e-r filtered as well? Beaver-beaver-beaver. It is just an animal.

Actually, they (spreadsheet and word processor software) don't look the same. Microsoft got the same complaints when they changed their format from the traditional menu/button bars to the strips they now use. Openoffice et al use the older format still.

...  There's a reason why most forum software looks the same. Just like there is a reason like most spreadsheet software works about the same...

in my country, blood +y is not offensive. I understand in some places it means a particular thing, but I thought Daz was US company? In US its not an offensive term. Overzealous filtering. I hope they fix it.

We can't possibly appease everyone in the universe, so maybe just filter out the generally accepted "bad" words.

Therein lies the issue. Some words are considered inappropriate for viewership on TV, and others not. Take my last post for example. In todays world, I'm saying "that the thought is, Candy", however in old English it was something different. And the same applies to red-stuff.

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/857942/#Comment_857942

Because English is a language based on multiple meanings of each word, depending on how it is inserted into a sentence, a simple word filter will never be perfect, and there will not be a 'common' agreement on what words are, bad.

    Greetings,

OT: In one forum I'm on, the person running it (a web comic author/artist) got so tired of folks referring to one of his characters a particular way that he added a filter that replaced the word for a female dog with the word 'bongo'.  It was a simple, and funny, fix to a social problem without being a real bongo to implement.

I have to admit, I am a little sad that it's not possible to mark attachments as 'mature' and have a bit setting whether or not I want to see items marked 'mature' when reading the forums.  I can't even find a plugin for Vanilla that lets you do that. sad  I thought it was one of the features desired in the new forums, so we could post sample renders and issues without having to edit super-carefully.  Presumably a maturity filter would allow you to see/hide the filthy, vile, disgusting language you'all seem to want to use. wink

Oh, and fun OT story.  My 6yo son was in his first grade class, and the teacher was working on 'sh' words.  'ship', 'shine', 'share'...  She asked, "Can anyone else think of any others?"  My son, completely seriously, raised his hand, and when she pointed to him, said, 'shit'.  The teacher thought he MUST have repeated 'ship', and asked him to repeat himself.  He did, clearly.  She told us, by a note in his notebook, that it was all she could do to keep from breaking into laughter at how earnest he was, while saying that.  She explained that wasn't a word we used, but he was right, it's an 'sh' word, and moved on.  We explained to him about words he can't use, and he...wanted us to tell him the other words he shouldn't use.surprise

It's REALLY hard not to laugh, when having that particular conversation. devil

Link redirecting should now be in place, so stored bookmarks and Google search results should work (at least for thread links).

  • Joe CotterJoe Cotter Posts: 3,259

That is to demonstrate how nothing ever truly gets deleted on the internet, just hidden from view. wink

... WOW ... I had DELETED all those PMs, why do I have so many in there now but more importantly, HOW do I get rid of these and all those other "notices" ... I for one do not require a life time's worth of messages store anyway thank you.

    Some observations:

    1) In the forum menu page we can no longer see how long ago a thread was updated.  There is a time given, if you look closely, but then you have to work out if it is DAZ time or local time, and then do some arithmetic.  If I see that a thread was last updated "13 minutes ago" or "6 hours 27 minutes ago" as in the previous forums, I can gauge almost immediately if I am likely to have read it.

    ...snip...

I've got little notes showing up next to each thread showing how many new posts it has since the last time I was in it.  "2 new," "5 new," etc.  I liked the last updated time stamps too but I think this is actually more useful to me.

Yes, I appreciate the value of that - it's just that, for the most part, I view this site and the forums without logging in.  I only tend to log in when I buy something or post something.  So the "new" posts are not usually new.

  • Richard HaseltineRichard Haseltine Posts: 102,730

Notifications should now behave the way they did on the old forum - one email, and then no more until you visit the thread again. Note that this does mean if you don't visit after a notification you won't get any more notifications - that doesn't mean that you have "lost notifications" or that the subscription has failed, it just means you need to manually go to the thread to see if there are new posts.

What about all of the links that go directly to posts, such as:

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/424515/

In the Carrara Forum, Dartanbeck has created an enormous "Carrara Information Manual" thread populated with "viewreply" links. The thread dates back to 2013.

Has most of this work been flushed down the drain?

I've noticed at least one thread that had an orange "2 new" after it, indicating there were two new posts, however when I visited the thread (which removed the "2 new"), there were no new posts, just the same ones that I had already read.

Glad to hear notifications are no longer going to fill up the inbox!  That's very good.

I have not been getting any email notices at all since the forums changed over. I wasn't going to say anything because i did not want a 100= notices filling up my email box..lol

I still get notices for when i buy products but not to my replys in the threads

  • 3D-GHDesign3D-GHDesign Posts: 687

Searching in forum is no longer available? If I try to search for somthing, that leads to the store pages and can find only products.....

For me, this forum is harder to read and not as comfortable as the previous one. Zoom out is not an option for me, because the letters will be too small, but now only 1-2 post what I see on my screen at the same time instead of the 5-6 as previously. Too much scrolling need to find a thread because the empty space is huge between them (or maybe the line height is too much....)

Note that unlike the old forums where you were automatically subscribed to a thread when you posted to it, that is not the case in the new forums, so you have to post AND subscribe to the thread.  That's already caught me a few times where I thought my subscription wasn't working when I simply hadn't subscribed, possibly you could be seeing that.  (although at least earlier this week, if you start a thread (as opposed to contributing to an existing thread started by somebody else), it DOES subscribe you but without actually marking the thread as subscribed.)

Another issue that's QUITE annoying... when you click on an image to expand it you have to hit the back button to go to the posts again.  How about a pop up with and X to exit rather than all that mess??

...well once viewing attached pics is fixed (still getting the "page not found" error) you can right click on the thumbnail and open it in another tab or window.

The formatting is way too large.  It is less comfortable to read and takes longer to go through now.  I can adjust the zoom but there is too much of a discrepancy between large and small text and there are large blank spaces.

It's annoying that we need to go to a specific URL just to search but I assume that will be fixed soon.

    No spell check?

Over in the Car and Bike lovers thread, you can see where an image should be but when you click on it, a page opens stating "page cannot be found" or something like that. Can't view any images posted by users.

  • DAZ_BenjamDAZ_Benjam Posts: 25

Just an observation and note: please be careful when using different colors for your comment text. There are two themes currently available for the DAZ website and the forums, one that is light text on dark (the dark theme), and another that is dark text on light (the light theme). If you use the light theme, and change your text to be black, it may look fabulous to you, but other people who use the dark theme will have a hard time reading your text. And vice versa for the light text.

Setting a background color has the same effect. If you are on a light theme, and use a light background to highlight your text, when viewed on the dark theme, it will be a glaring white box around your text. And vice versa for the dark theme.

So please be aware that your settings are not everyone's settings, and use the default text and background color unless absolutely necessary, and be mindful of the consequences when you do.

I've been trying to figure that out too.  I can view some images, so they're not totally broken, but I cannot view others.  Not sure why it's not all or nothing.

    @Richard Haseltine
    @DAZ_ann0314

Please be advised that images that were posted in old threads are disappearing.
If you examine various threads such as these for example:
    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/50130/luxuscore-carrara
    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/43528/post-your-renders-6-let-it-rip
    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/27826/official-release-of-carrara-8-5-update-8-5-1-19
    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/57498/the-missed-it-by-that-much-to-get-a-bacon-steak-sandwich-complaint-thread

You will find that posted images will only appear on the first two or three thread-pages of posts. After that, all of the image links are broken until the last two or three pages of the thread.

Not only that, but when you click on one of the few images that are still visible, to see the larger version, that link is also broken. (Although the newly posted image attachments with the tiny thumbnail do enlarge when clicked on).

This is clearly a disaster if not fixed.

Edit: @DAZ_Benjam,   I think this is the same thing that sriesch is talking about.
