What's in "Genesis 9 Character Essentials"?

Looks like the 'essentials' are just eyebrows and eyelashes.  Shouldn't that be called "Genesis 9 eyebrows and lashes"?

No morphs, colors, expressions, etc.  Just eyebrows and eyelashes?

Edit:  To add to my confusion, it mentions "Includes Genesis 9 anatomical elements" in the details but not in the "What's Included" or "File Listing".

Edit/Update:  Through the first two pages, at least.  A few things to note:

  • There were some bugs apparently with some of the brows.  It sounds like it's been fixed.
  • Genesis 9 textures are 8k.  Someone thought they were 4k, but they are 8k
  • Anatomical Elements are included in this pack.  They don't show up in the File Listing/Read Me because they are a separate package bundled with this one.  They are not included with the Victoria 9 HD Intro Bundle.  Male and female elements are included.  Textures still to come.
  • Some discussion about whether the combined mesh is a good idea.  I like it.

That was what I thought. I want the morphs...

    This is confusing...

I had the gen 9 essentials downloads (2 parts), but no Victoria nor HD or others, using DIM.

However if i check out Genesis 9 Starter Essentials within Studio, i got way more stuff.

    - Mouth, eyes eyebrows.

    - Genesis 9 Actor (+ dev load)

    - G9 base pixie hair

    - Bikini materials, Hair materials, shorts and shirt materials, Maps Female normal, fremals skin materials (4 different ones), Landmarks+Overlay, eyes, UV stuff.

    - G9 poses.

    - A hand prop !?

    - G9 head split deformer utility.

    - Actual wardrobe items for mentioned above stuff.

    That qualifies for something.

Now obviously this correlates with my purchase of "Victoria 9 presale bundle" somehow. So MAYBE, if you haven't bought any gen9, it show all that? Or maybe it's incomplete or a bug.

    (Oops, overlooked male specifics.)

Looks like some male-specifics are not contained (and i have not bought any male yet, obviously).

That lines up with what I got in the Genesis 9 Starter Essentials.  Not a bad starter pack, though it'll be weeks probably before the PAs start putting the latest versions of popular products like Fit Control, clothing converters, etc.  I played with it for a moment before work and autofit seemed to work pretty well with some basic pants and shirts for both G3 and G8 products, so that's good.

I was just wondering what was up with this one product.  Seems like an odd name for extra brows and lashes.  Not really 'essential' given that the starter pack was decent.

But my eybrows are missing.  /data/Daz 3D/Genesis 9 Starter Essentials/G9 Eyebrows Card Style 01 High/UV Sets/Daz 3D/Base/default.dsf File not found on all the eyebrows.

Didn't get the shirt to fit over the trousers (female-ish body, proportions slightly smaller). None of the morphs for the shirt do anything (except for revealing the breasts while adjusting)...

Not a deal breaker, but still... out of the box :p. New to this, though.

"Character Essentials"?  Using DIM i only got the gen 9 starter essentials, that's all i see in Studio after installation with DIM...

    Oh right: https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-9-character-essentials

Now that's confusing at first glance.

Right, i tried setting some, and it said files are missing! It had the number 5 eybrows on, though. Not sure if from start.

Just checked the eyebrow files, all pathways match, so they do work.

The problem would appear to be a DSE script that gets run after the eyebrow is loaded, and as it's a DSE that means I can't open it to check.

Gonna try a few things to check if it is that script.

I've added this information to the report I sent to daz.

It does include the anatomical elements. I actually dig this a lot because it's nice to be able to purchase the anatomical stuff without buying a full bundle.

  • BejaymacBejaymac Posts: 1,889

Scratch that, it's not the script but rather what it's calling that's the problem

    "data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 9\Base\Tools\Script Loads\Eyebrows\Card Eyebrows MAT.duf"
    "data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 9\Base\Tools\Script Loads\Eyebrows\Fiber Eyebrows MAT.duf"

    ^^^^^ those two files

  • I dunno... Would expected at least some of the character essentials, like anatomical elements and eyebrows, to be part of Genesis 9 figure download, not something I would have to purchase separately.

G9 Essentials does? I'm not seeing it anywhere.

The H-Mats for the eyebrows also have the same bad pathways, so they will also need fixed.

The character essentials yeah, but not the starter essentials. It's not on the product page correctly I don't think, but I have them and can load them on a character.

I got the "G9 Starter Essentials".  Now, I need "G9 Character Essentials"?  Please could somebody confirm this?

I also noticed errors regardring eyebrows etc.

    Thanks and regards

G9 Starter Essentials is the free content that comes with the base figure. The Character Essentials is an optional package that has extra customization options for eyebrows, iris colors, and eyelashes, and it also includes the genitalia geografts.

Oooh, I missed those. I guess my brain was just autocorrecting the thread title to "starter essentials".

The shape morphs are just in the shaping tab. The Essentials have one hair, a set of base underwar/shirt, eight skin materials, a base pose set. The anatomical elements of the essentials are eyeballs, mouth, and the eyebrows (several different types of eyebrow shapes, too). It's a pretty solid package for the starter essentials.

As for gens, in the releases I witnessed, from G2 to G9, they always were sold with the V/M Pro Bundles, and were never part of the Starter Essentials...

May be I missed or missread something or other in other threads, but I am under the impression that the anatomical element should come with Victoria 9 HD, to which I have pre-ordered.  So, now I have to purchase something else in addition to Victoria HD bundle?  Oh my...

I'd say the real question is, what a pro bundle would contain then, and if it is obligatory in any way.

So if the character essentials bring me anatomical elements, i could just buy that early, for instance. So i am not "forced" to buy the/a pro bundle with lots of redundant content, potentially, if i have preordered and buy the character essentials.

I think that's probably why they did it this way. Pro bundles are way more expensive than they used to be and it's a little harder to justify buying one than it was when they were regularly on sale for $15-30 USD.

Yes, character essentials contain the anatomical elements.

I understand that bundles are sometimes a good way to introduce extra stuff, and that an extra product might not be justified, but i'd rather have them non-buyable products as an extension, than special additions buried in the description text. With character essentials it's less of a riddle and more plain and simple (if that's it then), much preferred.

Nice! Anatomicals sold separately from the Pro packages was something a lot of forumites asked for, so I'm glad they made this happen.

There should be presets in Victoria 9's materials if you have her, and while I can't check right now I think the basic G9 skin options should have gens materials you can apply.

Looking at the description for the Character Essentials, I get the feeling this wasn't meant to be released yet (especially as it isn't shown in the 'additional new' on the main store page).

I mean, the text is exactly what I get when head office sends me copy to spruce up. "Here are some dot points. Note the bit where we say it works better in games, maybe explain what 'card' actually means. Make sure it's longform sentences too, and put in lots of exclamation marks."

If it *is* meant to be released, then... they might wanna fix it up a bit

I downloaded it through DIM and the anatomical elements and Character Essentials showed up there as two different products. So I'm not sure if it would be in the same file as the other stuff.
