I can't believe the character essentials isn't included in the bundle. If they'll be doing this going forward I've probably bought my last bundle as most of them have stuff I don't care about so it's easier to just pick and choose. Also it's odd that the character essentials don't show up on the Victoria 9 sale page but are only on the front store page.
It not showing up on the sale page might be an error, but they're weirdly coy about ye olde anatomical elements and making sure people who want them have to know what to look for. So it wouldn't surprise me if they just chose not to advertise it.
They've changed the model from "pro bundle for gens" to an extra product. Much requested change, AFAIK. The price (on sale) isn't that high either, though i can't find materials for the gens, as the default skins of Starter Essentials don't seem to do anything on the gens.
If putting gens elsewhere makes sense or not, is another question. In theory you have a "very" youth-safe package with only nipples and skin, but i'm not the apologetic person in charge anyway.
I'm not against the gens being sold seperately as an option. I am against that option not being included in the pro bundle. On the other hand, it just further lowers the value of the bundle which is a good reason for me to not buy them in the future unless they come with a lot of stuff I want.
From the looks of it, "Character Essentials" are the anatomical elements, which have always been included with the Pro bundles in the past.
So, I just went in and looked to see if I could find the textures and noticed that the product entry for the anatomical elements in smart content has [DO NOT ENABLE] as part of the name. >.> I hope they were intended for inclusion and not there by mistake.
I noticed the "do not enable" part in DIM or somewhere too, i think. Could imagine that's from repackaging after providing to testers or content creators before official launch.
A Pro bundle might still contain the gens or the character essentials, though. In any case the intro bundle apparently isn't the pro bundle.
I don't know, why they don't include the anatomy from start, though. The sales numbers are not really an argument, given you only buy them once per generation. Maybe it's legal questions, if you give minors an account for instance, though maybe that's excluded per TOS, anyway. I just don't know.
The gens are referenced in the product description for Genesis 9 Character Essentials, so at least you will be able to nagg them to give them to you, even if they decided to remove them later on. I assume it's intended this way.
Just can't find materials for the gens. So for the simplistic user, they're not usable right now.
It says Do Not Enable to remind people at Daz that it should not be enabled as a stand-alone product, it is to be sold only as part of the bundle. It's not the only item with a similar caution.
I have Victoria 9 HD installed Ok but I can only see 4K textures no 8K as advertised. If anyone else has the 8k maps please let me know where :) Still no Voss hair which was meant to be part of the pre-order.
It also says:
8K HD Materials
Included standard with the base Genesis 9 figure
Which is also not true, the base genesis 9 materials are all 4k.
Richard,
I am confused. G9 Character Essentials is not listed as one of the included products in the Victoria 9 HD Intro Bundle.
And looking at the free Genesis 9 Starter Essentials, some of the items just seem to be expanded materials for the free items.
So I am one of the folks waiting on my pre-ordered bundle, should I order this G9 Character Essentials package or not?
Mary

i like separate male female characters. this is just adding steps. No morphs. Yes, there are asymetrical morphs ... but no facial/head or body adjustments...its all very basic I guess.
It leads to another train of products that need to be purchased, which atr this point in time, I'm not too sure this will happen for me.
I did install the essentials. The overall look is cool. the posing looks good. I guess from reading there are some eyebrow things missing or something, but I did try to add the brows that are in materials, but they just overlay the brows already there when you load the character, or the skin, which I think looks fine, 4k or not.
There may be some great additions to this product from previous characters, but overall its another character/figure, which tend to all look pretty much the same in a scene. Oh, I did apply some G8 hair and clothing. The fit was very good.
OH -- is there a pdf or something on the use of this new figure?
The detail maps are 8K here.
So they can be used normally? Honestly, I never seen that note in any product before...
It is not part of the bundle.
Starter essentials is free. Or do you mean Character essentials, which includes new lash maps and a mix of maps and models for the brows (plus the Anatomical Elements).
If you want it, yes - I haev no reason to believe it is going to be made available free for pre-purchasers.
Yes, well, this is how it has been done for every previous generation. It starts with the base figure which will soon be followed with commercial characters and various add-ons ranging from the head and body morph pack and other anatomical improvements to actual characters and clothing items - as well as third party converters. As far as I can recall anyway. The males usually follow the women by a half year to year so if you are looking for Michael 9 chances are it comes around next year. Admittedly with common base model we will probably see male characters earlier than that though they might be pushed further down the pipeline so there's extra male content to release at the same time. Before that it will be a collection of female characters to add into your library. At least we have some options using old content with autofit.
yeah - that's why I said I'm not happing on that train this time. it appears morph packages will be essential though.
Yes, it has nothing to do with the product itself it's just a store note.
i like that half the eyebrows are cards instead of fibres (which are generally a heavy waste for game engines).
I am told that there should be matching maps for the genitals, I have bounced back to say that there are not (according to you and the file list).
ah I see, yes they are.
The detail normal maps are the 8k element of the textures. They do the majority of the detail work in the final rendered result because they introduce the sharp micro shapes of the skin. There is very little visual benefit to other map types also being 8k, and having all maps be 8k would have introduced a massive memory usage penalty. So the focus was on the most detail return for the resources used.
Fair enough!
I know I got into Genesis bandwagon, then delayed quite a bit until I got into genesis 2. I was still building up genesis 2 library when genesis 8 came out, so I skipped genesis 3 entirely. Now I have stopped buying any genesis 8 items except the $1.99 deals while waiting for some Genesis 9 stuff to come out that actually interests me. I can still do a lot more with Gen 8 than with Gen 9 and I've spent ridiculous amounts of money on this stuff even when counting the discounts, so I'm not in a hurry.
As for Gen9, so far I got only the character essentials and now I'm trying to figure out which previous generation stuff converts well and which ones I've to replace. Personally I prefer the unimesh approach as it opens a lot more possibilities. There's tons of nice female stuff (mostly headgear) that require too much tweaking before they work even decently on guys.
Maybe they will adjust things and include the Character Essentials in the Pro bundles in the future. That would be the best of both worlds; it would give the perception of added value to the Pro Bundles while still giving those that don't want to spend that much the option of the DAZ Anatomical Elements instead of having to go elsewhere for them.
I bought Character Essentials. I installed it. I see nothing but eyes, eyebrows and eyelashes. Where's the other stuff hiding?
Did you also install the anatomical elements package that came with it? If you are looking for genitals, they should be under anatomy, I believe.
Why?
I managed to miss the part where you have to sneak up on it in your product library. Found it. Thanks!!
DAZ should tell us exactly what customers would get with the various purchase packages.
