His face shape is a much easier base to start customization with than the default masc G9, IMO--there's something about the default face that looks really distinctive to me and is hard to fully work out. I was able to get a little further updating a few of my characters; I'm actually pretty happy with a mix of Mike and Vicky's skins for this one, I just need more in the way of aging details.

That's a great character, regardless of the Generation.

LOVE the physique on this guy :) Great character.

I'm not liking the huge DAZ 3D price increases either. I am glad I taught myself how to cook. Even fast food costs more than a fancy date night restaurant anymore and those? Forget it, one month rent to eat in one of those places.

I suspect that part of the price bump on the basic character may have to do with having the HD as a part of the package. Previously the HD was an add-on that proctically doubled the price for the Character base.

Two things. Inflation and Shrinkflation. Less for more. It's happening at the grocery store too.

    That's exactly the problem.

Here in the UK they tell us inflation is 11.1%!  Who are they trying to kid? Here are a few price increases over the last 12 months:

    • Eggs +22.3%
    • Cheese +27.1%
    • Flour & cereal +28.1%
    • Butter +29.7%
    • Whole milk +32.6%
    • Oils & fats +33%
    • Sauces & condiments +33.2%
    • Pasta +34%
    • Margarine +42.1%
    • Low fat milk +47.9%
    • Electricity +65.7%
    • Gas (household heating gas, not gasoline) +128.9%

Over the same 12 month period my income has increased not at all.  So as much as I like the M9 bundles, I'm going to stick with what I've got.  And I can assure you that I'm not alone.  This is not an attack on Daz or anybody, this is just the way it is.

Oh please, don't destroy my good impression of Michael 9...! I could not find any similarity, otherwise I would not have bought him. Selenskij is just not my type.

    I totally agree with you.

I am in the UK, and it is crazy with the inflation.

I could stretch to just getting Michael 9, but that is it for a while now.

Daz prices have gone up a lot and I just can not afford to spend here as I used too.

I have him! Probably the only gen 9 figure I'll be able to get for a while, but he was a reward for finishing my exams.

Don't know if I can add much to what is in the promos, I'm still having a play.

He comes with a HD, is that the reason the gen 9 ones cost more? He only has one set of textures, no extra eyebow colors or eye colors. I've rendered his HD here without tweaks, but will note, as others have said, lighting makes a huge difference, not just intensity but temperature. His arms are a bit awkard to pose, I'd hoped that was going to be better this gen, but it's probably harder to do than I can understand. I just gave hime on of the gen 9 default poses.

Compared here to Pablo 8.1 base figure (I don't have Pablo's HD).

    I like his face textures.

This looks great! We can mix skins??? Is the a gen 9 new feature?

Thank you very much! (and @SolitarySandpiper and @AllenArt!) :D And very cool renders of Michael, it's interesting to see him next to Pablo. I've felt like G9 characters are much smaller than G8, but Mike seems bigger.

It's nothing new, just dropping maps in different channels. Most of my characters use some squirrely combination of skin textures from multiple sources. Ben here has Michael's diffuse textures in the base color slot, Vicky's diffuse textures in translucency, and Michael's normal and specular maps. Then I just messed with his transmitted and SSS colors until he looked right.

  • Weghing in on Michael 9. I think he looks great. Probably the best Michael to date. I'm another one who isn't a fan of the price structure for him though.

I bought Victoria 9 and was able to get her mega bundle for about $76 with discounts and there were 14 items in the bundle. For that price, there were things I think they skimped on with regards to textures.  I can't say I'm a fan of how Daz is splitting things up into separate products that have always been included with figures in years past. Despite that, I was looking forward to MIchael 9. I always buy products for men when I can. I know they say men don't sell as well, so I do my best to buy what I can. However, with all the discounts I can get, Michael 9 would end up costing me $20 more than Victoria did and with only 12 products in his mega bundle vs her 14. Even for me, no matter how much I want him, that isn't something I can justify after already having spent what I have on the few G9 products I have.

So I will wait. I'll make my own male characters and my own skins for those characters until Michael 9 is selling at a more affordable price. While I enjoy creating my own characters, it makes me very sad that I can't justify buying Michael 9 while he's hot off the presses as it were. I was very much looking forward to his launch.

Thanks and no thanks. I like him but he's too expensive that I can't justify it. To me maybe the only draw is the gens mat

Victoria 8 and Michael 8 with Toon Heroes mixed in.

Used the Toon Skin for both of them.

    They found each other :)

I wasn't going to buy him. Then I did. I agree, the irises are a bit too big.

(Hair cap lines because I had the wrong glasses on!)

    He is pretty :)

I think it is the T.shirt.

  • I wanted to buy him, but those droppy eyes bother me a bit. Same goes with other 8.1 male figures such as Hans. Plus the price has gone up quite a bit. :( But other than that, it is a nice figure, just like Victoria 9.

Droopy eyes are so sexy, tho wink

    Also very nice, @Kaye Kaye

  • Too expensive. I used to be a prolific purchaser of Daz stuff, but now I have to ask what real clothes I could afford for the same price as an intro bundle.

So... there was a time when I would have been rushing an article in production talking about the latest release.  Not so much anymore.  But I'm digging the new Genesis 9 and the new Michael 9.

I don't know why they chose to utterly discard some of the improvements they made in their "official" material settings (and GOD! please lose that orange transmission color). Here's my take on the V9 male skin version on Mike 9.  I'm not a huge fan of the "Oscar Isaacs" skin... it does indeed make him look old.  But some tweaks to those materials would probably help. It's time that we, as customers, come to the realization that what we say has so little impact on how the company is going to design, market, solicit, etc.  Its not like the old days where customer input mattered.  Whoops, feel free to shoot me for saying something like that. There are other forces driving the evolutions of things in the marketplace. There always have been and the excuses that were always trotted out by the company and "published artists" alike about why they did or didn't do x, y and z were just convenient enough placebos to mask those other forces at work.

Anyway, I like him.  I don't care if I can't use every damn thing I've bought before to dress him up...I WILL buy newer versions of old things if they seem worth the investment (and you KNOW that you will TOO, so just stop bitching).  Long live Mike.

    Re: Price for the bundle

It's a lot of money, but it's on par with past generation bundles. And unlike past generation bundles, many of the assets will also work on feminine characters!

Dark Assassin for M9? Also for V9 and ... heck, my corgi...

Explorer Sci-Fi outfit? Male, female, nonbinary... all of it.

    Captain outfit, Marty Mane? Both!

I mean, I'm honestly thrilled at not having to pine and hope that PAs put out a version of an outfit for the other gender, or wrestle with trying to get autofit not to do V crotches.

So, yes, it's a big chunk of change to buy in. But you get a LOT for it.

It's really not on a par with previous bundles price wise, i checked what i paid for Michael 8 pro bundle it was listed full price of $134.95 the deal i got discounted the bundle to $66.13 and included michael 5,6 & 7's pro bundles for free Michael 9 mega bundle is $270.99 discounted to $132.78 and you only get Michael 4 pro bundle free as a bonus, this is in no way comparible it is twice the price no matter which way you look at it with less bonuses, i understand inflation happens but this is rediculous for most people this is a hobby but these are not hobby prices anymore

That's a strange comment Hylas.  I have always had "child bearing hips" and I'm a dude.  We are all shaped differently!

Very cool image, @Petra! Are you suggesting that it's because the tshirt is designed to fit over a pair of pants? Or is it just something that happens to clothing when dialing in the base masculine morph on G9 (meaning he doesn't actually have larger hips - it's just the way clothes fit that makes him look like he has larger hips)?

I went ahead and dove in on the action bundle and split it up through PayPal.  Good stuff since I am a SCI FI geek.  A little render of the captaims coming back from their sucessful missions.  Captaim Michael is explaining his mission to Captain Victoria when he notices something behind her.

The pants on that outfit look weird to me in the crotchular area.

Sorry, I don't find him attractive. I rarely use males anyway but I have much more attractive characters from earlier generations. I still think M4 was the hottest base Michael.

    I agree with that.

No, that is just a small waist, I think. Although I honestly haven't checked the hip - femurs ratio in base G9 Female 100% to the base G9 Male 100% to see if there is a gender based difference like you'd expect.
