haha
I feel I am being priced out of the hobby because I am.
I lost my job when covid hit. Being somewhat north of 60 years old meant that the chances of finding another well-paying job was very low in the best of times, let alone what was happening then. In order to continue to pay my rent I had to take early retirement, which means even less money than if I had been able to hold off for four more years. Over the last couple of years I have had to eliminate or severely curtail all forms of entertainment. I have been very selective about what content I buy for Studio for several years now. It was fairly easy since most of what was in the bundles didn't interest me. The Michael 9 bundles are the first ones in a long time where I liked most of what is in them. But the prices are out of my reach. At this point I am not sure I can even justify getting the character let alone any of the content. Likely I will probably wait for the inevitable sales. Of course I may be dead by then but I digress.
As to why new content. I'm an eclectic guy. I don't have a particular genre, style, favorite character, favorite clothes, hair, etc. I like trying new things and experimenting with them. I get bored if I have to use the same things over and over again. It has nothing to do with being a zombie shopaholic.
I fully realize that I am not the only one who is in this position. There are a lot of people suffering drastic drops of disposible income. However, it is ok for us to feel bad about higher prices without being talked down to.
Alright, I had forgotten about the Daz+ coupon which brought the cost of the character down enough for me to get it. I have enough G8 stuff to pllay with so I can wait for sales on some of the content.
Victoria 9 and Michael 9 are WOW!
Ugh... I have to be in a wee economic downturn when the best ones come out. Oh well. I get to look at what you all do with them, that's fun too!
Their eyes are the best eyes of any DAZ characters so far - just my feels/opinion. Love 'em.
I'm still waiting for a new David.
I hope you're not holding your breath ;)
I'd actually like to see that too. One that looks exactly like David 5 :P
This is just plain old Michael 9 HD with autofit hair and clothing. The pose was converted from G8M with richardandtracy's free pose converter. The expression is V9 Trying to See.
Edit: I forgot to mention that I also changed his eyes to blue.
This is just one of my tests of Michael 9, in Stonemason's The Streets of Medieval. I was surprised how easy the outfit and pose worked together, along with the body. I am used to having to mess with things to get them right but didn't have to. I did have to move the set so the leaning pose would end up at the right place. Thank you Stonemason for making it so easy.
(This was done on my MacBook Pro before I saw @MelissaGT's settings, but I tried them out on a Win10 computer and really liked the results. Thank you for sharing.)
Nice work @barbult, I can relate to the pose. It is me trying to see my computer screens with my glasses on. I finally have an appointment to get my eyes checked out on Monday.
Mary
That's a very realistic squint!
G9 has a lot more "facial muscles", as it were ;)
my test with michael 9 with the king guard outfit
I guess this is as good as place as any. FFS what is the deal with all the bundles? It's either pay a higher price for stuff individually or pay a huge price for a bundle. I understand what it is that's in them. But there hasn't even been a secondary male character available yet for G9. Sheesh. I was buying pretty consistently for a long time, and then I just can't find enough of a reason why I would pay these amounts for products. "Male characters don't sell" you are right, especially if you don't release any.
There is one - https://www.daz3d.com/koo-tyson-hd-for-genesis-9
But I don't even know what to say about that guy's shoulders so *shrugs*
(Even the G9 females aside from Vicky 9 seem to have weird shoulders. What is up with G9's shoulders?)
I was so happy to see a second male character then I found out he has no anatomical element mats so I had to pass. I only buy compolete characters and IMHO if it does not have anatomical elements mats, it is not a complete model. Opinions do vwry on this but if more people felt this way, more PA's would create complete midels with A/E MATS,
I feel the same way. I stopped buying characters from Kooki99.
When I first got into Daz I used the anatomical elements but after the first few months I stopped. I don't do nudes and they're just too much of a pita to deal with putting into clothes and not having it look like a saran-wrapped banana.
I don't think I've ever once used the anatomical elements in any illustration I've ever done. YMMV
Just buy what you want. I don't need poses or a yacht or 1920s wire hairstyles. If I remove those then I can add the other outfit and the textures at a much better price than any of the bundles, especially with the punches.
Woo Hoo, looks like we got another DAZ Original Male. Casey and he has chest hair. YEAH!. Something for my Damsels in Distress to grab on to as he rescues them.
I may be the only one confused by the bundles, but the lack of a Standard and Pro bundle has thrown me for a loop.
The page for Michael 9 seems to indicate he comes with anatomical elements (both sexes). Formerly you had to buy a Pro bundle to get gens.
Are they really now included with M9? If not, which bundles include gens?
(Also, thanks for the warning about Koo omitting textures. I'll remember to avoid Koo products.)
You get the textures with Michael 9. You have to buy the Starter Essentials Expansion to get the actual anatomical element meshes.
Which is why I really hate this whole "It's not a bug, it's a feature!" attitude anyone who's had any kind of issue with Genesis 9 is greeted with. We know its a suboptimal product, but they keep trying to tell us that it isn't. PAs can't get enough of it, but I see more and more people who "got on the train" feeling buyer's remorse.
In previous generations you had to buy an expensive bundle to get the Anatomical Elements, with Genesis 9 they are part of a small, relatively cheap bundle. I fail to see how that makes the new generation an inferior product.
"Company line"
Your opinion is duly noted, and discarded.
The bundles are still expensive, just now missing a piece you gotta buy seperately.
Makes it easier to pretend the customer base is happy with whatever is released. Any time, and I mean any time, someone does not like these downgrades, there's a certain person I am definitely not criticising(as that's against the forum rules) right on cue, telling them that they're wrong.
M9+V9 i find pretty convincing, looking at them with as much history as a history of random purches over the last few months. Could ask "what took them so long", but i'll wait with that until i have made some tests to pull bits and pieces of them over to the godot engine (and render), eventually...
I was pleasantly surprised to see Michael 9 arrive so quickly. I'm impressed by all the supporting hair, clothes, etc. I appreciate DAZ's decision to offer the anatomical elements in a less expensive package. I think I saw some clothing outfits in the lower price range. I think that some people might be put-off by the very different approach to Genesis 9. I have some reservations, but am also intrigued about other things.
I decided to hold off any further purchases until after the New Year. Sometimes it's best to concentate on more "essential expenditures."
