  • So we have the Witcher equipment for Geralt/Gwenbleidd/the White Wolf, along with Kayleyss' freebies.

How about Ciri's gwyhyr (the sword that she uses)? (Or, at least the Witcher 3 model)

I did a quick check of sharecg and a couple free sites, but didn't notice the gwyhyr there. It's not technically difficult to construct since it's a sword, not a gun, but it's always easier just to download than to construct one myself...

You'd think someone would just rip the model from Witcher 3, but I guess they haven't. It's not exactly a hobby of mine, to rip game resources.

There are tools to do that, used for mod-making, but ripped content is not for redistributing.

Coincidentally, I've been working on one, will share when it's a bit better.

Nice! The gwyhyr looks close to the game model. Looks like you're on the right path!

game meshes are pretty low poly though, nice a references but not great for renders

I have W2 and this is how Geralt looks in iray, I bought Gwenblietz for my renders yes

A proverb should encapsulate a bit of folk wisdom - "Many hands make light work" or "Too many cooks spoil the broth" for example.

Ah yes, proverb - spreekwoord, saying - gezegde, a bit interchangeable in the Dutch langauge....

And yet another WiP / test image; still a long way to go for the planned scene, but bit by bit it's getting there...

Well this is the first time I've tried a sword and I really messed up the blade of Ciri's.  You can see it has lots of weird dark artifacts in rendering that indiction that either it has n-gons or the poly's are not planar.  I this case, no n-gons so it's non-planar factes which is very bad and very hard to fix unless they are aligned with the X/Y/Z planes, which these are not.  Been trying to fix it for a while but I think I need to start over on the blade. Learned a few things I did wrong, hopefully I'll be smarter on second effort.   I do think the handle and guard look okay at least.  I have to check the reference, I gave the guard a little smoothing but it might have sharper edges, that's easy to fix, just turn off the smoothing.  .

Can you post the wires? Maybe it's just a question of control edges...

Non-planar polygons can be fixed by triangulation. I suspect, however, that the issue is either quads where one vertex is in line with two others or - most likely  -simply that there are some very long, thin polygons (especially long, thin triangles).

Good advice but I decided to do a complete re-do of the blade, better geometry I hope.  Feedback welcome, of course.

Ha. Interesting. The game "Gwyhyr" is not the same as Ciri's sword, which is called a Gnomish Gwyhyr in the books. It's a specific style of blade, very rare and antique.

(And she receives it from her other pseudo father (in a Conan/Thulsa Doom sense), Leo Bonhart.)

So maybe Gwyhyr has multiple meanings in the game, or Ciri's sword is meant to be unique/not a Gwyhyr?

    I hope it goes well...

    as for feedback:

    - the blade looks a bit thick nearer to the cross-guard (could be the effect of the untextured look)

    - the grip looks a little thin at the cross-guard

    - overall, I'd say a good resemblance to the blade in The Witcher 3 game

because they too wanna use the power???? cheekywink (some places of power have no baddies nearby, but they're usual better hidden or harder to reach..... don't want things to be too easy now, would you .... ??)

Well I ended up redoing the handle after redoing the blade, also thinned up the part with the cutout design (only at the edges, the center rises still).  I don't think I'll acheive perfection but I'm getting close to saying "close enough".  How's it look, adequate for a freebie?

Why is Geralt level 1 if you start a new game in Witcher 3? Shouldn't be be fully powerful, and a legendary Witcher?

If Witchers are supposed to be so much quicker than regular humans, why can bandits move as fast as Geralt? Why can lvl 1 Geralt lose to simple (but higher level) Drowners or wild dogs?

Seriously, the game parts of the Witcher games can be seriously frustrating and anachronistic.

Yeah, sure, a high end monster should be tough to kill... but to kill it, I just grind out some kills against trash mobs or something? Meh. Kind of lame.

Looks good! To me, it's the hilt and guard... I can always slap another blade on top if I wanted to.

It's the hilt & guard that are a lot more unique, and I think you've done a rather good job with that part.

Looks good to me, too! Does the blade have a separate matzone? (Might be easier to retexture / add some custom runes/glyphs to it then, but if not, no worries......)

And don't do yourself short; you decide what is "adequate" noone else....

And a continuous effort in rendering / lighting with my skydome. Still too much noise in the render. I've to rethink my outdoor lighting strategy using my own skydome (textures).

All 4 of Kayleyss' character + one dial twisted try-out of my own; definitely no Zoltan, so I just call him Yoltan for now...... cheeky

    i can't beat the 1st chapter in witcher 2.
those 4 knights, when my geralt going up the tower, gang up on him. we go in with quen up.

we talked that dude out of fighting,
saved those people in the burning house, was good for experience points.
wish we could go in with igni power, that'll teach 'em.

Ah, yes, got all 3 of the games....

Never really played the 1st; the game-interface and I, well, we just don't see eye to eye....

Got part of the 2nd game done, much better playable for me. But then got distracted (again) by Skyrim..... and still want to play it again, but always get sidetracked now by nr.3....

Played nr.3 over and over again, and then some more... really like that one....
