Maybe it'll pick up tonight where it left off.. I have serial dreams sometimes, very odd.

    Awwww. Well, g'luck with that.

And yeah, I do live close to Arctic Circle.

She comes from the land of the ice and snow
With the midnight sun, and the hot springs flow!!!

    (bug eye face)(ice beard face)

Brrr, now I want more coffee!

    A little Led for lunch.

+3 points for catching the ripped off lyrics! (big grin)

Yeah, was listening to some Zep last night, it stuck in my head...

Your not going to get too much about Zeppelin past me, hence the name.

That was the Immigrant Song which was the first track on the third album titled Led Zeppelin III. It was an album the critics say was the worst (some say Presence was), but of course I totally disagree, Every album by Led Zeppelin was far and away above anything anyone else put out.

Okay I'll be quiet, for now.

I liked it, too. There was some very interesting stuff on that album...including the sleeve! Do you have the actual album, or just the CD? The CD loses something in translation, cover-wise. I loved a lot of the acoustic tunes on that one. And for blues, Since I've Been Lovin' You...one of my favorites!

I have the first four albums. After that they got a little weird for me, although some of the later stuff has grown on me over the years, after hearing it on WHJY so often.

There weren't too many Zep albums that I found "bad", some weren't as good as others, but uniformly I liked pretty much all of them.

Now I need to go get more Zep.. argh.. lol! Rendering to Led Zeppelin is fun! (evil grin

I also have music by a band called Dread Zeppelin, they do Zep covers - Reggae style - with an Elvis impersonator as a singer. Somehow.. it actually works! (shocked face)

Rendering to Pink Floyd is also enjoyable. : )

I used to have all the albums, but stupid me gave them away to a friend when I stopped playing the vinyls and went exclusively to digital. Yeah I know. I tried to find the guy and buy all of them back from him, but he moved somewhere in the middle of Kansas, so they are gone now. I had some expensive first pressed albums that were really thick and not the flimsy ones that started coming out.

A little weird .... whaaaaaat! I think you need to listen to them a few more times.

You can't get any more rock bluesy than that. Turn it up. The guitar solo is just beautiful.

Yes I enjoy Pink Floyd very much. One of my favorites is Echoes on the album Meddle. The only problem with Pink Floyd is I have to edit the off the wall stuff in the middle of songs like in the song Echoes. I fade it out, take out the strange parts, then fade it back in.

...got to bed late, got up late, story banging around in my head keeps me awake.

Fireworks last night. Supposed to be a big display but apparently like they ran into some kind of technical difficulty as about 8 - 10 min into the programme, everything suddenly stopped. Certainly not the finale as that usually fills the entire sky. Tech crew quickly headed to the centre of the barge (here they launch from mid river) looking at one particular array of mortars and going back & forth to the control booth for nearly fifteen minutes. Fire boat even pulled up alongside for a bit. They then turned around and headed downriver to the docks with some haste. Nothing in the local newsrag this morning.

...*sigh* another morning of blank screens, long page loads, and modem restarts. Considering letting this month's ISP subscription run out without renewing next week and looking for a new provider. This will mean lots more mornings at the hotspot to get online for a bit (as well as a hefty caffeine and biscuit tab).

Stonemason and Sugatek part of the Premiere Artists Extravaganza today. To get 50% off still means parting with between 30 - 40 in the end. Miss the old fashioned regular sales.

Weather is nice, going to be sunny and about 80° today, good day for doing my weekend errands. Going to cool off mid week but then slowly improve again. At least the rain they said we'd have Wednesday has been taken out of the forecast.

Wooly, lookout, gonna be a hottie down there next week (of the climatological, not of the curvacious kind).

...well another pointless Mariners game is about to begin (they'll probably get shellacked buy the Bronx Bombers) so sounds like my cue to hit the road to do my weekend rounds. Never received any feedback yet from either the local station or ESPN.

If they played the Royals on a regular basis I can guarantee you the Mariners would have a winning record.

...same if the Brewers only played the Cubs. But hey they (the Brewers) at least have the Sausage Race in the middle of the 6th inning when at home so there's some entertainment to look forward there even when they are getting shelled by the Cardinals or Reds.

Do you know if MLB changed some rules on airing home games? Last year and the beginning of this year I was able to watch most of the home games on the telly. The past couple of weeks or so it seems the home games are being blacked out. Not a happy camper, I love the agony of watching the Royals lose. Can't wait for the Chiefs later in the year. They are always good for disappointment.

Sometimes things are stable enough I can actually view a vid without waiting an eternity for it to buffer. The organ piece I posted last night took nearly 40 minutes to load completely so I could listen to it without any pauses.

...not sure as for one my telly blew up something like nine years ago or so and I never got another one. Usually just head to the sports pub which has all the sport subscription packages. If there's a game I want to see they usually can get it as Portland, having no home team, is not subject to any blackouts (though I wish they'd do so with the Mariners sometimes).

In the NFL, the SeaSquawks are actually a pretty decent club (even if they get help from substitute officials occasionally). That Russel kid they got from Wisconsin at QB last year was lights out. They are a lot more fun to watch, and when my Packers come out here, I can actually get tickets to the game which is only a three and a half hour train ride away (and the train station is a drop kick away from the stadium gates

My computer is too darn slow!!! (angry face)

I'm just rendering 3 primitives with complex shaders, one HDRi light dome, a raytraced shadow distant light, and a stupid textured plane for the ground and it's sssssslllooowww - looks like it could be an hour before it's done! (cry face) And the laptop is so loaded that I'm getting pauses just typing into the browser! AArrgghhhh!!!

Definitely time to save up for a quad-core i7 system if I'm going to make a serious push into Webcomics, I think. Otherwise, I'll have to learn to draw.. OH NO NOT THAT!!

Well, I do have Anime Studio Pro, so I guess I could spend a couple of years learning to draw.. yecch. (grumble face)

It's probably the transparency and reflection that's doing it.. oh well, le sigh.

*edit* The Undead Fiend was on sale.. had to get it while it was cheap, I need it for my Webcomic.. credit card now low. (frownie)

How many bounces do you have set for the raytrace? And do you actually have things to bounce off of? I've heard that if you don't, it can really increase render times. I'm not an expert on this by far.

    Dana

4 bounces, and the objects have each other to do the bouncing off of.. it shouldn't be THAT bad but given what I'm seeing, the SSS-shaded gummy translucent cone is a major CPU suck, and so is the black metalized glass torus.

I might turn it down to 2 bounces and see what happens.. I'm not at all happy with the shadows so I'll be re-rendering again anyway. Gives me something to do while I wait for dinner-time to arrive! I took a nap during the last render (lol argh)!

I also need to turn OFF hyperthreading, since there are only 2 physical cores I imagine there's a lot of context swapping for the two physical floating-point units and that can slow things up a bit. Meh. (meh face)

Try rendering at a smaller size or higher shading rate while experimenting - though I do doubt that using AO and fancy shaders is going to be practical for a web comic. Also remember that Spot render will now go to a separate window if you tell it to, so you can do a high-quality, full-size render of a limited area if you need to to check something.

Good advice. This is mainly experimentation to see what DS 4.6 is capable of, most of my Webcomic scenes won't be loaded with exotic shaders (with any luck). There will be a FEW scenes with wild materials, mainly for magick use and/or "astral plane" scenes, but those should be modestly rare and I think I can fake a lot of magick effects with some of the 2D effects stuff that I have.

It's all about learning right now, and so far I've learned to be careful with fancy materials! (ahhh face)

Dropping the ray bounces down to 2 has really sped things up, no significant impact on the render results*so far*

Stupid BIOS on this Lenovo laptop won't let me turn off hyperthreading.. ugh. Oh well, it wouldn't have made a significant differene, I'm guessing. (blech face)

I'm loving the metalized glass shaders, the SSS gummy shaders, and the Nature shaders! Definitely worth the investment. (grin) And I can finally create carpets etc. with some of my tiling texture shader presets!

Ebots have deserted me for most threads I'm subscribed to, particularly this and the Stupid threads.

I got too hot today even though the temperature was under 95F.

I was ready to go to bed at 5:30 pm.

The dog I adopted a week ago ran off twice already.

Non-complaint: I still have coffee and cigarettes.

Well, crap! My computer died this afternoon. I haven't been able to get it to start up again. I had a blue screen, and it was doing a memory dump. It was taking forever and I didn't need anything that was open saved, so I cut the power. There was a lot of dust over the inflow fans...maybe I killed it. Last time this happened it was the video card. Oh, no, it was the motherboard, but that had a known issue and was the second one. This was a different motherboard.

I'm sick of this. first my wide format Epson printer died, then my mouse, now this. And the shop I go to was already closed and I don't think they're open on Sunday. I really can't afford this. But my development stuff is on there...in fact everything important is on that computer's hard drives. If this keeps up I might give up on computers altogether.

I'm using my old laptop to get on here right now.
