I had put this in a separate thread, but it should have gone here..so here it is. via copy/paste :-P
I have finally discovered what Daz Studio is missing and it would be
relatively easy to add and would be a game changer.
I relized what it was while shopping for 3D cad mice/mouse. I asked myself "why
do I need a $150+ mouse to control camera view while using the mouse for other work ?
I can get a programable multi axis joy stick for $30
Duh !
What the next Daz Studio needs is the ability to set 'custom' hotkeys for any regularaly used
function using any recognized input. WORKS LIKE THIS - I want a programable joystick hat
switch to control camera pan, go to camera pan icon, grab PROGRAM from a short drop down menu.
(menu would have 'Program' , Default, Clear ) then it will say 'left pan' - you push the hat switch left, then it will say
right pan....an so on.
almost all functions controlled with a slider or tool should be customizable.
Do this ... you can use ANY input tool of choice to speed up your work flow...ANY.
Game Changer
Technically easy to add on next version.
Please do this.
Thank You
Try Autohotkey for out of the ordinary input customization. If it's just about viewport navigation, I can heartily recommend a SpaceNavigator from 3DConnexion. Would have gone mad a long time ago without that in Daz Studio. Can probably get one cheap from Ebay.
ahh nah need a lot more than pan...but made a good example.
will check out autohotkey...lol whatever it is
peace
..lol checked it out...looking for user friendly, that is more DIY for programmers
Pan? SpaceNavigator has all axis navigation.
I'm actually considering the Spacepilot, which also has keymapping capabilities. I just wish zBrush supported it too...
Besides all you already said, this is what I'd like to have in Daz Studio 5 (hope there aren't duplicated)
- A true DeNoise Filter
- Improved internal search engine (ex. If I search "sofa", it doesn't find all "sofas" that I have)
- Easy way to add Tags for each item (linked to the search engine)
- Anti Collision system, also very simply could be ok as long as the objects don't intersect.
- Deforming engine without complex simulation
- Link bones for different figures
I’d really like the ability to duplicate props already contained in the scene. Not instancing. Duplication.
+1
Unless I'm not understanding, this already exists. Select your node(s), then try Edit -> Duplicate -> Duplicate Node(s).

I would really love to see a UV unwrapping feature and bridge of the UV into photoshop. Currently if I want to modify textures of a clothing items, etc. I need to import the items into some other program such as Cheetah, unwrap there and then export for use in Photoshop. Would love to just be able to get UV right out of DAZ.
Wow, all these years, and never knew! Thanks greg.
My greatest wish would be:
Working physics engine without having to use animations
Like, when putting a character on a bed, I'd want the bed to react to the character put down on it and the character not to sink into the bed, but really "laying" on it.
Might be a lot of work do give properties to the different parts of a scene, but in the end it probably would be easier to build a complete scene without having to fidget around with bits and pieces to make them fit.
Don't foget that Eevee and Cycles don't have to load the scene into VRAM (as far as I know), which is where a lot of the perceived problems are with Iray Preview mode.
Is that right? In that case I'm fine with DAZ replacing Iray with Cycles and Eevee preview
...which is exactly why I don't use Iray View as I have an old GT 460 with 1 GB of VRAM. and 384 cores. Thankfully IBL Master shows me how an HDR sphere is oriented in Open GL.
Oh while on the subject of suggestions: An anti aliasing pass for 3DL progressive mode.
The number 5 would be nice. Like, the whole number, not merely a minor revision. Granted numbers are just superficial constructs, but climbing the 4.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx tree for a decade indicates stagnation.
We have completely new characters who re starting off wth a gen 7 and 8, but they have no precedent like Vicky or Michael or The Girl or Aiko or Stephanie or Freak or even Genesis who all started without a number. Yeah yeah they're built from the genesis generation they're numbered for, I get that. Doesn't make it right.
As for program changes: more right-click options on content icons, like "assign compatibility to..." so you can easily make something that works with a given figure base show up in SMart Content when Filter By Context is selected.
Nvidia HairWorks.
A Marvelous Designer-style clothing creator, a tool similar to Poser's Direct Manipulation tool, the ability to increase mesh resolution of only those polygons selected with the Geometry Editor, and expanded Primitives catalogue. Curved pipes, hi-res disc planes, and the ability to specify dimensions of created plane Primitives (because I'd really like to make a strip that's 30 feet wide and 100 feet long without having to use the Geometry Editor).
But mostly Nvidia Hairworks.
And metaballs/dynamic fluid that actually looks like fluid and not a stream of BBs.
I think a process to streamline clothing making might be a good idea
...opening more of 3DL's features and capabilities.
Once again fix the Libraries for example look at Poses there are folders named Poses scattered every where make a single Pose folder with subfolders same with environments and props there are props in enviroments and environments in props and props in the People folders
Wow, I'd love to right click in the viewport and/or scene tab on a model and assign compatibility to Genesis 8 Male. Or assign a chair to a room in a house.
Also to say like a suit jacket is American or Western (where a word like western would have meta data listing eg US, GB, FR, DE, CH, IT, ...) style 1927 - 1939 or something like that as well as meta data like fabric, colors, button types, weave, and a bunch of tailor archana that wouldn't hold much interest except to 3D modeler hobbyist trying to refine their hobby.
And the nVidia hairWorks too would be awesome.
hate to say it, all it's going to be a number change, as they update as soon as they have something new!
I'd like to see a good new version of hexagon plugged in.
Integration and play better with Carrera.
...
Oh, I'll have to differ on the stagnation part. It really depends on how the company has laid out its milestones for versions. If we look at ZBrush which has had huge innovations during the course of it's version 4 series and that it's been on 4 for several years, you have a good example of why I can't agree. There have been many changes in Studio during its version 4 run as well.
Not at all; it shows that Daz is progressively incrementing their software, but not performing any significant changes to their software's SDK.
What you're talking about is marketting hype - which I don't trust.
... Consider Windows 9. Where is it? It's called Windows 10 - ergo marketting hype.
You mean perhaps having something like a People folder, then in that a folder for each figure, and then folders within that for clothes, poses, characters etc.?
In any event that is a matter for content creation and packaging, not an application thing.
Yup, use that all the time!
Something I've already tried and crashed DAZ Studio multiple times trying to do is I want to apply a Geometry Shell and then create new surface nodes to use as clothing or what ever.
