I don't know about insensitive, but a little over the top. But then, it is October. Honestly, a couple of them look more like the person is suffering from some kind of muscular/skeletal infirmity. One of them looks a possessed person in a horror movie! Like I said, it is the Halloween month.
Dana
Gloomy and cold night here as well, the sun must be somewhere....
It just popped out here in the last 15 minutes.
Dana
Creepy but impressive.
Dana
Will either one even run on an XP system. How much RAM do you have? You may not have enough to run DS

Plenty of RAM here. :)
I must be the only person who uses Windows XP 32 bit for 3D software.
Daz Studio 4 and Poser 9 does in fact run on my computer thank you. :D Yes, I made all those renders that I made of Genesis with 2 GB of RAM. Elite skins and the EHSS do load. Mind you, I usually have only one or two characters in a scene. Well, except for that render I made for the Will Dupre contest a while back. I rendered it with the integrated Video Card that has 64 MB of VRAM. I think I only had 1.5 GB of memory for Daz Studio 3 back then.
That reminds me, I need to recreate the scene after I reinstall my generation 3 files. I found out that Kids 4 is missing too. I have the clothes and skin texture, but not the actual kids/mesh/cr2.
Windows XP 2 GB RAM 32 bit
7 year old CPU that is slower than a Pentium 4 @ 2 GHz.
6 Year old NVIDIA geforce with 64 bit 512 MB of memory. I can only run old games made before like 2008.
Frank0314, I'll let you know how much memory this scene uses after I rebuild it from scratch.

Nope, me, too!
Windows XP 32 bit
4 GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 9500 GT with 1 GB RAMIntel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00 GHz, 3.00 GHz
All hard drives are SATA - Total capacity 2.5 TB plus a 1TB USB external drive
But I only have Poser Pro 2010 (Pro version of Poser 8), not Poser 9.
As well as DS 4.6, of course.
I do have problems in DS when I have too many things in the scene...which seems to be almost every time I try to do something lately. The textures go all wonky...but they render OK.

...convinced it to hang out here for a few days as well.

...Yeah used t have that happen a lot o nteh notebook using 4+, especially when rendering a scene that was set up in 3.1.
My old system:
WinXP Media Edition 32 bit
Intel Duo Core 1.6
4G RAM
Intel integrated graphics 945GM chipset 8 - 64MB VRam, OpenGL 1.4, DirectX9
My new system:
WIn7 Premium 64 bit
Intel i7 2.8
12GB RAM
nVidia GTX640 1GB GDDR5 Open GL 4.1, DirectX11 with nVidia 3D and PhysX.
I find it interesting that the old Intel 945 could display 14 lights in OGL mode while the nVidia 640 GPU can only display 8. This is a bit of an annoying limitation as I tend to create a lot of my own light setups fore certain effects.
Plenty of RAM here. :)
...hmm 9GB in Tri Channel mode with 1GB on the GPU. ;-)
I'd love to have Windows 7. I'd load that up with 16 GB of RAM!
That texture issue happened to me in a scene I created in DS 4+.

Morning. Missed sunrise today 'cos daylight saving time kicked in while everyone was asleep :>)
...arrgh! Had another unexpected shutdown . Looked at the Application and System logs and apparently it has to do with an nVidia Update Service Daemon (daemon.exe, version 1.12.12.0). Was just sitting in idle mode when it occurred. Could this have something to do with the system looking for a connection as usually aren't daemons related to stuff like email and an other online functions?
Anyway, re-downloading and installing the update that was wiped out by the restore I did last week.
Couldn't find where to launch CHKDSK from.
A Deamon is a background process that runs without user intervention, named after Maxwell's demon that looks after the future of the second law of thermodynamics but on Windows is usually called a service. Under normal circumstances you wouldn't expect a service to crash an OS unless it sucks up 100% of available ram and looks for more or is accessing a part of the HDD that is invalid for some reason.
Not running Win 7 but have a look here
...thanks.
Odd then that such a process would chew up 12GB. Again I DL'd the nVidia update that was removed during the reset but strange that it took nearly a week for the crash to occur if it is in fact GPU related.
I've also re-installed the new GPU interface (which also was wiped out) and set it to auto-update any new driver releases (save for beta releases).
In reviewing the status of the drives while in safe mode, both were shown as "healthy" with no issues.
I'll run CHKDSK tonight before I turn in as I gather it does take some time.
my buppy is snoring. must be a peaceful nap, his paws not twitching.
Found an old Vue render of mine....
And the same terrain imported into cinema 4D and rendered from a top-view perspective, where you can see some of the flaws in it more easily. It was my first time using World Machine in combination with Vue so.... ^^;
Oh that's nice Rezca (^_^)d...
... do you recall how you went about the creation of the eroded mountains/bluffs there? ... I'm having some difficulty getting Vue to "erode" the way I like. I want largely flat mountain faces (but with horizontal crevices, and plenty of scree at the base etc), with some mild erosion along the top as you have. Also need to export it as .OBJ into DS for rendering. Any advice? (I don't have WM).
See if you can open the nVidia app and configure it to only look for updates when you request it to do so.
Dana
...did that. and had it send a reminder that updates are available.
...on a somewhat related note.
Having to do this from the workstation as Adobe Flash has crapped out and is holding both FF and my notebook hostage. It's now been over twenty minutes since I tried a restart and it finally made it to the "logging off"screen. Wouldn't even let me shut down FF from the processes tab in Task Manager.
Even if I could afford it these folks will never get a dime from me for any of their software when they push this unreliable rubbish on us and then make necessary for doing just about every online function.
Been staring at the "logging off" screen for over five minutes now. I'd normally do a hard shutdown and restart, but it is an old system.
Ahhh let's see... It's been so long D:
Um... I know I used the 'Supernoi MDK' http://www.cornucopia3d.com/purchase.php?item_id=9846 for the mesa and cracks, and used Strata filters on it... But the bulk of the erosion was done in Wold Machine (Especially the thermal erosion). Hardly any weathering or eroding was done in Vue.
...
Okay I found the file, thankfully I still had a copy of it before I went through all the World Machine stuff.
So I had a standard Terrain Fractal and blended it with a Supernoi metanode, with 70% emphasis on the latter. I then fed that into a Stratification filter and then exported the terrain into World Machine. What I did in there I don't know, but I can try and find out later o3o
The Vector Seed thing and Multiply by a Number node/s I left untouched.
The scree at the bottom and mild weathering at the top can really only be done in World Machine (Basic, Free, or whatever) - or at least done well. I think it's possible in Vue, but the results won't look as natural. In there you can define where the erosion takes place, how "long" it erodes for, and so on. What areas of the terrain or what elevations it affects... Vue has some terrain erosion effects but they're applied globally as far as I know.
Keep Calm and Render... (~_~).
Hmmm... thanks for that :). At least now I know it's not just my ineptitude @ the Vue terrain editing features that's giving me the results I don't want <(^_^). Don't spend any more time digging up WM stuff (as I don't have the tool)... although... if it makes the scree generation easier... *going to have to think hard about this - I'm sort of "tapped out" atm with last month's DAZ sales, and now keeping up with this month's PC stuff X)*</p>
(in Vue I'm having to make a secondary "scree" terrain object and use a highly "triangular" cross-section brush (like this -> "/\") to pile up the scree with a pointed angle at the top, hidden inside the primary "cliffs" terrain object... doesn't look so good, and is rather tedious >_<).</p>
Okay, going to have to go think hard about that MDK, or just Supernoi... (heh... there was a character in a manga I read a long time ago called "Noi"... `.`)... thanks for the screencaps (^_^)n.

^^
I spent hours playing with the World Machine trial because it was so much fun seeing it erode my terrains, and so well too! I know it can do other stuff as well but... I didn't care :D I just wanted to see those mountains fade into dust ^^ Very fun.
Even the most basic of filters can produce such fun results.
I'd give the WM free edition a try. The export maps are capped at 512 pixels, hardly high resolution but still useable :)
Supernoi is the only MDK add-on I've been able to use well. The material ones... Well one look at that mesa should show how well I've been using those xD Seriously! Terrain materials are like a secret and forbidden art in the Vue community - everyone knows how to use them, except newcomers - and those that know how to use them, don't want newcomers to learn how. I know they're sensitive to both material AND terrain scale, but either they look like big mottled splotches, or they look like this. *sigh*
Keep Calm and Render... (~_~).
...I would but the wokrstation crashed again while I was on the forums there. I'm beginning to lose patience with this as I don't know what the frag is going on here. I Look at the messages in the event viewer, but none of them make seem to any sense any more as to what is causing this or what I need to do. ON the screen after the last crash, there was something mentioned about the clock, but like the error and information statements on the event viewer, it was all "geek" to me.
In the application logs, the last information statement before the crash mentions something about the description for Event ID 1903 from source HHCTRL cannot be found. This also shows up multiple times.
Before that there are these following messages:
--The disk defragmenter completed an analysis (??I never ran defrag).
--The Desktop window Manager Was unable to start because the desktop was disabled (?)
--The Winlogon Notification subscriber was unavailable to handle a notification event (x2)
I am at a total loss as to what the heck has been going on the last couple weeks now. I've added no new hardware, made no major changes to software since I installed the new display a couple months ago.
Had to do the hard restart on the notebook just so I could get back online. This has not been a very good day
HHCTRL is the Windows HTML Help control. There is a support article about this message here.
Dana
(>_<)... it certainly sounds decidedly chaotic.</p>
btw my last "HHCTRL" crash was back in 12/Jul/2013... it's the "HTML Help ActiveX control" that was failing... not sure where you might have pulled up some compiled help file from though.
The Disk defragmenter can be run in the background - to help with performance of your HDs. Normally it's run on demand though (afaik). *checking through my own logs here, comparing with your msgs*
EDIT: oops, cross-posted with Dana <(^_^).</p>
...the link to the HHCTRL message is for XP. The crash which occurred after the information message regarding it happened on my WIn7 system. I'm wondering if it doesn't have to do with the 5 updates that were wiped out after the restore. Again, they do not show up as installed even thought they are in the downloaded updates list. Like i mentioned when I went to MS to re-download and install one of them there were three choices for each and I'm not sure which one I need.
On the notebook it was clearly the Flash player that bollixed the whole thing up as a dialogue popped up on the screen about an error it encountered before it froze FF.
Apologies if I made things confusing.
Have the workstation up and an going though diagnostics when the screen went black momentarily because the nVidia driver (which I just updated today had) stopped, then recovered. This now leaves me wondering if it isn't something with the GPU drivers that is causing the conflict. and hence, the unplanned shutdowns. I thought that was why these needed to be updated.
I feel like I'm stumbling around in the dark with this.
On the topic of random access memory: Funny how I rarely use 2 GB of PC 3200 DDR memory. But that is just me.
