..yeah, the memory stick issue was one. I'll try reseating the GPU after I shut the system down. Hopefully it is something that simple again.

Either way if you commonly shut off your machine at night, especially if you do so shortly after completing a render, you might want to try re-seating the video card.

Any time you allow the machine to heat and cool you get expansion/contraction which can cause things to work loose. You might want to double check the seating of other components while you're in there.

people shut off their computer at night? i shut mine of after lunch.

here was my routine last Thursday:

    finish eating lunch
turn off computer to put new hard drive in.
turn on computer and clone old data to new drive.
turn off computer and disconnect old drive.
turn on computer and test new drive.
    eat dinner
notice that DVD drive isn't working
    turn off computer
reseat IDE and Molex power connector to DVD drive
    turn on computer
try to boot from recovery partition on new drive
    computer won't boot correctly
    Turn off computer

    go to bed

use new computer without recovery partition until Saturday
    Saturday:
    plug in old hard drive
    run chkdsk from new drive
restart computer and restore windows to old drive
restart computer, boot from old drive and create recovery CDs.
    turn off computer
    eat lunch
    remove old drive from computer
turn on computer - no power
power connector to mother board is loose
reseat power connector to mother board
    turn on computer
    CPU fan is loud
    turn off computer
    clean CPU fan
    turn on computer
power connect tor mother board is loose again
reseat power connector to mother board
    turn on computer
copy some old runtime files from external drive
I still need to copy around 25 GB worth of stuff for Daz Studio and Poser 9.
    eat dinner

The issue is it's worked fine until this bluescreen crap started last week.

Whether the card came in a pre-built system or you bought it and put it in yourself, there is still a warranty on the items! It seems to me that you haven't had this new system very long.

Yes, re-seating the video card, and other cards as well, is a good idea.

I bought my current computer just over a year ago and except for power outages it's never been turned off. I don't even let it go into hibernation since neither Windows or Mac hibernation can be trusted to not corrupt your drive.

When I first got out of the Navy I worked for one of the major computer manufacturers and I've had power supply engineers say to never turn the system off as startup is the most stressful time for a power supply. I've had board engineers tell me not to power down since heating and cooling could actually cause issues with the solder joints.

Of course I've had other engineers tell me exactly the opposite so no matter what you do you're probably right :)

I only turn mine off if there's a power outage or when I go on vacation. And I've had pretty good luck with them really. I don't update very often. When I do, I go all in, as much as I can afford to at the time. As things are now, the next time I can afford to do up a whole new system, there will probably be a Core i10 with 6 or 8 cores in it. What I'm waiting for is the crystal data storage. I don't know what they're waiting for. It may be permanent storage, but it would be virtually endless in capacity. I read about them years ago. Maybe only the rich have them already. Could be a big secret. :coolsmirk:

A laser would write and then read data from the crystal. When it seems the crystal is at capacity, the laser would change its angle just a hair, and have a clean slate (plane) to write to. The change in angle would be measured in a fraction of a degree, from what I remember. When I read this, I remembered the sci-fi of the early 70s...Star Trek, Buck Rogers, using crystals for data storage. The sci-fi writers are the actual innovators and inventors...the scientists and engineers simply see an idea and try to make it work.

It's been nearly a year and a half. You would think by now with all the tickets and complaints they have received from the community on issues like this, that it would have been fixed by now.

Clearing cache and cookies doesn't fix it either.

They need to bring a group of professionals, sit down with them tell them everything they want this bleedin software to do, and let the experts take care of matters and get this site working right once and for all.

That was happening to me yesterday. When I changed the display per page # to 60, it fixed itself. No idea why but it seemed to be caching to that page (logged out) when displaying 15 per page. Even a hard refresh wasn't helping.

quick test render of Kid 4 girl on an asteroid.

    Memory usage:
    Daz Studio 3 / 3Delight: ~290 MB
Video Card / openGL preview: ~ 90 MB

I might run out of video memory before I run out of system memory. Eeek.

Daz Studio spent almost four minutes rendering Renee hair and the shadows.

That all depends on Who you have build the system. This monster is, well a monster, but the company I used will BUILD any PC to your specks. And you get a Free 1 year coverage on all parts. And the Win 7 Pro I had installed is JUST Win 7, no clog ware included. The monster also has a 1400 watt supply that Covers all my fans and liquid cooling needs plus some. Sure it cost's more for a build but I'm happy as a clam with this thing.

OK, just happened again. This time a CTL-F5 worked to fix it. Must be some kind of onsite caching problem.

I actually had that concept in an old sci-fi RPG campaign I GM 'd. It used a three dimensional holographic crystal array. This was back in the 1980s.

...glad that course I took in abstract matrix algebra, actually had some use.
