Hey Frank0314, Poser 9 runs on my 32 bit Windows XP computer with 2 GB of RAM. I'm not sure if I want to render some fancy scenes in Poser 9 and firefly though. I should install an extra 1 GB module in the empty PC3200 slot.

I'm really surprised Poser runs on that

Why not, P9 is only 32 bit program afaik. I was using Bryce on a similar system until a year ago. I still preferred XP, but wanted to go 64 bit.

Poser is a RAM horder which is why I'm surprised it will run. I bet you can't do much else if you have Poser open

Shoot, I can do a lot of stuff when I'm running Poser. Just not on the computer. :)

WinKey? Services? Is this on a version newer than XP? I'd like to see what's popping up this tray dialog lately. It tells me I should update this or that. That's the thing that told me I need to update Adobe Air...even though I don't have Adobe Air. When I clicked on the update link, Norton came up with a warning...malicious stuff. I'd like to find it and get rid of it. I never had it before, so it's something that recently happened. Maybe this services thingy could help me.

    Dana

The XP equivalent would be Start button (that's the Windows key, WinKey), click Run, type services.msc and click the OK (or Run, I can't recall) button.

Thanks. Didn't find anything suspicious, but I"m not sure if I would know. Everything that I wondered about, I checked properties and most were part of the WINNT system services. I am curious why this just started recently, though. Oh, well.

I might load Victoria 4 and an elite skin into Poser 9 to see how much memory Poser will use. I already have Stephanie 4 installed. One interesting note about Poser 9 is that it doesn't use much Video RAM for OpenGL. *scratches head* Even Vue 7 uses like 90 MB for a simple landscape.

oh, and when I said Firefly above, I meant Firefly and raytracing.

ok, i'm gong to play with GiMP now. bye

I've been out of work for several years and money is tight. I'd love to have moved up to Windows 7. Vista was a horror show that I didn't need t be a part of. Windows 8...meh, I haven't seen many people say good things about it, except in the commercials. And even then...those school girls dancing with the surface tablets...they all looked angry. That's not something that inspired me to want something. :smirk:

I run Poser Pro 2010 on my XP machine. I have 4Gigs of RAM, though...even though XP only sees 3.3 of them. I haven't done anything fancy though. In fact, I've only done one render in it. Been busy with other things.

I know what you mean about money being tight. I'm disabled due to a car accident and can't work outside the house which is why I make content. Makeing content is very stressful. You never know when you are going to make your next $. You couldn't pay me to use Win 8. I held onto XP until Win7 came out.

Well, early next year, April I think, MS will stop supporting XP. So I have to do something before then. I have a Core2Duo in here, I'd love to be able to use the 64 bit capabilities. But that would also mean buying more RAM. I've been itching to get 64 bit and more RAM. Just afraid to spend the money. But soon it won't be an option.

It's actually just a cropped section of it ^^

What I want to get done is a side and front view of the head in, and another dynamic/action pose. Maybe running or climbing.
Maybe a part on the feet/legs too, since they're supposed to be good runners and jumpers (And thus padded feets to absorb the impacts when landing)

What I'm most concerned with is if the anatomy "works" here - especially the arms and legs D:
The skull a little bit... Based the general shape off a spinosaur, and the rest of the functionality off an anaconda + gulper eel :P

I've never had a name brand box, I've always had custom boxes made up for my by my friend...and did some customizing myself. I'm on my own now for my next scratch build...my friend passed away last year.

Like I said, money is tight, so that won't happen for a while. They'll probably have a 6 or 8 core CPU by the time I can afford to do that. So little steps is all I could do with the system I have at the moment. I might be able to do some extra RAM, not even sure about that, though.

Is this just for drawing, or do you plan to model it in 3D? Cool either way!

I think with a 32bit system you can get up to 4GB of RAM. That should help you out quite a bit. I've only ever owned 2 off the shelf PC's. Only because I couldn't afford to build one. I have a monster now so I shouldn't need a new one for several years.

I've been using Win8 since launch and I find it much more responsive than Win7 was on the same machine. Most of the hate I've seen for Win8 seems to revolve around the Metro UI which I can kind of understand. The only time I see that UI is when I hit the Windows Key and start typing to search for a program - funnily enough it's usually calculator, I should probably put an icon on the desktop but I'm so used to typing WinKey->calc->enter that I'd probably forget about the icon in a week.

Still, these days my computer is a tool and not a toy so if something is working fine for me I wouldn't change it either. Like I said I think Win8 is more responsive than Win7 but that's just my impression. I don't really see enough of a difference between the 2 to upgrade from 7 to 8 for most people - I only did it because I was beta testing some software just before the release of 8 and someone had to make sure it was going to work.

You don't have to use it. Just go to the Desktop.

    Nice wallpaper!

Does it multi-task? I read something that implied that it actually only does one thing at a time. Maybe that's if you're using the Metro UI, though. This was a technical review, too. They said that it should actually be called Window.

Here, too. But I went outside for a couple of hours anyway, to mow the lawn. And suck up the fallen leaves. With the mower, I'm not dumb enough to fall for that leaf blower thing anymore. I use the mower and get two jobs done at one time.
