That's probably why we have managed to keep it running so long. The first Challenge was in Jan 2008. so we have been going for almost 6 years.
...again I want to take this time to thank everyone for their comments and support. I had no intention of leaving 3d when I first started this as it is one of the only creative pursuits I have left. As I mentioned I just felt a bit frustrated feling I put a lot of work into scenes for nothinge
Reworked the scene and rendering now before resubmitting. Yeah probably won't make the cut but why not give it thold college try? As I went back into the project I decided to approach it more as a means to experiment with and apply some of the suggestions I received. Lots of kitbashing, shader & texture manipulation, and now I feel I have a better handle on things that I felt stymied me for so long.
DOF will take a bit more time to work with as I'd like to keep it subtle and use it to enhance and support the style I'm after. Discovered couple threads that have some good tutorials which help explain how to determine what stays in focus and what doesn't so that will be my next study project.
All of you are right. Watching the render as it progresses, it makes me feel good, even if it doesn't win or place. Actually ended up having quite a bit of fun with it in the process (hope the upstairs neighbours don't think I'm daft).
Glad to see you're being positive about this again ^^
It's a progress and ups and downs are part of it.
Looking forward seeing your upcoming renders :D
...I need something to feel better about things to as my UC benefits run out after this week.
The job scene where I live is not all that good unless you are young and/or have advanced degrees/credentials. Our region is lagging behind the rest of the nation in recovery. Having severe arthritis really limits the options as I cannot do any physically intensive work.
My art right now is my only solace.

I enjoy checking out the RRRR (Random runtime roulette renders) challenges, again because the main intent is the participation, not the prizes. And it's really fun watching the ingenuity, when the random "item pulls" requires the artist to think outside the box to put together a render. Good stuff. Doing is Learning.

...last one of those I entered was when Taozen's Library Manager still worked. Using the DIM to build the list I get a lot of duplicate entries for PS/DS formats in the list which I have to manually weed out even using the filters. Also not about to go page by page (38 total) in the Product Library copying and pasting into Excel.
Don't even have the DIM set up on the notebook as I don't so any 3D work on it anymore.

..ugh software throwing me to the bloody account page again.
Sorry if I was overly harsh before, Kyoto Kid, but I am glad you are feeling more enthused about 3D art again. I've always enjoyed your work and I'm glad I will be able to continue to enjoy it.
...no harm done and no offense taken. just got to one of those points where I felt I wasn't going anywhere with this after all these years.
Other RL stuff (like I mentioned above) has also been weighing on me as well which wasn't helping the morale very much.
BTW seems Taozen's still supporting the Account Manager so DL'd the latest version (good until the 31st).
Go to your download filters and uncheck Dson Importer for Poser before exporting the CSV. That will at least weed out all of the PoserCFs for you.
...even with that there were still duplicate entries because of the Legacy installers and the content that had two separate downloads (one for the mesh and another for for the textures - think those were "DS CF" or something like that).
However as mentioned, I discovered that Taozen's continuing to keep the Account Manager available.
Also, export the file to .csv and then import that into Excel. If you had DIM sorted alphabetically then you could just go down through the list, find the duplicates and delete the row.
What I do is then add a column for an item # and fill that with a series, this is what I use with the random number generator.
...did that and now have the updated list I need.
Also appended my Rendo/RDNA/Sparkyworld/VanishingPoint content spreadsheet and now have a full comprehensive list of all purchased content.
Did have to go through and remove bundles that also had the individual content listed, software, utilities, and other non-content listings (like PC memberships, GCs, and the DIM), but that was done with global searches.
With the DIM there were just too many in such a long list to go through. Took enough time to deal with the above.
Ran my first 4 picks, and now figuring out what to do to...er...with them (thankfully have a little time left in this one).
