    Time for some anime flavor.
And the Dalek is the first officer on that ship. :3

I swapped the captain's chair for the tall back and made the command area one step up - so their is a clear view of the screen.

WOW Tim I have to say this is a truly amazing piece of work you are doing. You have really captured the whole cross over feel of the TOS and TNG bridges. I only have one question and if it has been asked and I missed it I am sorry to reask, what is that white stripe behind the captains chair that that runs into the panel behind it?

Thanks! That's left over shading because I haven't fully textures the floors of the raised area yet.

That was a truly classic bridge! Very deserving a dreadnought bridge.

    Uniforms

What are your feelings about the various generations of Star Fleet uniforms? What do you think about them as far as function, style and looks?

Generally, everyone is serving on board a climate controlled ship. Do you think short sleeves are appropriate? McCoy wore a short sleeved tunic often. The ladies uniform for the JJ trek has them. ST:TMP had them as an option for males and females.

The post TMP TOS Star Trek movies had the heavy jacket and turtleneck uniforms, which I liked the style of, but functionally I thought it was a bit much. Are the ships that chilly?

I saw this picture online that is intended to be a bridge between the TOS style and TMP style. I think it's got some nice looks.

Personally I would think that the ship would have a controlled climate in areas like the bridge, hallways, chowhall, common areas which would allow short sleeves as a standard uniform while allowing those that wish to wear long sleeves if they like. it is hard for me to believe that they could build a ship like that but couldn't give it a 70 -72 degree climate inside.

We've seen pictures from the International Space Station of astronauts in short sleeves. Why not on a starship?

With a big thank you to Patience55, the Officers' Lounge is now done. I'll take this weekend to get the zip file put together and hopefully have this beast posted on Monday.

RDuda, that 'crossgen' Engineering is pretty sweet! Redfern may be right - I've got a vacation coming up in a couple weeks, which I'm spending at home (had to take the days or lose them - I feel like Sheldon!), and I may just have to use them to get off my ass and finish my own Engineering ;).

In the meantime, I was trying to watch "Into Darkness" (please don't let me provoke an off-topic discussion with that comment ;) ), and had a sudden urge to try a modified base for my TOS Bridge set; I'm not a fan of the ship in the new films (or, really, of the films themselves), but I do like the large window/screen - to me, it's actually a logical concept that they should've had since the beginning, and I realize that their budgets wouldn't have allowed it, but we don't have that limitation ;).

Having gotten this far, I think I'm going to designate this as the prototype for the Crossbow-class bridge ;). I'm also thinking about borrowing the design of the workstation overhead screens to create a set of viewscreens over the main window/screen, in the ceiling inset - again, to me, it's a logical approach to giving the captain access to needed information, and IMHO, that's what all the screens around the bridge have always been, since they're in a fairly-inconvenient position for anyone seated in front of them, but perfect for the captain to see over the seated operators' heads. So it makes additional sense that the space directly in front of the captain could stand to have a cluster of high-priority monitors that could display tactical or operational data while the captain is also facing and utilizing the main viewer.

There were a number of episodes where Bones (McCoy) wore a short sleeve version of the tunic. And Kirk wore a short sleeve tunic in The Slow Motion Picture.

Personally, I like the look of the WOK uniforms, but I thought they made the cast look fat where they were so bulky. That's one reason, when I moved Nova Trek into the movie-era, I put Jan in the turttle neck and vest most of the time.

I believe I saw in one of the tech manuals that the ship's captain had discretion on what uniform his/her crew uses. Hence the differences in those you can use in the ST online game. I never saw male members wearing shorts or kilts (except for Scotty).

I liked the formality of the WOK costumes, but I agree about the bulk. Though I do wish the color palette had more variety, like a blue jacket for the Sciences and maybe a rust or brown for Engineering.

They did have some color variations. I remember seeing Scotty and Uhura with the red turttle necks. I think McCoy and Spock had a light teal- Kirk wore the white. Of course Scotty also had that -looked like- leather vest he wore.

Yup, the turtlenecks were the division colors.

That's intresting. I've got a story that falls inbetween the movie-era and NG. If it's okay with you, I may try that. :-)

I used Jedman/Jed Hirsch's textures from the freebie list on the first page, from ShareCG. I can't distribute them, because they really aren't mine. I went into Photoshop and used the 'replace color' tool and changed the hue and saturation a bit.

Another angle. Because the screen is now also a window, I figured there was no longer enough depth around the forward bridge to have that forward door on the port side (what could be behind it but space? ;)), so instead I've put in an emergency escape hatch that would open over a ladder to the deck below, and tried to consider how it could be lit to always be obvious.

If the shields go down and the enemy puts a phaser blast or a torpedo through that window, the crew won't have time to reach it.
