I need to learn not to be so outraged at the cost of grocery shopping. Been a long time since a # of butter was 2 bux. No wonder no one baking cookies this year. Yikes. Tomatoes yikes spinach yikes. Ice cream quarts down to tbls size

That never stopped me... most of the time I can't think of anything worthy of being translated from my jumbled thoughts into the squiggly lines people's eyeballs interpret as words... but for some reason I write anyway.
Sometimes it's about some nonsense I've decided is going to be relayed in text, other times it's because my finger and brain are mad at each other and my fingers start typing random stuff to make my brain look stupid.
Mostly it's just nonsense observations like "why the hell is freezer cardboard stronger than impervium?"... seriously, if the stormtrooper's armor was made out of old TV dinner and fudgesicle boxes, the friggin' Ewoks would have been doomed... Have you ever tried to tear that stuff? One layer is like trying to rip a phonebox in half... Or "Why the hell do they alway have to place a giant price tag/bar code sticker over the part of the bottle or box's instructions where it says "!Warning! Important: Do Not Ever...." and only leave bits exposed that read "Extremely Explo... Painful Death... To Smithereens..." leaving you wondering if you should still buy the bottle wood glue and just wing it or pass on it and not possibly rip a hole in the fabric of space if you drop it.
Ugh... I gotta go... my brain just noticed my fingers are typing random nonsense again and my brain wants to get them to turn on each other in revenge...

66... Thats nothing, I knew a turtle that was way older than that and he still worked in the petting zoo... he was senile as hell, even for a turtle, but his shell looked amazing for his age... I think he was 90 or something... how do they tell how old a turtle is...? do they cut them in half and count the rings, or do they just rely on the turtle's word... turtles are such big liars.
Maybe if you are feeling bummed out, you should see if you can get a temp job at a petting zoo like the turtle did... being pet seems to make bunnies real calm (when was the last time you heard of a bunny going on a bloody rampage?)... Goats seem to enjoy it to... most animal except for tigers seem to enjoy it... I half suspect the reason the turtle has been around so long is all the attention and petting he gets... he's so mellow.
It could also be all the pot he smokes... did you know most turtles are huge stoners?
Really... Turtles are actually the fastest land animals after the Rocket Iguana and the Jet Hamster...
Lots of people like petting assorted animals too... and it seems to calm them down and balance their serotonin levels... Serotonin is chemical nerve cells produce when goats and bunnies are around and it is also found in the digestive system when one is digesting goats and bunnies...but remember to not go around eating the goats and bunnies at the petting zoo, or they will ask you to leave.
There is a popular belief that Serotonin gives one feelings of well being and happiness, but actually it's functions are very complex and involve big sciencey words like "Enterochromaffin cells", "Decarboxylation" and "Synaptogenesis", none of which anybody really cares about especially if there are bunnies and goats around needing petting.
So anyway... if you are bored and feeling up to it, maybe collect some cardboard boxes and make a nice turtle costume, go down to the petting zoo and see if you can apply for a job there... Turtles make a mint and they don't pay taxes either, so it's a total win-win there.
I tried it back in the 80s when there was a petting zoo across from the supermodel college in NYC... and it worked out great for a while... supermodels really love turtles, but apparently so do senior citizens and when they opened up the senior center the old folks got out of control and scared off the supermodels and I had to quit.
Those were fun times... and all the lettuce I could eat too...

Yeah, real ingredients for real cookies ain't cheap no more. I paid $7 for one of those tiny 1-ounce bottles of real, pure vanilla extract, not the artificial stuff.
I don't need butter for my one type of cookies that I bake but I always have real butter (unsalted) available for special things like waffles, pancakes, on steaks, and in things that get baked. However, I have adapted to "Olivio" for some things (i.e. toasted cheese sandwiches or toast). Yeah, it's hydroginated olive oil but it's probably less harmful than real butter. And I figure, what the heck, I've lived a long enough and good enough life, do I need to punish myself by avoiding things that I like that might hurt me in the long run, just when I've finally learned to appreciate the good things and I haven't much run left? This is the advantage of old age, when you know that the light at the end of the tunnel is a train, your priorities change.
All that being said, I do try to eat in moderation and avoid the things that my body throws a fit about now. I miss ice cream.
And fatty foods. And jalapeno peppers piled on my sub sandwich.
And eating anything after 6:00 PM.
...yeah, it sort of is. I get the front seat on the bus at only half the normal fare and any "youngun's" sitting there need to get up to let me sit down. Our local grocery market chain has those "over 55" Tuesday discounts. A couple of the second hand shops in town also have senior discounts on their already low prices. Then there are the discounts for the Symphony and classical performances as well. So yeah, it makes a bit of a difference.
Sadly, I don't go to the cinema much anymore as the few second run houses we have (where I could get in for 2$ - 3$) all went first run as well and charge the same admission as the rest of the first run cinemas do, which even the senior discount doesn't make affordable. Also, most of what I see coming out really doesn't interest me a;; that much, too many "shoot em ups", "stupid" attempts at comedy, remakes/sequels, and too much "CG-Eye Candy" (even in non Sci-Fi/Fantasy films) for my tastes (I tend to get people around me annoyed when I spot the inconsistencies).
..oh then there's also adverts which have invaded the big screen. There is just something about paying 8$ to sit through ten to fifteen minutes of adverts even before the previews for coming attractions.
Yeah there's a bit of Andy Rooney as well as Statler and Waldorf in me. I think I earned it.

...hmm, from what I have been reading, not sure if I want lettuce as my primary diet these days. Besides I still like burgers and pizza (though the latter for some odd reason does seem to make sense, however I'd likely have to take up martial arts first). Also being one of those "old folks", don't want to accidentally scare the supermodels off as llamas in particular really like having supermodels around and you don't want to get a llama angry as they spit just like a camel does, and if the petting zoo feeds them habanero peppers, that could be dangerous.

...ice creme, one vice I just will not give up. I love my French Vanilla and Espresso Madness (both made by a local dairy here). I still use butter myself, never could get into the oleomargarine thing which is basically a block of Crisco™ with artificial yellow colouring. Oh, and for flapjacks waffles it has to be 100% pure maple syrup. Yeah, more expensive than a bottle of HFCS with brown food colouring and artificial maple flavour in it, but I don't "drown" my hotcakes like some do (that only results in a good portion of it being washed down the sink) so a 12 oz. bottle does go a long way. I even put some in my hot rolled oats.
My fave ice cream is made with real Cornish cream and real milk, weil the favourite one I can buy from the supermarkets that do delivery. Real favourite is Welsh-Italian Ice cream made with Welsh cream and Welsh mik and Italian flair. Always Welsh Butter If I run out of butter I will eat a cheese sandwich witout any spread rather than even think about using a substitute and will use cream cheese to make a ham sandwich, or a smoked salmon one.
..yeah we get Welsh and Irish butter as well as European triple creme here but way too expensive because it is imported.
For my homemade Cheesy Mac I use a bit of sour creme for a bit thicker variety (helps the cheese stick to the pasta better).
Ah smoked salmon, inexpensive here but I can't have it due to an allergy. However that reminds me, I need to get some herring in wine sauce and cheese as well as a bottle of Oporto or Amontillado for one of the few family holiday traditions I still observe (both for Christmas and New Year's eve). Have the holiday candles ready for lighting at midnight on both Eves and yesterday was gifted a small aluminum tree and decorations by a couple friends (been wanting one for some time). Will send a picture later.
...bugger, was supposed to be partly sunny today (at least by yesterday's forecast), instead rain and mid 40s.
Meanwhile it was a near record breaking day in Milwaukee with 53° (record for the day is 55°).
In Fairbanks though, -26° with a forecast low this coming Saturday morning of -40°.
In contrast it will be a balmy 71 in Melbourne AU with a heatwave in the upper 90 to 100° for the coming weekend.
When you get moved to "SS Retirement" does that mean you have to relocate to Argentina?

An actual complaint: The Daz Crab does not have a texture option for cooked!!! You know the first human who ate one of those things had to be really hungry and really brave!

..well even though the weather didn't quite cooperate, I still had a good B'Day. At the local pub I frequent, the barkeep made my favourite drink for my birthday freebie, a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster (they use one of the best recipes what includes Absinthe). The best part was she made itin a full pint glass, soI was well ""entertained" for most of the evening All in all, very good night.

They're persistent. I used to actually thumb through the magazine they send until I realized that it was depressing. The lead article is always some famous industrialist or movie star who throws in your face how much more comfortable they are in their retirement than you are. Well, duh!!!
I think the biggest advantage I've taken from AARP is the 5% discount at Outback Steakhouse restaurants, enough savings for 1/4 of the tip.
Oh, I thank them for fighting the government bureaucracy to delay the death of Social Security, hopefully until I don't need it anymore. But, no, I'm not interested in the lifestyle of aging actors, and 'round-the-world trips for retired industrialists.
I should write for them... It'd be a lot less boring, make only slightly less sense and probably only piss off a small random collection of their readers.
I had a few ideas for articles that might be more in line with the struggles many more seniors face... "10 delicious recipes for deceased pets and roadkill", "Are you senile yet?" (If the article makes sense, then yes... yes, you are), "Make your own homemade prescription medicines using household chemicals and moldy cheese" and "Save thousands of dollars by making your own coffin and learning self-embalming"...
That magazine seems to be a little "out of touch" sometimes with a lot of articles leaning towards very upper middle class... or maybe it's just that any time I've ever picked up the magazine those are the articles I've found.

I actually can't complain about the weather here as it's going to be fairly warm for the next couple days... today it'll be around 10°C (283° K).

Non-complaint: Another chapter in the on-going saga of updating/upgrading my ancient computers. My oldest desktop finally has joined the club with 8GB of RAM. Yay! Months ago I started the process of trying to find ancient DDR2 memory in 4GB sticks so that I could populate the motherboard's two memory slots to achieve maximum supported RAM. Unfortunately, impediments like it being ancient state-of-the-art technology, correspondingly rare, understandbly expensive, frustratingly picky about compatability with various brands of motherboards, unaffordable reality of returning wrong product back to China, and most recently very very slow postal delivery, the product finally received today is a major brand (Samsung),
is exactly the same brand & speed as the original memory,
is surprisingly affordable (compared to other sources),
and was shipped from Boca Raton, Florida instead of the end of the Earth,
although it took just as long as shipping from China.
And most importantly, it worked on first try. Yay! Enough RAM to prevent excessive memory swapping.
And with it's new SSD installed a few weeks ago, it's a nice zippy machine. It may outlast me.

I don't know where the town of "A-1" is located, but I do know there is a town/area named "Eighty-Four". Twenty-five miles southwest of Pittsburgh. It is apparently where the franchise lumber stores called "84" originated.
