Im seeing tons of examples, but these are pretty useless imo, without the discussion; this thread was supposed to be both.
I see the thread also as a sort of reference image collection, because in a visually oriented medium an image is usually the starting point of a discussion about how things look.
I do not have much to contribute but I enjoy seeing the examples. The lighting setups used here are often better than the product promos that sometimes tend to use "dramatic lighting" which often obscures the details, making a vendor's characters look like they have the same shape and skin tone.
I've found the examples extremely useful because they've made me go back and look at characters I've "skipped" because the product promos made me think these characters were just like other ones I already own, but were in fact very different.
It's a good point. I actually use G8F default at times; the skin is very nice actually.
It's also worth considering that G3F (yes G3) textures is used other places, so is always surprising where they turn up: Karen7, for example, which is a nice texture (I just said that
), is actually the base for the default G8F.
I always tweak textures from characters I buy; I do it because I'm looking at what details are hidden, as there are always some that can be brought out more. Lighting in renders can do the same, but then it depends on the render, whereas it can be nice to have them more (and less) obvious.
We can certainly share suggestions for improving textures too, but like Markus said, this thread also works well as a repository for comparable examples of textures to help people make more informed purchases. You can clearly see that some textures have more detail than others in many of these examples, and there's a least a few that I have added to my wishlist because I was able to see how their level of detail compares to that of others.
Nicstt, I did start a G3F example thread but I can't find a link to it right now. I'll track it down in a bit.
For those who want to discuss improvements, how about your recommendations for best mouth and teeth texture elements? From my experience, official DAZ textures seem to have the best teeth when they use a slight bit of translucency, but many still need a little darkening or yellowing to look realistic. The mouth and gums have never really looked all that realistic to me, but you so rarely see them that it's never been a priority to improve them.

I think my Daz Runtime is just about empty. I may have a couple more to do, but @markusmatern has the Emrys characters covered. I will do some characters that I picked up from Renderosity, one group will show how similar the characters are. What has been great so far, as noted is establishing a baseline for the various G8F figures that can be compared and seeing any similarities.
I am following your other thread V8 (and others) texture improvement discussion with great interest as there have been posts showing the "how to" behind the work. As a newbie, I look to those who have much more experience with Daz Studio and their knowledge sharing around the workflow and building on those insights to improve my art.
I purchased many of these figures before I stumbled on Sickleyield's products (SY Beautiful Faces Genesis 8 Female, People of Earth: Faces of Europe Genesis 8 Female, People of the Earth: Faces of Asia for Genesis 8 Female, and People of Earth: Faces of Africa Genesis 8 Female) which are great for applying to the G8F base, then using textures from the other characters to create new figures.

Thank you all again for these new examples. Yes, I hope people will share any specific settings that they think work well for multiple textures or light setups, but it can really vary and I'm not sure if there are any real secrets to be learned. Maybe top coat settings for wet skin would be useful though.
The only particularly good teeth examples I've found so far are Victoria 8 (left) and Ellithia 8. Most others are alright, but these two are quite a bit more realistic in my opinion. 3000 iterations, same lighting as usual, no adjustments.

For those that are interested, here are Freja's characters that are available at Renderosity. I hope loading these does not violate the forum TOS.
The characters are Alice, Carolyn, Dhalia and Ellie, all for Genesis 8 Female. They are very similar and the differences are subtle.
Next set of Freja's characters from Rendo. These are Farrah, Lizette, Paris and Rebecka for Genesis 8 female.
My last set of Freja's characters I picked up at Rendo. These are Rowena, Ryleigh and Tianna all for Genesis 8 female.
These are Anagord's characters over at Rendo that I have. They are Mira, Stephana and Silvia for Genesis 8 female.
This is really nice. What I would suggest if you have the time is to adapt the first post to include all the ladies in this thread(eventually with links to the post where they are present).
For now it is only 4 pages and it's ok to watch them all but as the thread grows it becomes harder to identify a special lady if you already have her on a wishlist or she appears in an offer and you want to see how she looks.
Yes, those teeth do look good.
There are some characters for G8F that use def G3F as a base; I suspect because G3F default is also a merchant resource if you own the particular item that contains those textures. If that isn't the case, the textures share navel for example. :)
Whilst I use G3 and G8 textures all the time on G8, most of the time I don't notice as they are interchangable, I was merely pointing out that appearing more than once is possible.
I'm saying it not because I object to it happening, but as an indication that it's what is done with the textures, and how the shader brings out the particular details present - in addition to what the PA adds.
Yeah I thought about putting links to all of the characters in this thread, but it would be a full-time job the way Markus and Sisyphus are posting examples. ;) When they run out of textures, I'll try to get to it.
Sorry nicstt, I thought I had a G3F thread but it was a G3/8M one. I have no idea where I originally posted my G3F examples, but here they are:

No worries.
I'm happy enough watching what appears, and I imagine Markus and Sisyphus will be a while yet, there are still just one or two to go.
