I strongly advise looking at the Iray Essentials Volume 1 & 2

These add a lot of options to your g8 base characters - you can swap around shader settings like using Darius shaders on Sanjar or Aiko's on Sakura and then there is options for maps you already have, more options for Zelara and Nyx, honestly theres oodles of content tucked away in there for skins you already probably have. There is 941 material presets in one and 500 in the other. Absolutely worth the buy and extends the use of all these great quality skins.

As for the topic of this thread , I've gotten some great results trying differrent mapless shaders on non daz skins until I got a look I liked. It can really change up the look of a character, especially if they get washed out in certain lighting.
